    Senior Researcher - Radiolabelling (Hay level 16 - Internal/External)

     Key Performance Areas:

    Knowledge Dissemination

    • Capture research work done in written format; at least as co-author in regular progress reports, annual progress reports, technical reports, local and international conference contributions and journal publications.
    • Publish in the relevant field.
    • Report research results orally at Necsa wide colloquia and national conferences/ meetings/workshops.
    • Provide input on editorial panels and workshops OR conference organizations or topical workshops.
    • Perform research and generate outputs in accordance with the role of expert in the relevant technical field within the organization.
    • Contribute to publications as primary author of peer-reviewed published works.

    Human Capital Development Local and International

    • Provide training to colleagues and students in identified subjects/skills. Provide academic supervision to post-graduate students.
    • Contribute as a member or lead a research team with specific responsibilities.
    • Contribute to capacity building, outreach events, and other community services. e.g. science week, science expo, etc.
    • Co-supervise graduate projects and MSc/MEng level students, and train colleagues in area of expertise.

    Contribution to Necsa Business Processes

    • Execute research tasks with no supervision.
    • Create know-how or process development that is of commercial and/or strategic value to Necsa, e.g. Innovation Disclosures.
    • Contribute to preparation of client reports e.g. calculation or experiment.
    • Coordinate defined activities as researcher in projects visible at section/group level. Contribute to project design and planning.
    • Support the establishment of strategic partnerships with industry and scientific bodies that meet Necsa’s strategic and academic goals.
    • Coordinate technical research projects spanning at least 1 – 2 years.
    • Develop proposals for new projects

    SHEQ and Other Audits

    • Participate and contribute to Business Process Management (e.g. document management and timesheet) Systems.
    • Perform activities aimed at improving safety, quality and security, e.g. Building Head, BBS Management Sponsor, R&I Representative on SDC, etc.
    • Take the lead in processes aimed at improving safety, quality and security, e.g. Building Head, BBS Management Sponsor, R&I Representative on SDC, etc.
    • Assist in the resolving of audit findings and improvement actions.

    Financial Management

    • Support achievement of budget goals and/or develop project budgets as project leader.
    • Increase income (e.g. Research Grants like NRF Thuthuka) and reduce wasteful expenditure of research projects.
    • Control cost of managed projects. Contribute to increasing research project funding availability by leveraging against potential funding streams like the NRF (NEP), TIA Seed Fund, IAEA (TC), Contract Research, etc.

    Qualifications & Experience:

    • M.Sc/MEng/MTech. in chemistry
    • 5 years’ research experience in a chemistry field, including at least 2 years in radiochemistry

    Operatorx2 Waste Characterization (WC) - Hay level 9 (Internal /External advert)

    Job Requirements

    OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Receiving, verifications, loading and scanning of drums.
    • Fully operate the BNFL and IQ3 scanner to ensure Drum throughput.
    • Problem reporting/ Trouble shooting/ Problem solving on BNFL and IQ3 scanner and process monitoring.
    • Ensure that collecting and inspecting of QC parameters is conducted on time.
    • Ensure that Filing checklist/Qc reports/inspections are completed.
    • Ensure that all checklists are fully completed, signed and filed correctly.
    • Ensure that duties are executed as planned.
    • Attend all training as scheduled (WKI, Forklift, Crane etc.).
    • Ensure that facility NILs are valid and report prior to expiry
    • Identify all working resources and make sure that they are in good working condition.
    • Team work with the operating team involved in the operation of the facility (± five operators).
    • Perform AD-HOK task.

    SAFETY RESPONSIBILITY  

    • Reporting all incidents and near misses.
    • Serve as facility HSE Rep, if nominated.
    • Conduct monthly BBS observation as required.
    • Ensure that statutory checklist are completed.
    • Ensure that all safety instructions are adhered to as per applicable licence and SHEQ requirements.
    • Ensure that PPE are used at all relevant times and according to instructions.
    • Ensure that PPE are kept   in acceptable conditions.
    • Do all necessary standby duties when requested.

    HOUSEKEEPING  

    • Ensure that working areas are kept clean and acceptable.
    • Ensure that all equipment is cleaned and maintained.
    • Ensure that everything is in its place

    DECONTAMINATION OF CONTAMINATED AREAS UNDER THE SECTIONS CONTROL

    • Clean up of contaminated area/spillage etc. according to work instructions and safety instructions

    SECURITY CONTROL OF All PDO Facilities

    • Comply with NECSA’s security procedures and policies

    Minimum Qualifications

    Manager: NECSA Maintenance (Electrical and Instrumentation) Hay level17/D2

    Job Requirements

    • Maintenance of instrumentation & electrical distribution network from point of supply to point of use in building facilities, utilities production equipment and manufacturing facilities in subsidiaries when required. 
    • Lead the maintenance management of critical infrastructure and assets across the Necsa Group, including electrical substations, electrical distribution networks, instrumentation and electronics systems, security fencing, CCTV systems, buildings, boilers, compressors, chillers, lifting equipment, mobile equipment, passenger lifts, and other production and utility assets.
    • Manage the Electrical Maintenance, Instrumentation & Electronics Services, and Civil Maintenance portfolios, ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective maintenance operations.
    • Develop, implement, and continuously improve Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM) and Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) programmes to maximise asset reliability, minimise downtime, and extend equipment life.
    • Plan, schedule, coordinate, and monitor preventive, predictive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance activities, ensuring timely completion of work and effective backlog management.
    • Improve equipment reliability by reducing downtime, increasing Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), conducting root cause analyses, and implementing sustainable maintenance improvement initiatives.
    • Optimise maintenance strategies, procedures, and work practices through continuous improvement initiatives, identifying skills gaps and recommending process and training enhancements.
    • Coordinate internal maintenance teams and external service providers to maximise planned shutdown opportunities while minimising unplanned equipment outages.
    • Ensure the maintenance, calibration, testing, and statutory compliance of electrical, instrumentation, electro-mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
    • Ensure that buildings, plants, utilities, and associated infrastructure remain fit for purpose by providing proactive engineering support and maintenance solutions.
    • Manage maintenance materials, spare parts, and expenditure, ensuring effective cost control, inventory management, and accountability.
    • Maintain accurate maintenance records, asset information, and equipment data within the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to support planning, reporting, and decision-making.
    • Lead the acquisition, installation, commissioning, modification, and decommissioning of plant, machinery, and equipment, including preparing technical specifications, managing suppliers, and ensuring safe and compliant disposal of obsolete assets.
    • Develop, monitor, and report on departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), ensuring maintenance objectives align with organisational performance targets.
    • Conduct risk assessments, implement mitigation measures, and ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and statutory requirements across all maintenance activities.
    • Manage contractors and service providers to ensure compliance with legal, contractual, quality, safety, and company requirements.
    • Prepare technical reports, management presentations, and performance analyses to support operational and strategic decision-making.
    • Monitor industry developments, emerging technologies, and changes affecting maintenance services, materials, and equipment, providing recommendations to enhance operational performance and asset management.

    People management 

    • Manage the team on technical best practice and establish standard policies and procedures whilst also mentoring and leading the department. 
    • Manage the team to ensure machine availability, proactively managing dysfunctional machinery 
    • Maintain the human capacity and competence in the Necsa Group to be able to provide sustainable maintenance support  
    • Undertake continuous training and development  
    • Provide technical expertise to the team 
    • Identify and deploy the technical skill sets, resource levels and systems to deliver on all maintenance projects, including the engagement of external resources as required
    • Manage, coach and develop a high performing maintenance team that meets agreed objectives and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements
    • Set department objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports  
    • Report on achievement of targets and identify any actions required

    • Work as part of the Management team to share ideas and improve operation, recommending, supporting and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimize results and improve quality of delivery, in line with quality standards requirements delivery in line with Company and Customer requirements 
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance
    • Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the maintenance strategy 
    • Communicate with stakeholders the impact of market change and potential effects on engineering design and development. 
    • Recommend solutions without compromising quality or service while optimising cost 
    • Liaise and communicate with other departments, customers, suppliers and other service providers 
    • Ensure an effective interface with other departmental staff is maintained

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • BSC/B-Tech Electrical Degree 
    • Formal management diploma 
    • GCC qualification would be an advantage.

    Minimum Experience

    • At least 5 years’ experience in an electrical and instrumentation maintenance management role
    • Experience of managing Profit and Loss (P&L) responsibilities for maintenance budget
    • Understanding of manufacturing and procurement/supply chain
    • Understanding of ISO 14001/9001/45001 
    • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office
