    Solutions Advisor: Integration & Strategic Approaches

    Description of Position

    • The Solutions Advisor: Integration & Strategic Approaches will support the design and implementation of strategic, innovative, and integrated solutions for enhanced programming that align with USAID/South Africa and regional health offices (including but not limited to RHO, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, and Mozambique) strategic goals. They will be a thought partner for USAID and leverage TSS achievements and successful approaches to help meet the unique needs of USAID/Southern Africa and the RHO, particularly in relation to integrating the latest global, regional, and national guidance. The Solutions Advisor: Integration & Strategic Approaches will support USAID to sustain TSS’ contributions to high-quality technical deliverables, high-fidelity program management and implementation, productive strategic engagements with stakeholders, and meaningful communication of program impact to key audiences.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities 

    The Solutions Advisor: Integration & Strategic Approaches will support one or more of the following areas: 

    Program Integration for Sustainability 

    • Support the integration of TSS support to USAID, promoting seamless coordination across various teams specializing in Collaboration, Learning, & Adapting, Strategic Information, Care & Treatment, and Prevention. Ensure that services are aligned and coherent across different programs to maximize efficiency and impact.
    • Work closely with USAID and TSS project managers and technical teams to design and implement integrated solutions that foster cross-pollination of ideas and leverage best practices. Facilitate the adoption of innovative approaches that enhance the overall effectiveness of health programming.
    • Develop and recommend strategies for integrating TSS support with USAID’s goals, focusing on improving the efficiency, reach, and impact of health programs. Ensure that all solutions are strategically aligned with USAID’s objectives, including South Africa’s National Strategic Framework, National Health Insurance, and Accelerator Agreements.
    • Provide expert guidance on optimizing TSS project management approaches and processes to support the integrated delivery of practical, efficient solutions. Promote and facilitate cross-team collaboration to ensure that solutions for health programming benefit from a holistic and coordinated approach.

    Strategic Planning & Advisory

    • Identify and propose innovative solutions that shape future programming and strengthen TSS’ support to USAID teams in strategizing for an evolving health office portfolio, including strategic planning, program monitoring, routine reporting, and communicating achievements to key audiences. 
    • Support USAID and TSS to operationalize and integrate global, regional, and national priorities and guidance related to sustainability planning and health systems strengthening.
    • Provide expert advice on aligning solutions with USAID’s strategic objectives, ensuring coherence across different programs and initiatives, and developing tools, guidelines, and resources to support the implementation of integrated approaches.
    • Support the use of data to inform continuous improvement and adaptation of health integration strategies.
    • Promote knowledge sharing and learning across the organization and with external partners.

    Storytelling & Packaging Technical Content

    • Support TSS and USAID teams to translate and package complex technical information into clear and compelling products appropriate for specific target audiences. 
    • Transform complex technical content into clear, concise, and persuasive communications materials tailored to specific target audiences that USAID can use to highlight its achievements and impact on national, regional, and global levels.
    • Lead the identification, writing, and review of materials for publication at conferences and other learning events, ensuring the content effectively communicates program outcomes.
    • Working closely with the technical and communication teams, create compelling knowledge products that document best practices, innovations, lessons learned, and program achievements that effectively communicate the impact of USAID's work.
    • Design comprehensive toolkits and facilitate phased orientation sessions for USAID on TSS deliverables, ensuring a smooth transition process. This includes organizing learning events or other methodologies that celebrate progress, reflect on shared learning, and discuss sustainability.

    Requirements

    • A minimum of a master's degree in public health, health management, or business administration, or equivalent experience. 
    • ​10+ years of experience in the health and development sector in southern Africa. A minimum of five years of experience with progressively increasing responsibility managing development programs involving multiple partners and stakeholders in a developing country context.
    • Demonstrated ability to liaise with senior government officials, dignitaries, executives of non-governmental organizations and/or the for-profit business community, and senior members of the donor community. 
    • Demonstrated technical expertise in one or more of the TSS technical areas. 
    • Excellent interpersonal, writing, and oral presentation skills, with the ability to adapt messaging to various audiences in English. 
    • Strong HIV and Global Health Security programming proficiency.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals from diverse professional backgrounds. 
    • Analytical thinker and attention to detail.

    Solutions Advisor: Data Storytelling

    Description of Position

    • The Solutions Advisor: Data Storytelling will be responsible for building the skills of USAID, government counterparts,  and/or  implementing partner staff to turn complex data sets into compelling, easy-to-understand narratives that engage and inform stakeholders, both internally and externally. This highly creative and data-driven position will create custom solutions to the unique needs of each USAID, government, and partner context, leveraging best practices and integrating lessons learned. This will include building relationships with various teams and key stakeholders, promoting effective forms of data analysis and communication, and facilitating sustainable knowledge transfer between teams.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities 

    The Solutions Advisor: Data Storytelling will support one or more of the following areas: 

    • Use narrative-style tactics to transform complex technical content into clear, concise, and persuasive communications tailored to specific target audiences that USAID and its implementing partners can use to highlight its achievements and impact on national, regional, and global levels.
    • Utilizing existing resources where possible, develop a data storytelling training curriculum applicable for USAID and implementing partner staff.
    • Conduct (primarily) virtual training  sessions with USAID, government counterparts,  and/or implementing partner staff on how, after identifying key insights and trends, to generate and ultimately tell a compelling story.
    • Plan and lead engaging webinars with meticulous attention to detail and participant interaction, ensuring seamless delivery aligned with audience needs and objectives.
    • Develop and promote forums to facilitate learning, such as communities of practice.
    • Develop and maintain a library of data stories that showcase USAID’s and USG’s impact. 
    • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in data storytelling and visualization. 
    • Translate data into clear, concise, and impactful visualizations and presentations.
    • Spearhead the development and implementation of tools and best practices.
    • Other activities as assigned.

    Requirements

    • A postgraduate degree in Data Science, Data Analytics, Data Visualization, Public Health, Epidemiology, International Development, Information Systems or a related field.
    • 5-10 years of post-graduate experience, including 5 years’ experience in data analysis and storytelling, preferably in the field of public health or development.
    • Strong analytical and data visualization skills, with a deep understanding of data-driven storytelling principles and techniques. 
    • Proficiency in data analysis tools, such as R, as well as visualization tools such as Tableau and PowerBI. 
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex data in a clear and engaging manner. 
    • Experience with compiling and preparing presentations and other learning materials that demonstrate adult learning principles.
    • Demonstrated skill and experience in facilitating groups, meetings, and events (both online and in-person), resulting in collaborative decision-making, agreed upon action items/priorities, and strong outcomes.
    • Demonstrated ability to transfer knowledge to diverse audiences (capacity strengthening) through training, mentoring, and other formal and non-formal methods using adult learning methodologies.
    • Ability to work independently and take initiative, as well as collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. 
    • Working knowledge of virtual conferencing technologies, such as Zoom, Google Meet, and/or Teams as well as proficient in the use of Microsoft 365 applications and Google Workspace to share information in a compelling and visually engaging way.
    • Detail-oriented and excellent time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and deliver required results in a timely and quality manner.
    • Full professional proficiency in the English language. Able to use the language fluently and accurately on all levels pertinent to professional needs.​
