    Journalist & Researcher - Cape Town

    Requirements:

    • Relevant Communications or Journalism degree.
    • Ability to read, write and speak Afrikaans preferable.
    • Must have a minimum of 1 year working experience in journalism.
    • Must have experience in a position that was highly pressurized.
    • Valid driver's license.

    Key responsibilities:

    Research:

    • Responsible to execute thorough research required by the creative producer and director.
    • Research must be done responsibly by reaching out to relevant resources.
    • Ensure all facts are correct by double checking with various sources.
    • Ensure that research and packs are deep and consistent by not only offering the well-known and obvious information.
    • Ensure all responsibilities are aligned with the deadlines as set out by the production sheets. 

    Writing:

    • Responsible to ensure that script writing is done in correct tonality.
    • Ensure all scripts have flair and is of high TV standard.
    • Ensure that the correct casting information is supplied to post-production, and that spelling is correct. Straps must always be checked.

    Communication/on-set responsibilities

    • Must attend shoots if required to do so by the creative producer.
    • Ensure that all stakeholders are up to date with any editorial or other casting developments.
    • Responsible to ensure that all post-production elements are handed over, including EPG’s.
    • Ensure ad hoc responsibilities on-set are executed well.

    Guest liaison

    • Ensure that casting is done timeously, with back-up options should it be needed.
    • Ensure that appropriate casting is done.
    • Employ networks and think of creative ways of ensuring all casting is of outstanding quality.
    • Ensure good relations and clear communication is held with all relevant participants.
    • Ensure release forms are managed (if not by yourself, ensure that this responsibility is managed).
    • Ensure that a record is kept of all participants.
    • Ensure that all practical arrangements with participants are held and honoured (if not by yourself, ensure that this responsibility is managed).

    Journalist - Eikestadnuus

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Investigate and research articles
    • Write quality news and feature articles, adhering to strict deadlines
    • Create target-market-specific articles
    • Generate feature ideas
    • Adhere to the quality, style and content standards as laid out and required by the particular publication
    • Comply with the requirements of the South African Press Code
    • May be required to assist and support freelance staff and junior permanent staff
    • Proofreading of articles
    • Generate and liaise with a network of contacts to assist with research or completion of articles or features
    • May be required to complete layout and other production related tasks, take photographs and produce content for online and other platforms

    Skills and Competencies:

    • Ability to write fluently in Afrikaans and English

    • Ability to work under extreme pressure and adhere to strict deadlines

    Requirements:

    • Diploma or degree in Journalism, Languages or Media Studies
    • Experience in writing for a newspaper or magazine
    • Good general knowledge of particular target market of the publication
    • Knowledge of topical issues and current affairs
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Proficient in relevant computer software packages and application
    • Passion for media, knowledge of current affairs
