    Engineering Shift Foreman

    The ideal candidate would be responsible for

    • Managing his team – both Mechanical and Electrical;
    • Maintaining discipline and time-keeping;
    • Control of resources: Labour & spares;
    • Compliance with all management and safety programmes within the company;
    • 20 Keys, Planned maintenance, OHSAct, Meat safety;
    • Managing Engineering downtime;
    • Assist with budgets and capital projects.

    The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:

    • Matric or N3;
    • Be in possession of a Trade Test Certificate as a Fitter or Electrician or Millwright;
    • 5 years Poultry abattoir maintenance experience including 1 year at supervisor/team leader level;
    • Own reliable transport;
    • Experience in the Food Processing Industry would be an added advantage;
    • Must be able to work overtime, shifts, weekends and public holidays.

    Handyman

    The ideal candidate would be responsible for: 

    • Perform routine and schedule maintenance of plant and equipment;
    • Attend to breakdowns on plant and equipment;
    • Be responsible for the shift in the absence of the Supervisor while still reporting to the Shift Foreman;
    • Maintenance and operation of the Rendering Plant and Effluent Plant;
    • Implementing and maintaining of 20 Keys program.

    The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:

    • Matric or relevant qualification;
    • Basic Handyman course will be an advantage;
    • Rendering Plant experience will be an added advantage;
    • Mechanical Fitting experience will be an added advantage:
    • Have own, reliable transport;
    • Forklift License will be an advantage;
    • Must be able to work shifts, weekends and public holidays

    Refrigeration Millwright

    The ideal candidate would be responsible for:

    • Perform routine and scheduled maintenance on the plant utilities.
    • Attend to breakdowns on relevant machines at the refrigeration plant.
    • Standby duties for Refrigeration, boilers, fire system and utilities.
    • Implementing of 20 Keys/ HACCP / Risk Control and apply general housekeeping rules.

    The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:

    • N4 and Millwright/Fitter/Electrician trade certificate.
    • PLC and VSDs certificate and experience advantageous.
    • Ammonia refrigeration experience and willingness to register as Category B for the site.
    • At least 5 years’ experience as an Artisan in a Poultry/Food factory environment.
    • Strong electrical experience will be an advantage.
    • Knowledge of the 20 Keys Program will be an added advantage.
    • Be prepared to work shifts including working extra hours, standby and call outs.
    • Must be able to work overtime and weekends as required.
    • Must have own reliable transport.
    • Computer literacy.

    Site Supervisor

    Key Responsibilities

    • Supervise and coordinate farm workers in poultry houses and related facilities.
    • Monitor flock health daily, identifying signs of disease, stress, or injury.
    • Manage feeding schedules, water supply, and environmental controls (temperature, ventilation, humidity).
    • Implement and enforce biosecurity measures to prevent disease outbreaks.
    • Maintain accurate records of feed usage, growth rates, mortality, and production.
    • Oversee vaccination programs and liaise with Managers when necessary.
    • Ensure compliance with animal welfare, food safety, and labour regulations.
    • Train and mentor staff on best practices in poultry care and farm safety.
    • Manage inventory of feed, medicines, and supplies.
    • Prepare regular reports for farm management on performance and productivity.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    • Diploma or certificate in Agriculture, Animal Science, or Poultry Production (NQF Level 3 or higher).
    • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in poultry
    • Strong knowledge of poultry nutrition, health management, and biosecurity practices.
    • Proven leadership and team management skills.
    • Ability to work long hours in farm conditions.
    • Excellent organizational and record-keeping abilities.
    • Familiarity with agricultural regulations and compliance standards.

    Logistics Manager

    The ideal candidate would be responsible for:

    • Management of the Cold Store Warehouse and Distribution department while maintaining and increasing Efficiencies and Quality.
    • Managing Monthly expenses and budget for the department.
    • Management of a large diverse workforce.
    • Managing the factory shop.

    The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:

    • Must have relevant qualification in the management of Cold Stores and Logistics.
    • At least 5 years’ management experience.
    • Preferable Production to Warehouse experience.
    • Must have good management, communication and interpersonal skills, as well as problem solving and planning skills.
    • Experience on LN would be an advantage.
    • Create, maintain and report professionally on the Logistical department workings.
    • Must be computer literate and a sound knowledge of Logistical and Warehouse
    • It is essential that the candidate have a passion for 20 keys and the implementation.
    • Must be prepared to work weekends and afterhours when required.
    • A tertiary qualification together with experience in FMCG environment would be an added advantage.

    Plant Engineer

    The required qualifications, skills and experience for this role are:

    • Possession of a Government Certificate of Competence (GCC) is essential
    • Bachelor in Engineering, B-Tech or equivalent; Electrical / Mechanical
    • Must have at least 3 years maintenance and engineering experience within a poultry / FMCG / food manufacturing environment, or similar
    • Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and MS PowerPoint)
    • Working knowledge on AutoCAD is a great advantage
    • Excellent administration and problem-solving skills;
    • Ability to work under pressure and timeous resolving of queries;
    • Basic understanding of the 20 Keys concept is essential;
    • Must be able to work independently
    • Must be a strategic thinker and able to advise the relevant stakeholders of continuous improvement strategies within the engineering space to better support operational efficiencies
    • It is essential that the successful candidate be self-motivated, deadline driven and great attention to detail
    • Excellent leadership and communication skills is essential

    The main tasks and activities of this role are:

    • To ensure the safe operation of the processing and utility operations as per the OHS Act 85 of 1993;
    • Continuously improve and enhance the sustainability of the operational environment into effective energy and resource allocation & utilisation, thereby reducing the environmental impact and carbon footprint of the County Fair operations
    • The continuous reduction of downtime within the processing environment through focused and results driven management and engineering strategies;
    • Planning, costing and execution of capital projects delivered on time and within budget;
    • Daily management of key utilities; energy, coal, refrigeration and water
    • Daily management of equipment up-time – OEE improvements
    • Continuous Improvement of all aspects under your control using the 20 Keys workplace improvement program;
    • Approve designs, calculations and specifications
    • Manage, and therefore continuously strive, to improve plant reliability / operational performance;
    • Align engineering strategy with production and safety targets
    • Daily effective problem-solving (RCA) and implementing mitigation strategies
    • Ensure equipment selection suits chemical service (corrosion, temperature & pressure)
    • Ensure modifications comply with the OHS Act, plant standards, commissioning and handover
    • Compiling of the annual maintenance budget and overall cost control within the maintenance environment;
    • Assist in the management of the engineering & maintenance teams;
    • Daily interaction with a large number of suppliers in an endeavour to proactively source the most cost effective and quality intrinsic solutions, thereby maximizing plant uptime and output; 
    • Daily interaction with various departmental and Astral Group role players at senior management level.
    • Lead, develop and mentor engineering team of Management, Foreman and Artisans
    • Collaboration with operations, SHEQ and management teams

    Millwright

    Qualifications:

    • Millwright Trade Certificate (Section 13 and served apprenticeship)
    • Minimum N4 qualification in the relevant field
    • Wiremen’s license will be advantageous
    • PLC and VSDs certificate and experience will be advantageous

    Experience:

    • Previous experience in a FMCG environment
    • Computer literacy: basic MS Office (MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook)

    Other requirements:

    • Must be a team player and able to work with minimal supervision
    • Willing to work shifts and overtime
    • Fluent in English and an additional official language
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • The ability to work in a highly pressurized environment
    • Must be deadline driven
    • Must have own reliable transport

    The ideal candidate would be responsible for:

    • Routine and scheduled maintenance in the plant
    • Attend to electrical and mechanical maintenance on machinery in the plant  
    • Dismantle, move, assemble, install and align equipment and machinery
    • Ensure electrical reticulation is maintained in good working order
    • Repair and lubricate machinery and equipment
    • Fault finding and repairs in the plant
    • Repair basic electrical circuitry and components and testing of units to evaluate electrical and mechanical operation
    • New installations, modifications, upgrades and repairs to machinery and systems
    • Maintain plant and equipment in a safe and acceptable overall condition
    • Implementing of 20 Keys/ HACCP/ Risk Control and apply general housekeeping rules
