PURPOSE:

• To oversee the operation of the fishing vessel, ensuring the safety of the crew, managing the fishing activities, and navigating the vessel to optimal fishing grounds.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE WITH LEGAL AUTHORITIES

•  Total compliance with safe manning, all SAMSA, Maritime OSH, Class regulations and requirements.
•  Compliance with Company watch keeping procedures
•  Legal Compliance to Fishing Regulations and Permit conditions

VESSEL OPERATIONS & EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE

• Ensure that all machinery and equipment are maintained and kept in a good working condition to guarantee continuous and effective operations.

FISHING PERFORMANCE

• Ensure care and maintenance of fishing gear and equipment.
• Ensure that due care is practiced when fishing on hazardous fishing grounds.
• Ensure that fishing and production targets as defined are met.

QUALITY & COST CONTROL

• Ensure that defined quality standards are met and maintained.
• Vessel operating within allocated budgets.

CREW MANAGEMENT & TRANSFER OF SKILLS

• Ensure that discipline is maintained.
• Foster & promote a harmonious working environment
• Prioritize the transferring of skills by officers and managers.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

• Fisherman Grade 2 or Skipper Fishing> 24m (Limited Waters)
• Valid SAMSA Medical Certificate (unrestricted)
• Valid STCW documentation
• Proven track record of Hake Bottom Trawling Fishing ability
• Experience as a Freezer Trawler Skipper
• Personnel management and safety awareness
• Fluent in the English language, both spoken and written.
• Able to follow company instructions and procedures
