    Assistant Plant Breeder

    • A global horticultural seed company is seeking the above to be responsible for assisting the Head of Breeding with developing and creating new hybrid Tomato`s for specific market segments.

    Minimum requirements for the role:

    • Must have a relevant Honours Degree specializing in Plant Breeding or similar field
    • Minimum 2+ years’ experience in Breeding
    • Must have a good level of organization and time management
    • Proficiency in English (Written and Spoken)
    • Must have a valid driver’s license
    • Willing to work across a broad range of diverse tasks and environments
    • Willing to work in field and greenhouse conditions

    The successful candidate will be responsible for:

    • Supporting the breeder and farm teams in managing tasks such as seed picking and sowing, generating germination reports, transplanting, maintaining plants, pollinating, harvesting, extracting seeds, disinfecting seeds, drying seeds, packaging, and updating inventory in the breeding database.
    • Assisting and supporting, under the guidance of the breeder, in planning, designing, implementing, and executing breeding programs; evaluating and assisting in the selection process and contributing towards the efficient and timely output of the breeding programs.
    • Coordinating and communicating breeding program activities to the breeder, the farm team, pathology and molecular teams, and research management.
    • Taking responsibility for and assisting in sampling for MAS and providing pathology support.
    • Assisting the breeder in planning, organizing, and supervising crossing blocks.
    • Assisting the breeder in managing accurate and detailed breeding program data using Phenome, including entering data, managing inventory, interpreting information, and reporting.
    • Coordinating, following up, collecting data, interpreting results, and reporting on various on- and off-site trials.
    • Taking responsibility for seed shipments and maintaining records.
    • Implementing and adhering to phytosanitary requirements and performing seed health testing.

    Agronomist - Paarl

    • A diversified South African agricultural company specializing in the manufacturing and supply of agricultural inputs including liquid and dry fertilizers, lime, gypsum, agrochemicals, animal feeds, diesel, and bioremediation products is seeking the above to be responsible for delivering agronomic support and driving sales through on-farm advisory, client relationship management, market monitoring, and continuous technical service to fruit growers.

    Minimum requirements for the role:

    • Must have a B. Sc. Agriculture or related degree or extensive practical experience in the fruit industry with a strong, proven focus on fruit production
    • Demonstrated and verifiable sales track record; agricultural inputs/agronomic services is preferred
    • In-depth, hands-on technical knowledge and experience in fruit production (varieties, pests, diseases, nutrition, irrigation, soil management in the Boland region is a distinct advantage)
    • Valid driver’s license (Code 08/EB) and willingness to travel extensively within the Western Cape Stone Fruit/Pome Fruit/Table Grape region and occasionally overnight
    • Strong existing network/relationships with fruit growers in the Boland area or ability to rapidly build one

    The successful candidate will be responsible for:

    • Delivering expert technical agronomic advice and crop programs to fruit growers in the designated territory.
    • Actively promoting and selling the full range of agricultural products and solutions (fertilizers, crop protection, biologicals, adjuvants, etc.) to both existing and new clients.
    • Conducting regular on-farm visits to scout crops, diagnose problems, take samples, assess plant health, soil conditions, irrigation efficiency, and overall crop performance.
    • Building and maintaining long-term, trusted relationships with fruit farmers, packhouses, co-operatives, and key industry stakeholders.
    • Identifying, developing, and closing new business opportunities while growing wallet share with current clients.
    • Monitoring and reporting on market trends, competitor activities, pricing, new product launches, and customer feedback.
    • Achieving and exceeding monthly, quarterly, and annual sales budgets and KPIs.
    • Providing product training, demonstrations, and trials on farms and at grower days/field days.
    • Ensuring exceptional after-sales service, technical follow-up, and rapid resolution of customer complaints or product performance issues.
    • Preparing and submitting accurate weekly reports (visits, sales, trials, market intelligence) and maintaining an up-to-date CRM system.
