Main Responsibilities

• Social media management and facilitation to increase brand awareness and brand loyalty and drive Pageviews and traffic to The Citizen’s website.
• Effectively leverage social media platforms to reach a wider audience and enhance the overall online presence of The Citizen.
• Increasing audience engagement: Engage with the audience through social media platforms to build a loyal following and increase interaction with news content.
• Work with the editorial and advertising teams to generate content for social media platforms.
• Monitor news/trends/competitors.
• Ensure that social media platforms stay up to date with relevant, goal driven content.
• Analyse and compile reports to monitor and improve the performance of all social media channels.
• Use analytics tools to determine what works and what doesn’t on our social media pages.
• Adhere to algorithm specifications / requirements on the social media platforms.
• Identify and use the best keywords in posts to increase awareness of The Citizen’s stories.
• Track trends and news across social media platforms to discover articles, videos, topics etc. that could be used on the Citizen.co.za.
• Post live reports, updates, videos, photos on social media channels as events are taking place.
• Community management

• Grow the print advertising revenue.
• Analyse and identify business solutions for The Citizen and sell it to relevant advertisers.
• Service and maintain good customer relationships with client direct and advertising agencies.
• Create tailored solutions, which meet the client’s advertising objectives.
• Identify and actively target new business.

Requirements

• Minimum 4 years’ print advertising/media sales experience on advertising agency level and client direct level.
• Combination of previous print and digital selling experience.
• Market knowledge and insights.
• Ability to establish and maintain solid business relationships with direct clients.
• Sales or marketing diploma (IMM/AAA) an advantage.
• Previous experience within the media industry.
• Must be an absolute go-getter.
• Highly goal oriented and target driven.
• Innovative and strategic thinker.

Main Responsibilities:

• Identify and write high quality articles on a number of business and financial interests for a wide audience.
• Ensure that content remains relevant to The Citizen’s differing audiences.
• Constantly track performance of written articles and make improvements where necessary.
• Plan, commission and execute multimedia stories with a focus on business, financial interests, personal finance, etc.
• Be the authority on all business, economic and financial developments in South Africa.
• For example, can explain coherently how the repo rate is determined and the role inflation plays.
• Contribute story ideas to other editorial sections. Work with relevant editors to generate business-orientated content for these sections.  
• Utilise analytics to maximise all stories and articles published on citizen.co.za.
• Adhere to Google algorithm requirements and write with SEO and Google search in mind.
• Study and adhere to The Citizen and citizen.co.za’s Voice and Style Guide.

Core Competencies:

Knowledge/Experience

• Matric/Grade 12 qualification or SAQA Accredited Equivalent
• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Journalism or appropriate work experience
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in mainstream journalism, with a proven track record in business news and financial reporting, including a wide range of industries
• Digital newsroom experience advantageous
• Good network of contacts
• Good talent for writing and copy tasting abilities
• Excellent business insight
• Advanced awareness of the media law and current trends
