    Structural Designer

    Summary:

    • Our Johannesburg office is seeking a skilled Designer to join the Structural team. The role involves the production of concrete and structural steel 3D models and 2D drawings across projects of varying scale and complexity, from concept through to construction. You will be working directly with other designers, technologists, engineers, and engagement managers to successfully deliver diverse projects, buildings, and facilities
    • The Structural Designer is required to apply specialized and/or advanced engineering principles at a conceptual level.

    As the successful candidate, you will: (duties)

    • Production of 3D models and 2D drawings in accordance with project requirements, based on design direction provided by the Senior Layout Designer/s and Structural Engineers.
    • Perform conceptual layout work
    • Develop design details
    • Check drawings and models prior to release
    • Ensure coordination with designers and engineers of other disciplines
    • Perform clash detection of models with other discipline models
    • In conjunction with engineering staff, prepare design concepts for both internal and client review
    • In conjunction with engineering staff, produce detailed engineering drawings and documentation for identified and approved concepts/projects
    • Participation in formal engineering review processes
    • Verify onsite condition and dimensions relating to existing facilities

    You bring to the role: (qualifications & experience)

    • Engineering diploma (N Dip) or equivalent draughting industry qualification (civil/structural engineering)
    • Experience in reinforced concrete and/or structural steelwork 3D modelling and draughting work
    • Experience within a multidisciplinary EPCM environment
    • Ability to model in a 3D environmene
    • Experience with heavy industrial structures and their foundations
    • Knowledge of industry or regulatory standards, regulations and codes pertinent to the design and systems related to the project
    • Understanding of other discipline requirements
    • Proficient in the use of MicroStation is preferred, or similar 3D modelling engineering platforms
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills
    • Good safety awareness

    Project Procurement Manager

    • Hatch is currently seeking Project Procurement Manager to join our team in the Greenstone  Hill Office, Johannesburg South Africa.
    • The Project Procurement Manager is involved in a project from the proposal/study (FEL3) phase up to the project close-out and handover of the project execution phase. The major interfaces are with project management, engineering, project controls and construction management to ensure a cross functional implementation of materials management and contracts management processes.
    • The Project Procurement Manager directs, controls and co-ordinates the procurement of engineering/ construction services, equipment and materials for the project obtaining optimum performances with regards to cost, technical requirements and quality to satisfy the project budget and schedule. The Procurement Manager is the custodian of the entire procurement cycle which includes logistics and materials management and contracts management at the home and/or site offices.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for drafting/coordinating/compiling Materials Management and Contracts Management strategies and plans as well as the Procurement section of the Project Execution Plan (PEP)
    • Responsible for implementing all procurement processes and procedures including forms and templates to be used on the project
    • Responsible for the entire project procurement lifecycle from the procurement package definition stage to the closeout stage
    • Provides supervision, training and assistance to all procurement team members across Contracting, Purchasing, Expediting, Vendor Quality Surveillance, Logistics and Site Materials Control disciplines; promotes and maintains a healthy and harmonious work environment
    • Provides inputs for Project reporting as required
    • Verifies and ensures integrity of the entire procurement lifecycle, validates that all activities are carried out in accordance with the relevant procedures, maintains sound business practices in an ethical manner
    • Ensures compliance to and maintenance of the procurement filing system (electronic and hardcopy)
    • Understands and manages the procurement and project strategies in order to provide the best outcomes in terms of scope, cost and time
    • Interfaces with the client to ensure that objectives are achieved, potential problems are identified and preventive or corrective actions are taken
    • Performs continuous self-audits to ensure compliance with guidelines and procedures
    • Conducts regular interval meetings with team members to discuss status quo, identifies and resolves all issues within the team
    • Acts as primary communication resource within the project regarding procurement issues
    • Foresees potential problems, slippage or delays and pro-actively implements corrective measures to resolve the issues or mitigates the impact thereof
    • Provides reporting and updates to the client, the Project Manager and the Procurement Hub Lead on a regular basis
    • Plans, controls and monitors procurement activities in accordance with the approved project schedule
    • Ensures functional direction on all procurement issues, including site construction contract issues, during contract administration and closeout
    • Performs resource planning, which includes man-hour allocation and management
    • Ensures efficient and correct usage of Procurement Management Systems and Document Management Systems
    • Where required, performs site visits to oversee the procurement/commercial activities or resolve issues arising on the project; maintains a presence both on site and in home/execution office. Essential Qualifications and Experience:
    • Extensive experience on an EPCM project environment with capital projects, specifically in a management role
    • Related training in Contracts/Legal as well as general project and management related training
    • Experience with drafting of commercial terms and conditions and an understanding of accompanying legal implications
    • Proficient negotiation skills
    • Excellent understanding of procurement processes which include both materials and contracts management and corporate governance principles.
    • Knowledge and understanding of quality systems, environmental, health and safety regulations, expediting techniques and Incoterms applications
    • Experience and understanding of contracting and purchasing strategies
    • Project management knowledge with proven managerial skills
    • Experience in dispute resolution techniques and their applications
    • Prior experience in the administration of construction/service contracts and major equipment purchase orders
    • Experience in using, developing and implementing procurement reporting tools.

    Preferred:

    • An appropriate tertiary qualification will be highly regarded
    • EPCM experience on major projects
    • Experience in African countries will be an advantage
    • Mining and metals experience
    • Highly motivated to deliver major projects

    Senior Buyer

    • The Senior Buyer is involved from the planning/initiation phase of projects until close-out of all  purchasing packages and relates to the acquisition of materials and equipment in support of  engineering and construction management. Purchasing interfaces primarily with Engineering and  aligns its activities with Expediting, Vendor Quality Surveillance, Logistics, Site Materials Control,  Project Controls and Construction.  
    • The Senior Buyer is experienced in the discipline of materials/equipment acquisition including  the purchase of tagged, bulk and engineered materials for projects and carries out the “Formation and Award” as well as “Administration and close-out” work processes of all purchase orders (local and international) in accordance with the project requirements. The Senior Buyer is the owner of the purchasing process from the planning/initiation stage to close-out. 

    Key Responsbilities:

    • Responsible for implementing purchasing procedures and templates/documents to be used on the project 
    • Responsible for managing the purchasing team towards the following objectives and deliverables: 
    • Performs purchasing activities:
    • Preparation of Bidder’s List for approval 
    • Liaison with Package Coordinator and other project disciplines to obtain and verify Technical bid documents to ensure that specification are compatible commercial  documentation to form a cohesive Bid document
    • Preparation of Bid documents, advise on contractual terms and conditions and issuing of Invitation to Bid to the approved Bidders 
    • Manage the bidding process including technical queries from Bidders and issuance of addenda
    • Prepares and issue purchase orders 
    • Liaises or participates in discussion with the Client to establish General terms and condition suitable for the project 
    • Facilitate Purchase order kick off meetings and handover to expediting
    • Ensure proper control and methodology of contractual change notice to Purchase Order
    • Revision, claims and/or backcharges in accordance with appropriate terms and 
    • conditions
    • Ensures proper process of Progress Payment validation process in support to Accounting for payment approval
    • Manages bonds/guarantees
    • Ensures that all purchase orders are closed out in accordance with project specific procedures/requirements
    • Performs award and administration of purchase orders in accordance with applicable legislation relating to corporation, taxation, custom duties and importation laws
    • General Managerial duties
    • Provide supervision, training and assistance of team members
    • Allocates assignments (packages) and tasks to purchasing agents and purchasing administrators
    • Where mandated, participates in Package kick-off meetings (e.g. for major and/or critical equipment packages) 
    • Conducts regular team meetings to discuss status quo and any issues within the group
    • Provides individual support to purchasing agents to resolve major problematic issues (performance, cost, etc.) arising from the vendor’s end
    • Liaises with procurement manager to discuss performance appraisals/issues
    • Provides updates and reporting to Project Procurement Manager/Materials Manager on procurement performance metrics such as cost, negotiated savings, low cost country  sourcing and schedule
    • Facilitates communication within project
    • Assists the procurement Manager/Materials Manager with resource planning, specifically with regards to staffing purchasing personnel
    • Conducts meetings with project team to ensure awards are made in time, when needed.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    Essential

    • Extensive experience in an EPCM project environment on capital projects, specifically purchasing of project material (tagged, engineered and bulk)
    • Procurement related training as well as general supervisory and management related training
    • Experience and contractual knowledge base with regards to the drafting of commercial terms and conditions
    • Highly proficient negotiation skills
    • Experience with applicable legislation relating to corporation, taxation, custom duties and importation laws
    • Excellent knowledge and experience with Incoterms as well as practical knowledge of freight forwarding and clearance requirements and processes and appropriate legislation
    • Experience with an excellent understanding of purchasing/contracting strategies – drafting and execution thereafter
    • Knowledge and experience with material expediting, vendor quality surveillance, logistics and site material control
    • Proven managerial skills.  Excellent understanding of procurement processes and corporate governance principles Experience with materials management and related activities

    Preferred:

    • Appropriate tertiary qualification 
    • International project experience is an asset 
    • Has a firm grasp on both current and historic market intelligence with regards to relevant equipment/materials and commodities.
