    Manager : Technical

    As a Manager: Technical, you will be responsible to:

    • Optimize the overall plant (mill) performance through process engineers who collect and collate the data on the plants they support. This is then used by the TM to analyze the big picture and formulate plans / actions.
    • Ensure reliable process analytical support by managing the laboratories regarding manpower and equipment capabilities
    • Ensure customer support by liaising with Marketing and directly with the customers to understand their exact needs and requirements. Where required, new equipment/test methods are implemented and/or developed.
    • Research, propose and motivate new capital investment to optimize current and/or new processes.
    • Co-ordinates and controls all activities required to ensure that SHEQ Management is fully operational and effective.
    • Monitors the Mill Laboratory operation so that a continuous flow of accurate process data is supplied to Production Section.
    • Directs Quality Control and the Mill Laboratory so that products leaving the Mill and Pulp produced in the Mill conform to relevant specifications. Though the Mill Laboratory advises production sections on suitability of raw materials received. 

    What are we looking for?

    Relevant Qualifications & Experience

    • B.Sc (Eng), B Tech (Pulp & Paper)
    • Management Development Programme (MDP) will serve as an advantage.
    • Computer Literate (MS Office)

    Minimum Experience

    • 8 - 10 Years’ experience in the Paper Manufacturing environment
    • 5 years Management experience

    Fitter (Bleaching & Recovery)

    As a Fitter, you will be responsible for:

    • Fit, assemble, grind and shape metal parts and sub-assemblies to maintain production machines and other equipment. Install, test, connect, commission, and modify mechanical equipment
    • Perform plant maintenance and remedial work according to SAP notifications, work orders, and planned schedules, including during shuts. Complete notifications and work orders on the SAP system
    • Do fault-finding on systems during breakdowns and repair the problem to keep downtime to a minimum. Participate in failure analysis
    • Complete daily and weekly inspections on equipment according to a detailed checklist
    • Performs any other assigned tasks that fall within the scope of a Fitter
    • Understand and comply with the safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) requirements of the Section
    • Participate in the investigation of SHEQ incidents on request and help to identify root causes for non-conformance. Correct any deviations that relate to mechanical maintenance
    • Maintain a high level of good housekeeping in the workplace at all times
    • Required to work standby and overtime as required
    • Must be willing to work at height 

    What are we looking for?

    • Grade 12 and N2 Engineering while N3 Engineering would be preferred
    • Recognised Trade Test Certificate as a Mechanical Fitter
    • 2 years post-apprenticeship experience in a heavy engineering environment will be advantageous

    Financial Accountant

    As a Financial Accountant, you will be responsible for:

     Management of accounts

    • Prepare the monthly group management accounts for Sappi Limited and assist in compiling the annual financial statements for Sappi Limited and its subsidiaries. Complete the IFRS Reporting and JSE Disclosure checklists for the quarterly financial results and annual financial statements. 
    • Prepare the quarterly group consolidation and board pack for Sappi Papier Holding GmbH and its annual financial statements.
    • Prepare monthly reconciliations, investigates variances, dealing with audit queries and assisting in ad hoc project work including refinancing, acquisitions and technical accounting queries.
    • Assist in updating the group accounting policies.
    • Assist in the implementation of any new accounting standards.
    • Perform ad-hoc tasks and projects
    • Assist with Sappi South Africa management accounting work

     Interim and year-end audit schedules

    • Manages and supervises the preparation and presentation of information and documents for interim and year-end audit for both internal and external auditors and plans accordingly ahead of time.  Obtains and confirms schedule requirements and expected audit timelines. 
    • Consolidates the transactions for Sappi Limited and Sappi Papier Holdings’ (SPH) on the Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) System ensuring that all intercompany transactions, including subsidiary investments and equity, are accurately eliminated.
    • Prepares the South African Reserve Bank’s B21 Company Returns Forms for Sappi Limited’s offshore investments.

    Authorisation

    • Becomes an authorised signatory to approve and release payment.

    What are we looking for?

    • B. Comm qualification with Accounting major
    • Minimum 3 years relevant experience
    • Hyperion Financial Management experience is advantageous
    • Financial regulatory and legal compliance is a requirement

    Mill Chemist Production

    As a Mill Chemist : Process, you will be responsible to:

    • Manage the mill’s laboratory facilities to ensure the quality conformance of pulp, paper, lignin products and other relevant analytical requirements.
    • Manage and develop organizational capability pertaining to application, market requirements and quality control of products.
    • Conduct beneficiation work on products to realise the maximum value thereof.
    • Co-ordinate the relevant resources involved with such beneficiation.
    • Investigate process conditions for optimal quality and production output on relevant products.
    • Co-ordinate relevant technical projects focussing on planning, capital expenditure preparation and implementation.
    • Provide technical support to the mill’s sales and marketing teams.
    • Investigate customer complaints and general queries via customer visits, etc.
    • Forecast and prepare annual capital, fixed and variable cost budgets, control these and report monthly on status thereof.
    • Set goals and appraise immediate subordinates on bi-annual basis, thus ensuring competency through adequate training and coaching.
    • Ensure that the department complies in all respects with the relevant statutory requirements.
    • Ensure that relevant SHEQ procedures and policies are aligned to the respective ISO standards for respective SHEQ functions.
    • Compile and present relevant information to mill management and/or interested and affected parties.

    What are we looking for?

    Management Forester -Graskop

    As a Management Forester, you will be responsible for:

    • Build, maintain and reinforce a “predict and prevent” safety culture in all integrated operations
    • Inspect operations regularly to identify risks & ensure that timeous action (blanking & pest control, coppice management) is undertaken.
    • Plan & conduct regular field inspections to ensure that crops, through the timing of operations (weed control, pest & disease management), achieve maximum yields within cost constraints.
    • Ensure that plantations use the Fire Risk Management System (FRMS) to identify risks. Record & implement fire control procedures in order to ensure the effective protection of people, plantations and other assets from forest fires.
    • Develop a tactical plan & ensure that the annual plan of operations for both commercial and open areas comply with standards and service level agreements
    • Develop a pre-harvest plan per compartment in collaboration with the Contractor and Silviculture.
    • Conduct a risk assessment per compartment in order to mitigate potential risks.
    • Ensure that the Harvesting budget is managed effectively by ensuring sales target tons/per day is achieved.
    • Compile in conjunction with Roads Engineer, annual tactical road maintenance plan.
    • Scheduling of short-haul and loading operations to ensure rail/road transport is released on time.
    • Ensure that company assets such as buildings, villages and company houses are maintained and managed effectively according to set standards (hygiene & legal compliance) and within budget constraints.
    • Ensure that relations with communities, other internal and external stakeholders are effectively maintained and managed in order to ensure company image is upheld, risks mitigated and relationships enhanced.

    What are we looking for?

    • National Diploma in Forestry or related qualification
    • Minimum of three years relevant experience.
    • Valid driver’s license.

    Engineer: Boilers

    As an Engineer: Boilers, you will be responsible for:

    • Develop, implement, and maintain standards to increase boiler plant and equipment reliability and safe operation
    • Complete failure analysis of plant and equipment  as per plant standard, identify probable root cause and ensure close-out
    • Inspect the internal condition of the boiler during shut down in relation to the AIA to obtain a COC after any modification and repair
    • Manage boiler inspection reports and repair data books
    • Assist the Maintenance Manager with long-term maintenance planning, budgeting, capex, maintenance, and project work execution
    • Provide weekly feedback to the Maintenance Manager on boiler performance, unresolved engineering problems, monthly projects report, investigations undertaken, and the status 
    • Support ISO9000 (Quality Management system), ISO14001 (Environmental Management standards), ISO50001 (Energy Management System), and OHSAS18000 (Health and Safety Management System) for engineering in the section. Educate the team on the requirements and monitor adherence to standards, policies, procedures, and work instructions
    • Participate in the development of safe work procedures for the section, perform critical task analysis, guide and monitor the team on correct isolation and lockout procedures when performing maintenance work

    What are we looking for?

    • 5 years of Boiler and turbine experience
    • Experience within the pulp and paper industry would be considered advantageous
    • NQF level 7 Engineering Qualification (BSc / BEng / BTech in Mechanical Engineering)
    • GCC (Factories) or permission to write will be considered advantageous
    • Management Development Programme (MDP) or relevant management qualification will be considered advantageous

    Process Manager - Paper - Mandeni

    As a Process Manager, you will be responsible for : 

    • Continually seek opportunities for the enhancement of productivity and quality by applying Lean Manufacturing Principles.
    • Manages the plant operations to ensure the optimum utilisation of all resources.

    • Responds to customer feedback and takes corrective action when required.
    • Understand & comply with all SHEQ requirements of the job.
    • Carries out BBS Observations
    • Identify and take corrective action in terms of SHEQ conditions and hazards.
    • Maintains a high level of good housekeeping in the workplace at all times.
    • Drive sustainability targets i.e. (fibre loss/energy usage and water usage)

      What are we looking for? 

    • BSc Degree or BTech or equivalent
    • Computer Literate (Complete MS Office Package)
    • SAP would be advantageous
    • 5 - 8 years’ experience within a manufacturing environment.
    • 2 years at supervisory level
    • 3 years’ experience in a paper mill production environment would be advantageous.
