    Head of Clinical Unit- Internal Medicine (Endocrinology)

    Requirements :

    • Appropriate qualifications that allow registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine or in a recognized Sub-Specialist. Registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine or in a recognized Sub-Speciality.

    Duties :

    • As a head of unit, the candidate will be responsible for the clinical management of general medical patients and sub specialist medicine responsibilities. The incumbent will be required to lead operational and academic ward rounds including post-intake, follow-up and grand rounds.
    • As the most senior doctor in the unit, the incumbent will be required to supervise registrars, medical officers, intern doctors and students in patient care and the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Other clinical duties will include managing patients at OPD, managing patients attending the Subspeciality or Speciality Ward Consultations within a relevant Sub-Speciality.
    • The desired candidate will be required to set an appropriate example of an exemplary medical practitioner and serve as a role model and clinical mentor to junior doctors and associated clinical staff.
    • The HOU will also require active participation in the management aspects of the hospital, equipment meetings, procurement and labour issues relevant to the department, active involvement in cluster hospital outreach and development.     Duties :

    • The incumbent will be responsible for the clinical management of critically ill patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Helen Joseph Hospital. Responsibilities include: Leading daily ICU ward rounds and multidisciplinary case discussions. Management of patients requiring advanced organ support including ventilation, vasopressor therapy, renal replacement therapy and invasive monitoring. Providing specialist consultation for critically ill patients referred from other departments including Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine and Surgical disciplines. Participation in ICU admission triage and escalation of care decisions. Supervision of advanced procedures including central venous access, arterial line insertion, airway management and critical care interventions.
    • As a senior clinician, the incumbent will: Supervise registrars, medical officers, interns and students in critical care management. Participate in after-hours ICU coverage as part of the consultant rotation. Contribute to morbidity and mortality reviews, clinical governance and patient safety initiatives. The candidate will be expected to serve as a clinical leader, mentor and role model for junior doctors and ICU staff.
    • Subspeciality Development: The incumbent will assist in: Coordination and strengthening of Critical Care services at Helen Joseph Hospital. Development of referral pathways for critically ill patients within the cluster hospitals. Implementation of ICU protocols and best-practice guidelines. Collaboration with surgical, medical and emergency departments in the management of critically ill patients.
    • Academic: Participation in the academic programme of the University of the Witwatersrand Department of Internal Medicine / Critical Care platform, including: Participation in academic ward rounds and departmental meetings. Contribution to research and publication within the department. Supervision of registrar and MMed research projects.
    • The incumbent is expected to complete his Certification in Critical Care within 4 years of taking up the post.     Dental Specialist / Lecturer Grade 1-3 (One Year Contract)- Periodontics and Oral Medicine

    Requirements :

    • BChD/BDS or equivalent qualification. Current registration with the HPCSA as a dentist in the Independent Practice category. A minimum of two years of clinical experience as a general dental practitioner (Independent Practice).

    Dental Specialist / Lecturer Grade 1-3 (One Year Contract)- Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Biology

    Requirements :

    • BChD or BDS qualification. Current and valid registration with the HPCSA as a dentist in the category: Independent Practice, with a minimum two-years’ experience post community service.
    • Completed Postgraduate Diploma in Maxillofacial Radiology, or M.Sc. in Maxillofacial Radiology. Experience in teaching and learning of undergraduate students with specific clinical supervision in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology.
    • The incumbent must have experience in intraoral and extraoral radiology acquisitions and report writing with specific knowledge and experience CBCT.
    • The following will serve as an added advantage: Candidates with a completed Postgraduate Diploma in Maxillofacial Radiology should demonstrate current registration for a master's in Maxillofacial Radiology. Any demonstrated experience in research will be an added advantage.

    Duties :

    • Diagnostic Radiography in Oral and Dental Hospital to ensure quality service delivery, radiation protection and dose reduction. Assessing and acquisition of images for patients in the Diagnostic Imaging unit, and other clinical duties as per the need of the institution.
    • Supervision and assessment of undergraduate students in the Diagnostic Imaging unit.
    • Attendance and participation in all departmental meetings including seminars and journal discussions as per the arrangements of the department. Lecturing and clinical supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students as needed in the department.
    • Fulfil duties independently and apply innovative approaches in day-to day work and challenges. Shortlisted candidates will be subjected to a proficiency test within the discipline.
