    Deputy Plant Manager: Cheese and Milk

    Job Description    

    • Join Lactalis at our Bonnievale Plant with the main responsibilities to manage all plant business units. Successful candidates need to have at least 5- 10 years' relevant experience within FMCG environment, must be able to demonstrate sound knowledge to motivate and manage people and compile budget and to do forecast.  Knowledge of systems and equipment’s and full adherence to all Safety & Health policies, procedures and legislation. Be fluent in English and be computer literate

    Required Skills    

    • Production Management, Supply Chain & Operation Management or relevant (NQF 7)
    • Cheese knowledge (product and manufacturing) 
    • Minimum experience 5-10 years in operations management, ideally in FMCG.
    • Dairy knowledge advantageous.
    • Annual budget (processing costs)
    • Have experience and operating knowledge on all plant business units.
    • Excellent numeracy skills and ability to work accurately 
    • To have presentation skills 
    • Able to work independently and must have strong interpersonal skills and analytical skills 
    • Must be accurate and pay attention to detail 
    • Must be a good communicator 
    • Understanding of BOM’s and routings 
    • BPCS /integrated system knowledge advantageous

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Compile annual budget (cost and capital) according to company systems requirement.
    • Forecast, compile and control annual budget in line with labour efficiency standards.
    • Report monthly on budget adherence.
    • Minimise input costs and raw material usage/ waste. Minimise cost on product and packaging.
    • Optimise fixed and overhead costs (labour and energy) against demand forecast and production requirements.
    • Ensure accuracy of Monitoring Systems.
    • Ensure accuracy and integrity of information to be forwarded for compiling reports to Corporate Maintain product quality according to health and quality specifications.
    • Ensure conformance to all quality processes.
    • Ensure functionality of systems audited by Head Office QA department.
    • Ensure conformance to good safety requirements. 
    • Compile and manage production plan according to targets.
    • Maintain adequate maintenance of plant equipment.
    • Identify systemic variables impeding production efficiency and create plans to address total production elements.
    • Plan and implement changes required for new product manufactured and ensure minimum disruption to existing operations effectiveness.
    • Manage all projects and deliver on them in terms of agreed project specification and budget.
    • Maintain systems such as FFSC 22000, HACCP, Continuous Improvement, TQM, TPM, NOSA, etc.
    • Plan annual human resource capacity and development needs. 
    • Instil and develop profit maximisation appreciation among all plant staff. 
    • Fill vacancies according to company policy by using competency based recruitment methodology.
    • Facilitate plant objective setting and performance management system.
    • Review and maintain communication structures and procedures to ensure people are informed and able to provide their inputs at all organisational levels (e.g. People@Work Committee, Union and Management meetings, Mini Business Units).
    • Develop a sense of pride, discipline, team work, empowerment and high productivity throughout plant.
    • Ensure harmonious working relationships across all levels and functions.
    • Develop Workplace Skills Plans and through Talent Management identify talent and plan to manage the talent.
    • Personify and maintain Lactalis values, staff morale and motivation throughout plant.
    • Maintain adherence to EE targets

    Maintenance Manager

    Job Description    

    • Join SANULAC Nutritionals at our Clayville Plant as a Maintenance Manager. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will lead the civil, electrical, and mechanical maintenance teams, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations. The role is responsible for planned and breakdown maintenance, Pragma system compliance, equipment performance, asset management, safety, quality, OEE targets, project installations, budget control, and continuous improvement. You will also coach technical teams, manage performance, and drive operational excellence across the maintenance department.

    Required Skills    

    • N6/T4/S4 Technical Diploma essential - mechanical and electrical
    • Qualified as a Millwright Artisan
    • Minimum 8 - 10 year’s experiences in Plant Maintenance in the FMCG environment, includes 3 – 5 years supervisory experience, with budget control
    • Sound experience in refrigeration and automation control instruments (Siemans PLC, Scada, HMI)
    • Working knowledge of homogenisers, heat exchangers, evaporators, dryers, processing and filling & packaging machinery.
    • Self-motivator with good planning and organising skills
    • Computer literate with sound knowledge of MS Office
    • Willing to work overtime, weekends and public holidays, when required

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Daily management of artisans includes ensuring all logbooks are completed
    • Make artisans completed all job cards in Pragma
    • Ensure artisan productivity is captured on and tracked on Pragma
    • In collaboration with maintenance planner ensure all planned maintenance activities include schedules and services are done
    • Ensure that all maintenance conducted is of high quality and adheres to FSSC 22000 and HACCP requirements
    • Ensure that all staff in your report conduct their work in a safe manner, that is in line with all safety procedures and policies
    • Ensure minimal down time and speedy resolution of breakdowns, minimising down time and ensuring maximum efficiency
    • Coaching Millwrights and processing & packing technicians
    • Conduct performance management for subordinates
    • Ensure all Productivity targets are achieved
    • To ensure that an OEE of between 80% and 85% is always maintained.
    • Complete maintenance schedules on or before required dates
    • Complete preventative maintenance schedules and make use of data to improve preventative-maintenance
    • Feedback on job cards and machine history to be accurate and on time
    • Maintain two-way communication with department managers and supervisors
    • Provide training to machine operators to service machines during normal production runs
    • Always adhere to the quality and hygiene standards of the plant
    • Do fault-finding on PLC systems
    • Day-to-day job planning and scheduling
    • Responsible for all maintenance of machines to ISO and HACCP standards
    • Update all logbooks and keep records on all plant equipment
    • Responsible for all maintenance and services of machines used in the plant
    • Schedule planning of the Plant equipment and update according to the Pragma system
    • Uphold safety procedures
    • Maintain section targets and improve targets of Plant KPA
    • Control of spares availability, budget etc.
    • Responsible for Project installation work Responsible for all Technical Documentation and drawings of the plant
    • Maintain and manage the maintenance department

    Required Skills    

    • Tertiary Degree in Engineering, preferably Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
    • Post graduate qualification in business or project management will be advantageous
