Tasks and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business challenges, needs, processes and requirements
• Accountable for gathering, clarifying and documenting data and reporting requirements – including scope, sources, data fields, measures, definitions, exceptions, visualisations and security.
• Obtain confirmation or decisions from SMEs or stakeholders where required.
• Assess effectiveness, integrity and accuracy of data sources and optimal data gathering techniques.
• Perform data analysis to map and model data into central repository.
• Design proof of concept and support developers to ensure successful delivery.
• Guide clear data storytelling and visualisation to ensure meaningful insights shared with consumers.
• Design optimal data visualisation and mockups, and build, or oversee, dashboards/ reports.
• Produce clear and comprehensive delivery artifacts.
• Define test scenarios and perform unit and functional testing as well as oversee QA and UAT to quality assure final output.
• Defines a change strategy to ensure trust and adoption encouraged in user community.
• Executes tasks defined in strategy to mature user adoption.
• Facilitates user forums explaining available and/or new functionality.
• Drafts/ commissions training material and user guides for users.
• Once productionised, some support may be required.

• Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology or related fields
• Relevant analytical, statistical and BI, and data warehouse experience
• Data modeling using the Kimball methodology
• Proficient in SQL, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Pivot, Power Query, Power BI, TeamFoundationServer
• Advantageous: experience in Finance, Financial Services, Human Capital, and/ or Marketing, Communication, Public Affairs & Sustainability

The incumbent will be responsible for development, testing, maintaining and supporting software that meets business requirements on the Policy Administration System. The incumbent will also be responsible for lead developer functions to improve team processes.

What will make you successful in this role?

• Adheres to defined software development lifecycles and best practice (including code standards, code reviews, source control, etc.)
• Configure and develop screens and applications that meet business requirements (UI’s, business logic, rules, process flow, etc.)
• Build integration / web services 
• Create XML payloads for integration between systems
• Create test data and unit tests to ensure developed software works according to business requirement, design and specification
• Considers non-functional requirements during software development (e.g. performance, load, response, etc.)
• Prepare and produce releases of software components
• Support and maintain developed applications and services
• Continuous improvement of the team processes, quality of deliverables and technical standards
• Provide estimates on development efforts required for sprint planning

Generic Functions

•  Contributes and collaborates with team members across the SDLC from business analysis, design, development and testing in Agile / self-managed team environment
• Identification of potential risks / issues and give input into risk plan
• Provide support to other members of the Development Team and members of the Project Management team as required

Quality Assurance

•  Unit and functional testing of developed software to ensure it meets quality standards
• Responsible for code reviews 
• Participate in technical issue resolution meetings

 Qualifications and Experience

• Relevant Tertiary IT qualification and/or qualification through experience 
• Minimum of 5 years’ IT development experience across the systems development lifecycle 

Solid experience in :

• Java 8, J2EE 
• XML
• Object oriented development
• Web application development
• Web services
• Experience in SQL
• Experience with all phases of the software development lifecycle 
• Experience with Agile Methodology 
• Experience in integrating applications with 3rd party solutions using REST/JSON and SOAP/XML requests 

Knowledge and Skills

•  Knowledge of SOLID principles / Design Patterns and their use
• Working knowledge of the Atlassian Suite of products (e.g. Bamboo, JIRA, Confluence) would be advantageous
• Knowledge of Agile methods, e.g. Kanban, SCRUM 
• Knowledge of Groovy advantageous
• Knowledge of the short term insurance industry is advantageous

Minimum Qualification Required

• Grade 12/Standard 10/NQF 4
• Completed FAIS credits
• Regulatory Exam – (RE 5)
• Relevant tertiary qualification (3 years qualification) Advantageous

• +6 years insurance sales call centre experience
• +3 years’ experience of general supervision of more junior colleagues (advantageous)
• General understanding of Sales systems and applicable processes

Duties and Responsibilities: 
Data Governance

• An understanding of data security, data retention, data quality and data migration methodology.
• Ability to implement a data migration plan (HFM to One Stream).
• Contributes to data analysis/design of the One Stream collector forms.

Technical accounting

• An advanced understanding of IFRS statements.
• Experience in the financial services industry.
• An understanding of Meta and Master accounting data.
• Exposure to preparing IFRS annual financial statements.

Reporting

• Providing support to IT developers and business stakeholders regarding the build and delivery of the new Once Stream Consolidated Chart of Accounts.
• Implements changes to the supplementary disclosures within the One Stream
• Consolidated Chart of Accounts.

Requirements

• B.Com. Finance/Accounting Honours
• Qualified Chartered Accountant with a minimum 3 years post article experience.
• International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) experience in the Financial Services sector.
• Experience in producing consolidated Annual Financial Statements for a financial services company.
• Experience with Oracle Smart View / HFM Webform / One Stream Web form.
• Knowledge, exposure and understanding of data analysis and data solution design.
• Knowledge, exposure and understanding of data bases and master data.
• Intermediate Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word skills.
