    IFRS Specialist

    What will you do?

    • Santam Financial Risk Management has a position available for IFRS Specialist, based in Head Office, Bellville and reporting to the Deputy Chief Risk Officer. 
    • The overall purpose of this role is to provide specialist accounting technical requirements for the Santam Group (including subsidiaries such as Centriq, SSI and MiWay). This includes working closely with the Corporate Finance division to ensure that all new acquisitions are adequately assessed in terms of the accounting impact that these transactions might have on the company and the group as well as all the subsidiaries and business units of Santam.  A key focus of the role will be to oversee the timely and effective implementation of IFRS 17, a new reporting requirement that will significantly change the financial reporting of all insurance companies across the Santam Group, aligned with the Sanlam Group.
    • The role forms part of the Risk Office who ultimately provides support to the Chief Risk Officer.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • Design and implementation of  group and interim financial statements based on IFRS 17 requirements
    • Implementation of IFRS 17 (Insurance Accounting):
      • Participation in project to determine impact on group
      • Regular communication to project participants
      • Successful implementation and parallel run of new process
      • Design and implementation of a new chart of accounts for the group
    • Design and implementation of monthly reporting to management based on IFRS 17 requirements:
      • Providing sufficient support to the group reporting team to answer queries based on new IFRS 17 performance metrics within an acceptable timeframe
      • Providing support to the group reporting team during implementation
    • Reporting to Sanlam:
      • Align project requirements for IFRS 17 with the Sanlam group project team
      • Map new chart of accounts used for Santam reporting to the new Sanlam chart of accounts
      • Oversee changes required to HFM application
    • Optimisation of systems and processes:
      • Manage required IFRS 17 changes to all systems and process (including JDE/HFM – this will predominantly include the design of a new chart of accounts that will be implemented across the entire group)
    • Effectively manage expectations of all stakeholders (mainly project related resources, subsidiaries and business units)
    • Provide overall technical support ito corporate finance transactions as well as other IFRS changes

    Qualification and Experience

    • CA (SA)
    • At least 5 years’ experience post articles in a technically demanding role. Specific focus on IFRS 17 experience.
    • Experience in implementing significant reporting changes

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint
    • Hyperion Financial Management or similar consolidation tool
    • In depth IFRS knowledge
    • Tax knowledge
    • Knowledge of the various legislation that impact an insurer (i.e. Insurance Act, Companies Act, JSE listing requirements) 
    • An analytical mind set, specifically focused on data analysis

    Claims Specialist: Accident & Health

    What will you do?

    • This career opportunity is available at SHA Risk Specialists a division of Santam for a Claims Specialist: Accident & Health, who will be based in Johannesburg: Illovo.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    Claims Portfolio

    • Attend to all aspects related to a portfolio of claims e.g. new claims, current files, diary, mail, recoveries, Agg Tracker management, third party claims, attorney/investigator matters, settlement within mandate etc.
    • Negotiate settlement agreements within mandate.
    • Draft settlement agreements.
    • Strategically manage a portfolio of claims.
    • Appoint and manage loss adjusters and attorneys where warranted.
    • Monitor and adhere to service levels in accordance with agreed service level agreements.
    • Monitor legal loss adjuster fee expenditure and refer concerns to management within the framework of agreed internal protocol.

    Analysis

    • Analyse factual and legal issues when assessing claims.
    • Critically analyse facts and their impact on the underlying merits assessment as well as the legal aspects of the policy.
    • Use judgement in making appropriate decisions on merits and policy response.
    • Critically assess and analyse the information required.
    • Conduct a strategic assessment of claims and make strategic decisions on handling of claims.
    • Have an in-depth understanding of technical and legal aspects impacting on the policy’s operation.

    System processing

    • Attend to all aspects of system processing relevant to a portfolio of claims e.g. registration of new claims, updating of reserves, cheque requisitions etc.

    Client Liaison (Internal and External)

    • Respond to queries and resolve to the satisfaction of the affected parties within the scope of authority and / or responsibility.
    • Maintain and adhere to service levels
    • Prepare for and attend meetings.

    General Administration

    • Produce reports when required.
    • Attend to daily administrative routine tasks in accordance with organisational standards, processes and procedures.
    • Attend to the typing of general correspondence if and when necessary.

    Qualification and Experience

    • Matric
    • FAIS compliance (within the required period if not a registered Rep)
    • Medical Qualification (if possible)
    • Minimum 6 months A&H claims handling experience a preference
    • Analysis of medical accounts and medical claims handling a preference
    • Assessing medical reports and understanding medical terminology

    Treasury Accountant Officer

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    • The main responsibility for this position will entail executing and accounting for Treasury transactions which includes journalizing transactions to the Income statement and Balance sheet., preparing Treasury MI reporting and supporting the Treasury Middle Office function on an ad hoc basis

    ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • This position requires working closely with the various business partners 
    • Prepare and reconcile the settlement accounts on IT2 system 
    • Reconcile General Ledger accounts in JDE system
    • Prepare monthly summary of the ageing and resolution of unreconciled items to ensure accurate financial reporting.

    • Assist /resolve ad hoc issues / queries

    • Assist and prepare monthly Management Information packs with commentary and variance analysis

    QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE

    • B Com (Acc) / B Com Finance Degree with Financial Accounting major
    • Completed SAICA articles (advantageous)
    • Accounting via JD Edwards /Oracle system experience (advantageous) 
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Financial Accounting department
    • General Ledger reconciliation experience
    • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience on online banking platforms
