    Test Analyst II | Retail IT | BI

    Job Summary

    • Allan Gray Retail IT consists of over 150 people who have a wide range of skills and responsibilities. One of the skills we take pride in, is software testing. Retail IT has a passionate testing community, which includes QA Architects, Test Leads, Managers, and mentors that work together with the Test Analysts to innovate, build testing frameworks, and help make our software delivery cycle more efficient so that we deliver good quality software timeously. 
    • We believe our Test Analysts play a vital role not just in ensuring the quality of the software we develop, but in making it better, all the way from backend to frontend.
    • As a Test Analyst in our team, you will play a critical role in the design of our software to ensure it is developed with quality in mind from the very beginning and solving the many complex challenges along the way, using some of the industry’s latest technologies. Technical testing is a key part of what we do, so we expect our Test Analysts to have a strong technical background to help design, develop, and support the systems that enable us to deliver world class software rapidly.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Take ownership of testing activities within your team across the SDLC.
    • Apply and promote best testing practices within the team.
    • Participate in defining the testing approach for each sprint:
    • Work closely with Business Analysts to derive clear, testable user stories. 
    • Collaborate closely with Developers, in identifying, logging, prioritizing, and verifying defects. 
    • Contribute meaningfully to team ceremonies and quality discussions.
    • Estimate testing effort and manage expectations around scope, risks, and timelines.
    • Manage and maintain test data. 
    • Contribute to manual and automated tests in-sprint.
    • Actively contribute to increasing measurable manual and automation coverage at all levels.
    • Maintain existing test packs.
    • Document and execute manual tests.
    • Create, debug, verify, and maintain automated scripts.
    • Review others' Merge requests.
    • Keep pipelines healthy and current.
    • Report on test execution, risks, and issues.
    • Debug test results.
    • Follow and drive root cause analysis to prevent future defects, both in Prod and In-sprint.
    • Contribute to the use of available tools and technology.
    • Implement quality improvement initiatives (supported by Senior testing leadership).
    • Actively manage risk. 
    • Provide first‑ and second‑line support for production issues when required.

    Competencies

    • You have strong analytical thinking with the ability to break down complex problems into clear, test artifacts. 
    • You have proven experience in API testing.
    • You understand microservice architecture.
    • You know how to read and write SQL, with experience testing within databases, reports, and applications.
    • You have a practical understanding of CI/CD.
    • You know where automation adds value (Unit, Integration, Acceptance Testing, E2E). 
    • You understand the benefits and costs of manual vs automated testing.
    • You are continually trying to improve your testing skills.  
    • You have and can work under pressure and manage competing priorities. 
    • You have solved complex testing issues. 
    • You can drive testing tasks and manage expectations around them.
    • You can understand requirements to come up with sufficient and measurable testing coverage.
    • You can quickly learn new technologies and apply them effectively in testing.
    • You can program.
    • You have working knowledge JavaScript.
    • You have experience in other scripting languages.

    Education

    • Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems ideal.

    Business Analyst | Institutional Fund Operations | Business Change Analysis

    Job Summary

    • Allan Gray’s Institutional Operations seeks the expertise of a Business Analyst to join the Business Change Analysis team.  This BA role is focused on supporting the delivery of change across business processes, data, and systems. You will work within a team of established Business Analysts, contributing to cross-team initiatives while building capability within the team.
    • The role offers the opportunity to combine operational understanding with structured analysis, while driving delivery within initiatives, supporting and learning from other analysts and developing strong business analysis practices.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Develop a strong understanding of current and future business processes, data flows, and supporting systems across Institutional Operations
    • Analyse defined business problems and translate operational and system impacts into clear, structured business requirements and documentation
    • Contribute to delivery within assigned projects, managing tasks, identifying gaps and risks, and supporting coordination of timelines and dependencies
    • Engage with stakeholders across business, operations, and technology teams, leading workshops where required and clearly communicating analysis outcomes
    • Apply critical questioning to challenge assumptions and ensure well-understood and robust requirements

    In addition to your delivery-related responsibilities, you will:

    • Work as part of a team of Business Analysts, sharing knowledge and contributing to a consistent standard of delivery across the group
    • Contribute to establishing and reinforcing business analysis practices, including requirements gathering, problem-solving approaches, and documentation 

    Required skills and experience
    We are looking for candidates with solid Business Analysis experience in an institutional asset management environment:

    • 3–5 years’ experience as a Business Analyst (or similar), primarily within asset management
    • Commerce or STEM related degree with a strong academic record
    • Strong understanding of institutional asset management concepts, including instrument types, fund structures and the asset management lifecycle
    • Experience working on projects across key stages of delivery (from scoping and analysis to implementation), with ownership of defined components
    • Strong documentation and presentation skills, including experience producing business requirements (functional, non-functional, and information requirements), business cases and structured project documentation
    • Experience engaging with stakeholders across business and technical teams
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently within defined scopes

    What will set you apart

    • Industry recognised Business Analysis qualifications (e.g. CCBA, CPBA)
    • Ability to connect analysis to business outcomes and identify risks and opportunities within your area of responsibility
    • Experience working on operational change or system implementation initiatives
    • A proactive and structured approach to identifying gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities
    • Good understanding of systems and data flows, including upstream and downstream impacts
    • Ability to independently query and work with data to support analysis
    • Interest in developing broader understanding of systems, data, AI and technology within the business
