    Senior Engineer - Water

    Job Description

    • The Senior Engineer is a senior technical resource and delivers discipline involvement in projects and ensures effective delivery input of others. Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations, drawings and reports etc. The role includes design development, design review, supervision, coordination and design documentation. Guides junior engineers and independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete design works. The appointed candidate will be based in either Cape Town or Centurion, South Africa.

    The successful applicant will be required to undertake:

    • Hydraulic modeling analysis
    • Surge Analysis, Transient wave analysis
    • Hydraulic modelling and design of Bulk infrastructure and reticulation systems, Pumpstation and reservoir designs
    • Preparation of project specifications, bill of quantities and tender documentation
    • Water and sewer master planning and flood risk assessments
    • Mentoring junior engineers

    Minimum requirements

    • Eight to twelve years' experience in a similar role - essential
    • Experience in Master Planning studies, hydraulic analysis and design of bulk water and sewage infrastructure - advantageous
    • Experience in the design of water demand management and design of water and sewage reticulation systems, reservoirs, pumpstations – advantageous
    • Knowledge of detailed water supply and sewage drainage design and multi-disciplinary interfaces - advantageous.
    • Experience in the use of surge analysis and associated design software technology applications (e.g. Bentley Hammer, waterGems, SewerGEMS, InfoWorks, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS etc.) - highly advantageous
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, or equivalent
    • Master's degree or equivalent, would be an advantage
    • PrEng registration

    Senior Hydraulics Engineer – High Energy Systems & Hydrodynamic Effects

    Job Description

    • We are looking for a technically strong Senior Hydraulics Engineer with proven experience in high energy water systems, including spillways, energy dissipation structures, and hydrodynamic impacts on hydraulic infrastructure. The role will involve concept development, advanced numerical and physical modelling, and the design of complex hydraulic systems associated with dams and hydropower projects. 

    Key Responsibilities: 

    • Develop and review designs for high energy hydraulic structures (e.g. spillways, plunge pools, stilling basins) 
    • Perform advanced hydraulic modelling (2D/3D CFD and/or physical model review) 
    • Evaluate hydrodynamic loads and pressure effects on structures 
    • Assess cavitation, air entrainment, flow instabilities, and transient effects 
    • Collaborate with civil and geotechnical teams on integrated design solutions 
    • Contribute to technical reports, specifications, and design documentation

    Qualifications
    Role Requirements: 

    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, or related discipline (Master’s degree preferred) 
    • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in hydraulic design for dams, hydropower, or similar infrastructure 
    • Strong experience in hydraulic modelling tools (e.g. Flow3D, HEC-RAS, OpenFOAM, or similar) 
    • Understanding of physical modelling methods and scale effects 
    • Familiarity with high-energy hydraulic phenomena (e.g. water hammer, cavitation, air entrainment) 
    • Chartered or working towards Chartership (ICE, Engineers Australia, or equivalent) 
    • Strong technical reporting and communication skills, with ability to clearly present complex results

    Technical Specialist - Water

    Job Description

    • To lead the Dams and Hydropower Sector in delivering engineering projects and ensuring sustainable business growth.
    • Provides strong technical leadership and is considered to be a competent professional in their field.
    • Act as a Project Manager /Director on medium to large-sized projects
    • Responsible for financial management of projects in the sector
    • Work collaboratively at both an internal and external, client-facing level, developing new client relationships and maintaining existing networks within the business.
    • Ensure all quality assurance processes are followed, delivering on time and within budget for design projects.
    • Support the business development and selling initiatives to expand work assignments, including managing client relationships and expectations.
    • Prepare proposals and participate in the development of bids and technical write-ups for proposals
    • Guide and mentor junior engineers and designers, contributing to the growth of our talent pipeline.

    Main duties
    Business Management:

    • P&L management of Dams and Hydropower
    • Sector forecasting of revenue and expenditure
    • Budget planning
    • Management of project invoicing
    • Management of accounts receivable
    • Strategic planning.

    Team Management:

    • Responsible to manage and lead the Dams and Hydropower team
    • Personnel performance management
    • Develop and ensure good team morale and spirit
    • Utilization forecasting and team management
    • Personnel skill assessment and development.

    Project Management:

    • Successful completion of projects
    • Quality management according to the company procedures
    • Mentoring and guidance of project managers in a project director role.

    Business development:

    • Engagement of potential and existing clients on future projects both locally in the African market and supporting our Global business with pursuits.
    • Business Opportunity management
    • Opportunity risk assessment
    • Proposal management
    • Sourcing of partners for opportunities.

    Bid cost estimation Engineering:

    • Mentoring of project team
    • Approval and sign-off of design
    • Review of design/study reports.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • At least 15 years’ experience in dams/hydropower and general water engineering
    • Fluent in English (ability to speak/write French will be an added benefit)
    • Demonstrated experience in managing complex projects and meeting delivery requirements.
    • Management experience of teams of 10 people or more.
    • Ability to and interest in guiding and mentoring junior engineers and designers, contributing to the growth of our talent pipeline

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s in civil/mechanical engineering (Master’s degree will be preferred)
    • Professionally Registered with ECSA or relevant professional body
    • Registration as an Approved Professional Person (South Africa) or equivalent

    Qualifications

    • Experience with environmental impact assessments for large-scale water projects
    • Proficiency in project management software and tools
    • Knowledge of renewable energy integration with hydropower systems
    • Familiarity with dam safety regulations and risk assessment methodologies
    • Publications or presentations at international conferences related to dams and hydropower
