• Truworths has an exciting opportunity available in our Store Design Department for a Senior Store Designer, based at our Truworths Head Office in Cape Town

Key Responsibilities    
Store Design & Layout:

• Develop innovative store layouts and floor plans aligned with brand aesthetics and operational needs.

Collaboration:

• Work with tenant coordinators, architects, project managers, visual display, marketing, operations, and suppliers to ensure cohesive execution.

3D Visualization:

• Create detailed 2D/3D drawings using AutoCAD, SketchUp, and similar tools.

Space Planning:

• Maximize product display and optimize customer traffic flow to support sales.

Brand Alignment:

• Ensure design consistency with brand guidelines across all locations.

Project Management:

• Assist in the selection of materials, finishes, fixtures, flooring, and lighting that align with the design vision and budget constraints.
• Manage own project costs in line with approved budget, and timelines.

Post-Opening Evaluation:

• Review store build, and suggest design improvements.
• Stays informed about trends in retail design and incorporate innovative ideas to keep stores fresh and engaging.

Qualifications and Experience    
Education:

• Diploma / Degree in Interior Design, or Architecture.

Experience:

• Minimum 7 to 8 years in retail design or similar commercial environments.

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Suite, etc.)

Soft Skills:

• Strong creativity, attention to detail, communication, and project management capabilities

Job Description

This is where fashion trends are analyzed and ideas are generated from information sourced through trend institutes and international fashion fairs, whilst consultants in the major fashion capitals monitor trends from Retailers in the USA, UK and Europe.

Key Responsibilities    

• Using your considerable experience, expertise and great fashion eye you can absorb and work with these global trends to identify what is new and happening, in terms of colours, fabric, styles and trims for each Truworths brand for the next season.
• Ability to communicate, energise and inspire our teams of Buyers, Planners and Merchandise leadership using this exciting fashion information to develop an extensive range of garments and styles with limited quantities of each item to ensure exclusivity.

Qualifications and Experience    

• Preferably 5 years of design experience in a similar fashion retail or creative manufacturing environment.
• Alternatively, as the role requires you to practically apply your creative energy; you may be one of those rare breeds of Fashion Buyers, who can move between the two or have experience in both design and buying.

Competencies    

• Your skill set should include: Design skill ability with experience in the following: InDesign, Photoshop, and CAD skills with strong strength in product.

Key Responsibilities    

Pattern digitising

• Digitising hard copy patterns into the Lectra / Gerber pattern system.
• Maintain pattern numbering system within fit categories.

Position markers

• Supply of position markers and templates for new and existing styles.
• Ensuring that print sizes are in ratio for garment sizes.

Sample briefs

• Working with the sample co-ordinator and pattern maker to turn around sample briefs in within the required sample turn around period.
• Supplying sample patterns for repeat styles with corresponding position markers.

Pattern changes

• Carrying minor styling changes on patterns within the Lectra / Gerber pattern system.
• Deletion and addition of patterns within the system in accordance with fit specification changes.

Qualifications and Experience    

• The applicant must have completed a course in pattern making on the Lectra / Gerber computerised pattern system or have gained experience on manual pattern making.

Competencies    

• A consistent methodical approach to pattern storage and numbering is required which enables entire department to identify and apply correct patterns to styles/fits

Key Responsibilities    

• Plan and manage project construction programme
• Prepare and manage project budget
• Ensure that all stores are built to the Company's standards
• Liaise with developers and project teams to ensure that the premises are developed in accordance with the agreed specification
• Survey proposed new sites and give feedback to Properties with respect to the extent of leasehold work required
• Give advice and assistance to Divisions with major repairs and maintenance issues
• Assist with the exportation of shopfitting elements from South Africa to relevant African countries
• Liaise with external energy consultants & internal store operations teams regarding the energy conservation initiatives in stores
• Prepare reports for the Board and various relevant committees relating to feedback of the energy conservation initiatives

Qualifications and Experience    

• Seeking candidates with experience as a Quality Surveyor and Project Manager
• Experience dealing with contractors etc.
• Ideally retail and shop fitting experience
• Matric and relevant qualifications
• 5 years min relevant recent working experience
• Retail project management experience in Africa and experience of managing projects on the ground, sourcing local contractors and materials etc.
• An understanding of exporting and shipping of shopfitting beyond the borders of South Africa
• An awareness of energy conservation options that are available in the retail environment
