    Senior Manager (Wastewater Design) - DURBAN

    Job Purpose    

    • Manages the key performance areas of the design branch by evaluating the adequacy and capability of the functionality to support the departmental objectives, controlling the personnel and financial resources, developing and/or reviewing current procedures, identifying with opportunities and trends to facilitate continuous improvement initiatives.

    Key Responsibility Areas    

    • Identifies and defines the immediate, short and long term objectives/plans of the branch.
    • Applies civil engineering principles to provide direction on the technical design andconstruction of a variety of operations.
    • Disseminates strategic, functional and operational information on the immediate, short andlong term objectives.
    • Co-ordinates specific administrative and reporting requirements.
    • Directs and control outcomes associated with utilization productivity and performance ofpersonnel within the branch.
    • Prepares capital and operating estimates for the branch and approves and controls operationaland project related expenditure against budget allocations.
    • Manages the formulation of contracts and tender documents and controls contractualobligations.

    Essential Requirements    

    • BSc (Engineering) Degree (NQF level 8).
    • Registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
    • Valid motor vehicle driving license.
    • 8 Years post registration Civil Engineering experience in water and sanitation.

    Preferred Requirements    

    • 9 Years post registration Civil Engineering experience in water and sanitation disciplines.

    Pool Supervisor (Seasonal) - DURBAN

    Job Purpose    

    • To provide aquatic safety services and total supervision of the maintenance and development services rendered to all municipal swimming pool facilities and surrounding recreation, leisure facilities within the Ethekwini Municipal Area. 

    Key Responsibility Areas    

    • Prepares and supervises allocated staff and resources.
    • Proactively supervise and control the activities within defined Municipal swimming pool, leisure and recreation facilities.
    • Perform line function administration and control of resources.
    • Communicates, liaises and interacts with communities internal and external stakeholders.
    • Ensures the health and safety of staff and the general public.
    • Maintain an up-to-date working knowledge in the field of facilities management.

    Special Conditions:

    • Required to undertake skills and fitness tests and training.
    • Required to wear prescribed uniforms whilst on duty.
    • All Supervisor posts within the department are interchangeable.
    • May be required to work irregular hours and/or overtime.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Must be able to perform all physical requirements of the post. Required to pass departmental
    • fitness test as and when required.

    Essential Requirements    

    • An appropriate level of secondary education.
    • Valid Pool Lifeguard Award Certificate or equivalent. 
    • Valid First Aid Certificate.
    • 2 Years relevant experience in the supervision of staff, able to operate a filtration plant in municipal facilities.

    Preferred Requirements    

    • Matric/Grade 12.
    • Surf Proficiency Award or equivalent. 
    • Pool Management Certificate.
    • 3 Years relevant experience.

    Pool Attendant (Seasonal)

    Job Purpose    

    • To perform various manual tasks and duties in compliance with applicable policies and procedures to deliver effective and efficient development and maintenance services to public swimming pool facilities within the eThekwini Municipal area. 

    Key Responsibility Areas    

    • Prepares for the days work ensuring that all small plant, tools, stores and materials required for the daily tasks are collected, are in good working order and are returned to the relevant storage areas at the end of each shift. 
    • Undertakes manual duties required to maintain the swimming pool, its change rooms, buildings and surrounds.
    • Assists members of the public in addressing minor complaints and queries by applying principles of Batho Pele and refers more complex issues to the Supervisor.
    • Ensures Occupational Health and Safety Act regulations are complied with. 

    Special Conditions:

    • May be required to work irregular hours and/or overtime.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Must be able to perform all physical duties required of the post in an efficient and effective manner

    Essential Requirements    

    • An appropriate level of primary education.
    • 1 Months knowledge in the swimming pool environment.

    Cashier (Seasonal)

    Job Purpose    

    • In conjunction with the Pool Supervisor, undertakes a cashier function, which includes issuing of tickets and collection of revenue in compliance with Council procedures, policies and procedures.

    Key Responsibility Areas    

    • In conjunction with the Pool Supervisor, undertakes sale of tickets and coupons to the public. 
    • Undertakes pool booking by receiving and diarising events, advising the Clerk of bookings and
    • communicating with the Pool Supervisor. 
    • In conjunction with the Pool Supervisor, attends to members of the public. 
    • Informs the Pool Supervisor of unacceptable behaviour by the public and assists the Pool
    • Supervisor in an emergency by telephoning the relevant personnel. 

    Issues permits to the public.

    Essential Requirements    

    • An appropriate level of secondary education.
    • 3 months relevant experience in handling cash and ability to interact with the members of the public.

    Preferred Requirements    

    • Matric/Grade 12.
    • 6 Months relevant experience.

    • To perform clinical and supervisory Management of Occupational Health services throughout the Ethekwini Municipality so as to reduce employee exposure to workplace hazards and occupational disease.

    Key Responsibility Areas    

    •  Managing the administrative, clinical and specialised functions of the Occupational Medicine Services Section, as delegated by the Occupational Health Physician.
    •  Assisting the Occupational Health Physician in the planning and organisation of delegated services and specialised functions.
    •  Investigating and making recommendations to the Occupational Health Physician as to the adequacy and needs of all delegated services and functions.
    •  Liaising with medical staff, senior administrative staff and senior staff of other sections in respect of services and section requirements.
    •  Assisting with coordination and implementation of Occupational Medicine Services in respect of civil protection requirements.
    •  Ensure regional clinics comply with the Medicines Control regulations.
    •  Managing and overseeing medical and clinical management of HIV/AIDS in the workplace.
    •  Supervising subordinates.
    •  Maintaining an up to date knowledge of all elements of comprehensive health service legally, ethically and academically.
    •  Assisting with the planning and conducting Occupational Health programmes.

    Essential Requirements    

    •  Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), (NQF Level 8) or equivalent recognized by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and an Advanced Diploma in Occupational Health (NQF Level 8) or equivalent acceptable to the HPCSA and current valid registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
    •  Valid motor vehicle driving license.
    •  6 Years experience in Occupational Health as an Occupational Health Medical Practitioner.

    Preferred Requirements    

    •  8 Years experience in Occupational Health as an Occupational Health Medical Practitioner.

    Job Purpose    

    • To manage the Branch responsible for the design and implementation of capital projects for the Water and Sanitation Unit and the reduction of non-revenue water.

    Key Responsibility Areas
