Purpose of the Job:

• To monitor compliance with insurance legislation, to conduct investigations relating to insurance business and to ensure a sound and efficient insurance industry. The person appointed to this position will report to the Manager.

Key Performance Areas:

•  Liaise with the public and other stakeholders when receiving complaints or enquiries;
•  Investigate complaints and enquires within the required departmental turnaround times;
•  Monitor compliance with legislation to ensure the protection and fair treatment of policyholders;
•  Participate in on-site inspections to insurers to establish compliance with insurance legislation; best practice   and market conduct related issues;
•  Manage relationships with insurers assigned in the portfolio; 
•  Perform administrative and other activities relating to the regulatory framework as may be required; and
•  Assist the department with projects that the department is working on.

Requirements

• A B. Com or law degree with at least 5 years relevant work experience in the insurance industry. Sound knowledge and understanding of the Insurance Acts and the insurance industry related operational requirements are essential. A Compliance and/or Risk Management background is needed

Purpose of the Job: 

• To provide specialised legal support on litigation and legislation issues, opinions and interpretation of legislation administered by  the FSCA and support to the Departmental Head with training and guidance of junior legal staff members. The person appointed will report  to the Departmental Head.

Key Performance Areas:

•  Assist the Departmental Head with the handling of litigation by and against the FSCA;
•  Assist the Departmental Head in providing advice to the FSCA with regard to regulatory functions and duties;
•  Prepare comprehensive briefs for external legal representatives;
•  Provide high quality legal advice and opinions, which include a broad legal and regulatory practical approach;
•  Reviewing and monitoring the effectiveness of financial services and Banking legislation as well as subordinate legislation in both areas; and
•  Assist the Departmental Head with coaching and technical guidance to junior staff in various areas of operation within the Office of General Counsel.

Requirements

• An LLB degree, with about 15 years continuous post admission experience and at least 8 years exposure to the financial services industry. Extensive knowledge and experience in litigation practice in the regulation of the financial services industry, extensive understanding of the financial services legislation. Extensive experience in drafting court papers, legal documents, conducting legal research and in general legal practice, as well as experience in providing specialised legal advice to clients. Management experience and the ability to interact at very senior levels will be an added advantage.
