Responsibilities:

• Promote and sell solar energy products and services to residential and commercial customers
• Responsible for generating leads, conducting sales presentations, and closing deals
• Educate customers about the benefits of solar energy and provide them with customised solutions that meet their energy needs while maximising cost savings and environmental sustainability

Requirements:

• Proven track record in sales in the solar or renewable energy industry
• Strong understanding of solar energy systems, their benefits, and the underlying technology
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage and build rapport with customers
• Ability to deliver persuasive sales presentations and address customer objections
• Strong negotiation and closing skills to achieve sales targets
• Self-motivated and target-driven with the ability to work independently
• Proficient in using CRM tools and sales software for lead management and reporting
• Ability to analyse energy consumption patterns and provide accurate system sizing recommendations
• Knowledge of local regulations, incentives, and financing options related to solar energy is a plus
• A valid driver's license, own car and willingness to travel to customer sites as needed

Job Description

• RPO Recruitment’s client, a leading construction company in South Africa is currently looking to hire a qualified and experienced Commissioning Manager who can join their successful team in Johannesburg as soon as possible. 
• The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing the commissioning activities for electrical EPC projects with a strong focus on PV, Wind, BESS, Transmission Lines, and HV Substations. 
• The position will be site-based during commissioning phases and office-based in Johannesburg during project planning, preparation, and coordination periods.

Requirements:

• BSc/BEng/BTech or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
• Certification in project management (e.g., PMP or PRINCE2) is advantageous
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in commissioning management roles on electrical infrastructure projects, preferably in renewable energy, BESS, and grid infrastructure
• Proven experience commissioning HV/MV substations, renewable power plants (solar/wind), BESS, and transmission lines
• Strong understanding of electrical protection schemes, SCADA, communication systems, and grid compliance requirements
• Familiarity with SANS, NRS, IEC standards, and relevant grid codes (e.g., Eskom Grid Code)
• Experience coordinating with Eskom, municipalities, and OEMs for grid integration and testing
• Proficient in interpreting electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and control logic
• Strong project management and leadership skills
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively to remote project sites
• Experience with SCADA and energy management systems commissioning preferred
• Knowledge of construction and commissioning management software/tools
• Working knowledge of SHEQ practices in the energy sector

Key  Requirements:

• BSc, BEng, or BTech in Electrical Engineering.
• Professionally registered with ECSA (PrEng or PrTech), or eligible for registration.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience
• Procurement of electrical plant and equipment for large infrastructure projects.
• Electrical transmission and substation design and construction.
• HV and EHV transmission systems.
• Commissioning of substations (advantageous).
• Strong stakeholder communication and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and substation design software (CDEGS, ETAP, DIgSILENT).
• Able to think analytically and act with initiative in complex project environments.
• Designing, maintaining, and optimizing high-voltage electrical systems that transport power from generation sources through substations to distribution networks.
