    Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic

    Role Context

    Operational Management

    • Assess breakdowns and the associated risks of moving the equipment ensuring it is safe to move and if it can be moved before repairs take place.
    • Assemble, install, test and maintain Earthmoving equipment across the mine by using the tools best suited to conduct the repairs to return the equipment to optimal functionality within the allocated timeframes.
    • Conduct services and take oil samples ensuring that they are taken for review and that all results are considered before recommending a way forward, as per internal procedures.
    • Monitor and enforce the health and safety requirements of the area for the allocated area of responsibility by identifying any non-compliance and ensure the team works as safely as possible.
    • Conduct services and repairs for the planned maintenance function, as it relates to the Earthmoving equipment function, by inspecting the various elements of the machine and ensuring that they perform optimally as needed.
    • Proactively conduct component change outs on the various machines and forms of equipment by tracking their kilometre hours and scheduling maintenance ahead of time.
    • Troubleshoot and diagnosis equipment faults on the Earthmoving equipment and machinery, identifying the cause of the issue and taking the most cost-effective approach for repairs and returning the equipment to optimal status within the agreed and allocated downtime.
    • Inspect and diagnose malfunctioning equipment, apparatus and components using test equipment and the requisite tools to identify defects, hazards and breakdown causes and implement the relevant corrective actions such as repairs or request replacements.
    • Implement the planned maintenance schedule by driving the team to adhere to the agreed timelines and established targets there by contributing towards the efficiency and production of the operation of the mine.
    • Conduct root cause analysis on the various types of Earthmoving equipment and machinery to determine breakdown causes or malfunctioning equipment and recommend and implement repairs or replacements as needed.
    • Complete job cards and daily reports based on the various incidents (planned or unplanned), daily to keep the business and relevant supervisor/s informed of the progress of repairs and replacements of machinery, equipment, and its parts to inform appropriate planning.
    • Continuously develop and enhance the skillset based on the requirements of the mine and its associated Earthmoving equipment by continuously upskilling oneself on the equipment and typical issues faced to ensure the turnaround time on repairs and services is maintained and improved.

    Resource Management

    • Determine resource needs within own area of responsibility to achieve individual role outcomes.
    • Request required assets and resources for the fulfilment of work duties to attain quality work outputs.
    • Use assets and resources optimally within own area of responsibility.
    • Contribute to the optimisation of asset care principles and management by safely applying and ensuring adherence to safety protocols and utilisation of assets.
    • Determine the need for critical spares and general spares and escalate to relevant stakeholder for sourcing, repairs, and replacement as per set COPs.
    • Maintain comprehensive records of the equipment that has been maintained and/or repaired by writing detailed reports summarising the causes and associated solutions to the equipment, its problem and its downtime in order to provide insights into the relevant trends.

    People Management

    • Upskill and train new joiners by familiarising them with TM’s operating procedures and TM’s environment as well as sharing industry knowledge and best practice with them to create a pipeline of expertise and skill within the function.
    • Engage with stakeholders across the mine, as required to accomplish the maintenance requirements of the Earthmoving equipment function.

    Compliance, Risk and Safety

    • Conduct regular safety inspections, provide relevant and necessary training to ensure all employees adhere to safety guidelines all the time.

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum of a Grade 12 (NQF 4) OR N2 with associated Trade Certificate
    • Trade Certificate

    Job specific experience:

    • 2-3 years post-certification experience in the mining environment having worked on Earthmoving equipment.
    • Liebherr experience and knowledge on the CAT 6050 face shovel

    Electrical Foreman

    Role Context

    Operational Management

    • Set and oversee the implementation of electrical maintenance and operational plans for the achievement of production targets by collaborating with the Plant Engineer in line with company goals.
    • Monitor daily electrical operations in line with production requirements, evaluate progress and make operational adjustments as needed to ensure production quotas and quality standards are met or exceeded.
    • Coordinate electrical maintenance services in the plant and control processes within defined scope and ensure adherence to the production and maintenance plans to achieve process stability and efficiency.
    • Monitor and control daily process plans, including proper electrical maintenance and inspection activities, monitoring production parameters, task allocation to artisans and inspecting finished projects and report operation delays and process inefficiencies to minimise bottlenecks and plant lock up. 
    • Oversee the maintenance and repair of all electrical equipment and the solving of all technical related problems within the mining plant.
    • Liaise with the plant engineer and maintenance team to schedule and perform regular maintenance activities to keep equipment running efficiently and minimise downtime during shifts.
    • Implement and maintain a planned inspection schedule for critical electrical equipment to proactively detect and identify potential equipment failure to ensure preventative action is taken.
    • Prepare reports on maintenance activities and safety procedures and by keeping accurate records of equipment inspections, repairs and maintenance activities to ensure compliance and facilitate future maintenance planning.
    • Collaborate with plant Engineer to develop and implement process improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce costs and enhance overall plant performance.
    • Assign tasks, set work objectives and schedules for shifts to ensure adequate resourcing and that employees are performing their duties effectively and in compliance with safety procedures.
    • Generate skills matrix for each artisan and put controls in place to bridge the gap were there are shortfalls and recommend improvement interventions. 

    Resource Management

    • Provide input into required changes in resources (financial or non-financial) to enable the achievement of team and/or own objectives.
    • Determine resource needs of the team and/or own area of work to achieve business outcomes.
    • Request and allocate required assets and/or resources for the fulfilment of work objectives to guarantee quality outputs.
    • Monitor the use of assets and resources within the team and own area of responsibility, to ensure assets and resources are consistently and appropriately utilised and managed.
    • Provide staff with day-to-day direction and tasks aligned with Departmental procedures, to enable the usage of less resources more efficiently.
    • Manage team and support services including standby resources during breakdowns by communicating failures/breakdowns in process to limit downtime while adhering to safety standards.
    • Coordinate and manage the activities of the plant staff including equipment operators, maintenance technicians and general labourers in area of accountability to ensure resource management and adequate staffing for delivery.

     Stakeholder Relations

    • Communicate with all relevant Departments on issues of the area of speciality. Liaise across the relevant Departments by engaging with the appropriate stakeholders to ensure all stakeholders remain abreast of Departmental objectives, any potential derailers are appropriately managed and duplication of work is avoided.
    • Communicate with internal and/or external stakeholders, where required, to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships.

    Compliance, Risk and Safety

    • Develop an appropriate plant specific Risk Management Policy and appropriate Procedures and Standards (Codes of Practice)
    • Develop and implement a proactive approach to all safety protocols by creating awareness of hazards and behaviour in order to enforce compliance to minimise risk of accidents and injuries within the plant.
    • Conduct regular safety inspections, provide relevant and necessary training to ensure all employees adhere to safety guidelines all the time.
    • Lead the interdepartmental collaboration and coordination efforts to execute drills and escape procedures in case of emergencies and operational requirements i.e. blasting to mitigate risks and fatalities.
    • Enforce compliance with all applicable regulations, codes and standards related to foundry operations including environmental regulations to ensure the plant remains fully compliant to industry standards.

    People Management

    • Create and maintain a conducive work environment by appropriately applying Human Resources policies and procedures to ensure optimum performance is realised for the benefit of the plant, by extension, the organisation.
    • Coach, mentor and train teams and recommend adequate training and skills development initiatives to improve employee performance.
    • Manage a high-performance culture for the plant by providing critical and timely feedback (both positive and critical), enabling individuals to improve and work as effectively as possible to meet operational goals.
    • Implement clear people management and supervisory tactics and institute Planned Task Observations (PTO) to display level of competency of the team in line with TM’s people management strategies.
    • Lead the identification and development of talent by ensuring adequate staffing, providing regular mentoring, coaching and training in order to ensure a competent and capable workforce in line with TM’s people strategies.

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • N4 Certificate in Electrical Engineering

    Certifications:

    • Engineering Trade Certificate Electrical or Millwright (NQF 5)
    • Engineering Foreman Certificate advantageous

    Job specific experience:

    • 3 – 5 years’ experience in a mining environment in the Engineering processing Environment

    Senior Artisan

    Role Context

    Operational Management

    • Allocate Auto-Electrical and Mechanical maintenance and operational plans for the achievement of production targets by conducting Auto-Electrical and Mechanical hardware repairs, maintenance and replacements as required to drive the auto-electrical and Mechanical operational requirements.
    • Allocate, oversee, and conduct routine maintenance, installations, and repairs by engaging with the respective functions to ensure that all Auto-Electrical and Mechanical needs are tended to, and auto-electrical and Mechanical equipment remains functional.
    • Conduct extensive asset care management across the allocated areas of the mine by routinely maintaining, repairing, and installing new components to ensure that all assets across the mine remain in optimal condition.
    • Develop and drive adherence to the planned inspection schedule for critical auto-electrical equipment to proactively detect and identify potential auto-electrical and Mechanical equipment failure to ensure preventative action is taken.
    • Allocate and review job cards on maintenance activities and safety procedures by keeping accurate records of auto-electrical and Mechanical equipment inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities to ensure compliance and facilitate future maintenance planning.
    • Conduct continuous risk assessments throughout the day by proactively identifying and reporting identified risks within the areas of operation and collaborating with the various departments to support and maintain a safe working environment.
    • Coordinate and oversee the assembly, installation, testing, and maintenance of the auto-electrical and Mechanical equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools to maintain operational requirements and reach daily targets.
    • Inspect Earth Moving Equipment auto electrical and Mechanical components and systems to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with the relevant standards.
    • Allocate and review the quality of the regular inspections completed by the Auto-Electricians and Mechanics by conducting a secondary inspection on the quality of work being completed ensuring that all standards and practices are being adhered to.

    • Provide staff with day-to-day direction and tasks aligned with Departmental procedures, to enable the usage of less resources more efficiently.

    • Minimum of 3 years post-apprenticeship experience
    • Liebherr experience and knowledge on the CAT 6050  face shovel
