    Associate Professor/ Professor (Director): Tebello Nyokong Insitute for Nanotechnology Innovation

    • All academics are responsible for the creation and dissemination of new knowledge. Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management, and/or leadership duties at the research entity, departmental, faculty, and/or university level and contribute to their profession.
    • Professors and Associate Professors provide academic leadership and contribute to the institution's governance. This leadership contribution of the Professor should be evidenced at the research entity, departmental, Faculty and institutional levels. 

    The Requirements

    Associate Professor

    • At least a PhD in Chemistry specialising in physical or materials chemistry.
    • Research supervision of Masters and PhD degrees to completion and evidence of hosting postdoctoral fellows is required.
    • Evidence of a national and emerging international profile as a leading scientist on the applications of nanoscience in at least four of the specified INI research areas:
      Cancer diagnosis and treatment, surface science and characterisation, electrochemical sensor design and development, porphyrinoid chemistry, energy materials, non-linear optical materials, sensitive optical sensors, water purification and treatment, and drug resistance microorganisms.
    • A strong track record of publications in appropriate scholarly and accredited journals based in fields of INI strategic interest.
    • A proven strong record of leading large multi- or inter-disciplinary research groups and managing research projects in INI strategic research areas. Proven track record in fundraising concerning research projects and a proven ability to
      work effectively with funder budgets. Strong rapport of interactions with INI stakeholders and government institutions.
    • Evidence of multi or inter-disciplinary research practice and working across multiple disciplines within the sciences.
    • A strong record of working with policymakers and practitioners in the nanotechnology sector.
    • A strong record of securing external funding from funding agencies must show evidence of attracting large grants over the past three to five years.
    • Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles.

    Professor

    • At least a PhD in Chemistry specialising in physical or materials chemistry.

    • Evidence of a national AND an established international profile as a leading nanoscience scientist, with specialisation in at least four of the specified INI research areas: cancer diagnosis and treatment, surface science and characterisation, electrochemical sensor design and development, porphyrinoid chemistry, energy materials, non-linear optical materials, sensitive optical sensors, water purification and treatment, drug resistance microorganisms.

    Assistant to Director: Residential Operations

    Main Objectives

    • To work closely with the Director to provide effective and efficient personal administrative, project, and organisational support, which will enable the Director to effectively serve the University in the execution of responsibilities, duties, and tasks and to meet strategic objectives as well as to provide administrative and front-line service to the Office of the Director, Residential Operations Managers and other groups requiring services of the Residential Operations Division.

    Requirements

     A Bachelors Degree/Diploma (NQF level 7) plus 4 years relevant experience where such experience includes:

    • At least 1 year should be spent working with an individual at a senior level (e.g., HoDs, Directors, Hall Wardens, or a middle manager).
    • At least 3 years of previous administrative experience within a computerised environment where planning, coordinating, and executing administrative processes and where the job required a high degree of multi-tasking.
    • Previous experience in assisting with the planning, coordination, and executing of projects or events.
    • Administrative experience within a university and/or large-scale operational/service-orientated environment will be an advantage.
    • Previous experience handling queries (staff, members of the public, etc.).

    Media Production Technology Specialist

    Main Objectives

    • To support the media production activities of the Students and Staff of the School of Journalism and Media Studies through the provision of services relating to the technical operation of studios and field equipment and through the co-ordination of technical logistics relating to production events in collaboration with Academic and Technical Staff as required.

    The Requirements

    • A diploma (NQF Level 6) in Journalism (with a broadcast specialisation) or Broadcast fields or equivalent and approximately 4 years relevant experience (such experience may include practical experience gained whilst studying) where such experience includes: -
    • The operation of multi-camera studios and digital video switching units and / or mixing desks and digital audio production equipment.
    • Proficient operation of portable video and audio equipment for the purposes of media production
    • Experience in media production in a computerised environment, including workflow and file management.
    • Experience in the use of DSLR cameras for still and video media production
    • Familiarity with Creative Cloud or equivalent software-based editing packages.
    • Experience in the administration of computer-based media catalogues or digital asset managementsoftware would be an advantage

    Readvertising: Psychologist II

    Main Objectives

    • The main objective of this post is to provide comprehensive career counselling services to students and prospective students.  In addition, the incumbent is responsible for the running of the Career Centre as well as assisting with the supervision and training of intern psychologists at the Counselling Centre as delegated by the Head of the Counselling Centre. 

    The Requirements

    • Qualified and registered counselling psychologist (Masters’ degree) with at least 3 year’s relevant work experience over and above their internship.
    • Active registration with HPCSA.
    • Individuals who have supervised interns will be at an advantage.

    Relevant experience includes: -

    • Any work with adolescents or individuals with respect to Career Guidance. The greater the diversity of this experience the better for example, experience in one-on-one counselling, group counselling, educational work and Psychometric Services
    • Experience in dealing with Secondary School Learners will be an advantage as well as any experience with students at a Tertiary level
