    Manager – Financial Services Advisory (Gauteng)

    Description

    • BDO South Africa has vacancies for Managers to join our Financial Services Advisory Division in our Johannesburg Offices.
    • The Manager manages work assignments to completion within the allocated time frame and to an appropriate standard (quality). In addition to managing client engagements, the Manager should be able to effectively mentor and coach team members, while having a strong focus on business development and internal initiatives.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Take ownership of, and manages work assignments to completion within the allocated time frame and to an appropriate standard (quality), through:
    • proper planning before the assignment,
    • appropriate coaching during the assignment,
    • attention to quality of the deliverable and the supporting documentation, adequately completing provisions,
    • managing the WIP appropriately and within budget, where applicable, billing the engagement, and
    • closing the engagement.
    • Is an effective project manager
    • Track any delays and overruns and raises these at the relevant partner catch-ups and client meetings. Get immediate and timely agreement from the client to overruns.
    • Reviews written documents to ensure that they are organised, well-written, referenced and easy to follow.
    • Establish effective working relationships directly with key clients and broader BDO stakeholders.
    • Bring industry insights and recommendations to the client during client discussions. Ensures value-added delivery to the client driving sustainability of client relationship and work allocation
    • Coordinate and lead meetings with the key client stakeholders and internal senior stakeholders in the absence of the partner.
    • Assess and manage project risks, processes, and controls.
    • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the client’s processes and methodologies, including the reviews of process flows.
    • Develops a more strategic view of the business and participates in strategic initiatives through the coaching of the partners.
    • Able to lead initiatives from commencement to conclusion with minimal coaching and mentoring. Understands when to request input or assistance.
    • Takes on operational role/s within the business, in addition to allocated client assignments
    • Participate in proposal development as and when required    
    • Participate in training efforts 

    Requirements
    Qualifications:

    • Bcom Internal Audit    
    • Bcom Information Systems/Informatics    
    • Bsc Computer Science    
    • CISA, CA(SA) or CRISC

    Experience and Knowledge:

    • 5 to 6 years of IT Audit Experience
    • Knowledge of General IT Controls, Application Controls, Data Analytics, ISAE 3402 reviews, Business process analysis

    Consultant: Board Support (Assistant Company Secretary) (Cape Town CBD)

    Description
    Key Responsibilities

    Functional Management

    • Ensure client compliance with the Companies Act, associated regulations, and company bylaws.
    • Provide expert advice on King IV corporate governance principles.
    • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes, advising clients on necessary actions.
    • Manage the filing and sorting of statutory documents and returns in line with Companies Law.
    • Oversee accurate and timely administration of company records, including CIPC lodgments and register maintenance.
    • Maintain statutory books and registers for client companies.
    • Ensure legal compliance in the issuance, allotment, and transfer of share certificates.
    • Liaise with external regulators and advisors (e.g., CIPC, auditors, Master of the High Court).
    • Manage correspondence between client companies, Boards, shareholders, and third parties.
    • Draft board resolutions, take meeting minutes, and lodge required forms and annual returns with CIPC.
    • Prepare agendas and documentation for Board, committee, and AGM meetings.
    • Distribute meeting packs and annual work plans.
    • Attend client meetings to ensure legal compliance and provide necessary information.
    • Follow up on action items from meetings.
    • Develop tailored Board Evaluation Questionnaires and draft evaluation reports.
    • Analyse Board Evaluation outcomes and prepare Focus Area Reports.
    • Review and draft Committee Charters as needed.
    • Prepare proposals for prospective clients and manage engagement letters.
    • Respond promptly to client and stakeholder communications.
    • Prepare billing schedules and invoices.
    • Support the Consultant: Board Support in knowledge transfer initiatives.
    • Complete and respond to Know Your Client (KYC) questionnaires.

    Risk and Compliance Management

    • Adhere to all applicable laws, policies, and standard operating procedures.
    • Assist in implementing fraud controls, risk mitigation strategies, and governance processes
    • Support internal and external audit requirements with appropriate documentation.
    • Maintain and enforce Service Level Agreements to reduce risk and ensure continuity.

    Stakeholder Management 

    • Identify and address internal procedural barriers to enhance client service.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Represent the organisation in committees and task teams as required.
    • Communicate progress and challenges in executing tactical plans to relevant stakeholders.
    • Manage stakeholder communications effectively to uphold the organisation’s reputation.

    Requirements:

    Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

    Qualifications:

    • Graduate CGISA or B-Degree in Law (LLB), or Paralegal
    • Registered with Chartered Governance Institute of South Africa would be advantageous

    Experience:

    • Preference will be given to applicants with consulting experience at board level
    • 2-5 years as an assistant company secretary or company secretary
    • Experience with Trust Property Control Act advantageous

    SME Tax Manager (JHB Illovo)

    Description

    • Drive strategic operational imperatives regionally. Manages, supports, co-ordinates and administers general Financial functions and offer continuous support to Team leaders/ Supervisors/ Junior Managers.  Provides advice, guidance and direction to line management and employees in respect of all strategic objectives and Financial processes, policies and procedures.     • Preparation of vat returns (some customs knowledge would be advantageous)
    • Comprehensive management of the tax provision and tax compliance process
    • Ensure all information data requests handled timeously and effectively
