    Work Integrated Technical Learner - Carpentry ( KZN )

    Position Purpose

    • The Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Trainee Programme aims to provide recently  qualified apprentices ( with a red seal) with practical work experience allowing them to apply their academic and vocational or practical knowledge in a real-world environment. This programme is designed to enhance participants' employability by  offering hands-on training, mentorship, and exposure to industry-specific tasks. The WIL trainee programme is conducted over a period of 24 months.

    Position Outputs

    • Perform routine maintenance and repairs.
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues.
    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations.
    • Maintain tools and equipment in good condition.
    • Document work performed and report to supervisors.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Carpentry Trade Test Certificate  
    • Trade tested within the past 4 years  
    • Youth between 18 and 35 years  
    • Less than 1 years’ experience  
    • Must be a South ,African Citizen

    Technician

    Position Purpose

    • The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance, installation, repair and problem solving of Radio Telecommunications equipment used by Transnet. These include microwave, trunked and open channel radio network equipment, base station-, mobile- and handheld- radio peripherals, telemeters and marine radio- and navigational- equipment (coastal locations dependant). The incumbent will lead the Radio Telecommunications team to achieve the above. The area of responsibility will mainly be, but not limited to, his/her geographical area.

    Position Outputs

    • Conduct scheduled routine preventative maintenance as per MICA on Radio network and peripheral equipment as well as on Radio transmission media to keep the above-mentioned equipment and networks fully functional within service and operational specifications
    • Responsible for the new installations and the commissioning of the new equipment as well as the programming thereof.
    • Conduct corrective maintenance on Radio telecommunication and associated equipment, test, repair and replace identified faulty items and re-commission equipment to restore systems to original functional condition.
    • Give regular feedback on progress / clearance of faults to Technical Command Centre (TCC), customer and maintenance controller with relevant information to update logged fault notification and time recording.
    • Supervise staff and conduct regular progress meetings to ensure timeous and effective preventative and corrective maintenance is performed.
    • Complete reports, i.e. MICA (manual for infra condition assessment), maintenance, technical, vehicle, overtime, fault and open notification, to monitor, control and complete administration processes of above tasks.
    • Implement Transnet Risk Management program on a daily basis through level one meetings, green areas, safety talks and WSWP (written safe work procedures) task observations so that all employees comply to Transnet's Safety policies and procedures.
    • Communicate regularly to the Technical Manager or TCC to customers to give feedback on progress regarding outstanding faults and installations as per customer's expectations/needs
    • Co-ordinate attendance of planned training for sub-ordinates, students and new appointees, peers as per agreed Individual Development Plans.
    • Regularly undergo training to stay competent in new technologies and equipment deployed in the Radio Telecommunications network and to selfstudy where required to acquire recent knowledge and skills
    • Maintain site files to include current records/information of equipment on each site

    Qualifications & Experience:  

    • T3/S4/ National diploma (Electrical Light Current) 22/2/2 dated 28 December 1990;  Registered as an Engineering Technician with ECSA.  Five years’ experience in Telecommunication Radio.  Be in possession of a valid (Code EB) driver's licence.  C-Green certificate  First Aid (level 2).  Fall protection & Fall Arrest

    Pilot

    Position Purpose
    Candidate to hold a Pilot License from any South African Port.

    • A pilot’s primary duty is to use his skill and knowledge to protect the ship from collision, grounding and other hazard by providing accurate and timely navigational advice to the vessel master. Where so approved by the master, the pilot may be required to safely conduct the navigation and manoeuvring of the vessel whilst in pilotage waters
    • The pilot is further responsible;
    • For the manoeuvring of the vessel within port limits having due regard for safety of the vessel, its crew and the environment.
    • Is also there to ensure the safe and efficient docking / undocking and shifting of vessels within port limit.
    • Must recognise that the observance of good seamanship dictates that operational contingency plans be available at all times
    • Provide the master with an efficient service by sharing with them his professional ship handling ship skills and his local knowledge.

    Senior Specialist: Capital Asset Management

    Position Purpose

    • Legal implementation of asset finance, acquisition finance, debt capital markets and property finance transactions.

    Position Outputs

    • Participate in and contribute to the development of an overall legal strategy for Transnet so that the Chief Legal Officer is aware of the legal requirements of Transnet and can incorporate them into the overall Legal Risk Management strategy for Transnet. and Includes preparation of the commercial and administrative law strategy and policy for inclusion into the broader legal strategy.
    • Advise the GM: Commercial Law and Transnet on the interpretation, application and implementation of various legal instruments so that Transnet adheres and complies with all applicable legislation in capital asset management.
    • Legal implementation of asset finance, acquisition finance, debt capital markets and property finance transactions.
    • Advising Transnet on the legal aspects of transactions as well as continued research into various aspects of the law and regulatory framework impacting on the legal viability of the transactions.
    • Reviewing of, among others, loan agreements, shareholders agreements, preference share agreements and security agreements.
    • Identifying and liaising with external attorneys to prepare the necessary documentation.
    • Reviewing and vetting of various agreements on behalf of Transnet
    • Drafting and reviewing financing and security documents; Inter-creditor agreements; Loan agreements; Shareholder agreements
    • Memorandums of incorporation; Security documents including, cessions and guarantees
    • Indemnity agreements; Legal opinion work
    • Attending to mandate and term sheets.

    Key tasks:

    • Provide advice to all Transnet Divisions on all capital assets management and related matters.
    • Interact with Transnet Executives on matters that are considered risky to Transnet.
    • Liaise with various external strategic bodies on legal issues affecting Transnet.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • LLB, is required.
    • The incumbent is required to be an admitted Attorney or Advocate.
    • At least 10 years’ experience, of which 5 years must be with strong focus on senior management experience within a legal environment in a large entity/multidisciplinary legal environment dealing with Commercial law, Competition and/or administrative law field.
    • Requirement of Trust and Honesty in the handling of Finances as per the National Credit Act Amendment 19.
