    Financial Accounting Specialist - JHB

    Job Description

    • You will be responsible for directing the timely and accurate preparation, compilation, and distribution of financial reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and transparent transaction reporting as well as ensuring the timely completion, compilation, and distribution of relevant sections of internal reporting, month end reporting, and external results.

    More of your responsibilities will include:

    • Providing detailed contribution to the consolidation of financial reports including focusing on and reviewing specific accounting areas across all operations
    • Overseeing and leading accurate presentation of financial statements for applicable entities, including the Thungela consolidated results and interim reporting requirements
    • Reviewing of consolidated results, using information gained from the operations to assess accuracy
    • Leading efforts to ensure strict adherence to accounting standards and regulations, facilitate timely communication of updates on financial reporting requirements, and conduct comprehensive evaluations of ongoing transactions for compliance
    • Communicating updates to IFRS and other reporting requirements to Thungela’s head office and mine reporting teams, ensuring timely implementation
    • Aligning current financial reporting standards, processes, and systems with regulatory changes
    • Assessing ongoing transactions for compliance with IFRS, and other relevant regulatory requirements
    • Where relevant, drive engagement with the head office or operational finance teams to ensure appropriate and timeous reporting, analysis of transactions and process improvement
    • Overseeing and ensure transparent transaction reporting and disclosure by applicable entities
    • Driving accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency of financial reporting processes by minimising risks, driving improvements, and implementing enhancements
    • Overseeing month-end processes, including journal entry processing and submission of financial data, while also assisting in budget and forecast preparation for selected entities
    • Contributing to the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and MOP (Management Operating Plan) information for selected entities, preparing additional reports and performing ad-hoc analysis as required
    • Managing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, understand and deliver on their operational needs, and identify and resolve issues timeously
    • Leading operational budgeting and consolidation initiatives
    • This role is in the finance department at band 6 and reports to the Head of Financial Reporting.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related disciplines (NQF level 7)
    • Registered with SAICA CA (SA) advantageous

    Experience and knowledge

    • Minimum 6 years’ financial accounting experience.
    • Previous experience in a coal mine environment (advantageous)
    • Experience in a JSE Listed company

    Financial Reporting Accountant - Johannesburg

    Job Description

    • You will contribute to the timely and accurate preparation, compilation, and distribution of financial reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and transparent transaction reporting as well as executing the timely completion, compilation, and distribution of relevant sections of internal and external financial reports.

    • Contributing to the development of accurate presentation of financial statements, including consolidated financial statements and interim reporting requirements for Thungela and its subsidiaries
    • Ensuring adherence to accounting standards and regulations across areas of responsibility, communicate updates on financial reporting requirements, and evaluate ongoing transactions for compliance
    • Supporting the alignment of financial reporting standards, processes, and systems with regulatory changes
    • Assessing ongoing transactions for compliance with IFRS and other relevant regulatory requirements
    • Supporting the process of minimising risks in financial reporting processes, establish clear audit trails, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy in reporting processes.
    • Minimising risk in financial reporting processes and documentation, establishing clear audit trails
    • Conducting consolidation activities, ensuring accurate and compliant financial reporting across all entities within Thungela and its subsidiaries
    • Conducting month-end processes, including journal entry processing and submission of financial data, while also assisting in budget and forecast preparation for selected entities
    • Managing month-end processes for specific head office entities, including processing journal entries and ensuring compliance with Thungela accounting policies and relevant accounting standards
    • Executing the implementation of policies, procedures, and standards, monitors financial systems' performance, reconciles data accurately, and identifies areas for process enhancements
    • Monitoring the performance and accuracy of financial systems, reconcile financial systems to ensure accurate mapping and loading, and identify areas of improvement in current processes for implementation
    • Conducting VAT-related tasks, including schedule preparation, review of submissions, and reconciliation, while also handling the preparation or review of financial statements for various entities, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations
    • Preparing and/or reviewing financial statements or notes for various entities in the Thungela Group, including iXBRL tagging and CIPC submission
    • Managing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, understand and deliver on their operational needs, and identify and resolve issues timeously
    • This role is in the finance department at band 6 and reports to the Head of Financial Reporting.
