As an ER Consultant, you will be responsible for:

- We are on the lookout for an Electrical Engineer to supply competent and cost-effective maintenance and engineering support, service, advice, solutions, and techniques to maximize plant production and plant availability in a safe and legally compliant manner.
As an Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for:
Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality
- Enforce technical team compliance with SHEQ policies, work permits, ISO standards (9000, 14001, 50001, 45001), Safe Work Procedures, and Critical Task Analyses.
- Provide continuous SHEQ guidance, conduct routine inspections, maintain safety records, and educate the team on operational standards.
Operational Excellence
- Implement maintenance standards, drive legal compliance for electrical installations, conduct audits, and enforce adherence to Maintenance Business Processes.
- Manage shutdown/long-term maintenance planning, lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on plant failures, and execute fast-response breakdown repairs to maximize uptime.
- Oversee SAP Maintenance reporting and data integrity, manage maintenance contracts and vendors, guide plant modifications, and fulfill standby/overtime duties.
Budget and Cost Control
- Monitor weekly expenses against budget, approve requisitions within mandate, and explain variances to the Maintenance Manager Electrical.
- Participate in 5-year capital planning, develop business cases for cost-effective plant changes, and manage equipment renewal/capex projects on time and budget.
Reporting
- Provide regular feedback to the Maintenance Manager Electrical on overall plant performance, unresolved engineering issues, and cost management.
Lean a Technical/Maintenance Team
- Manage team recruitment, performance, development, and discipline, providing direct on-the-job coaching to build predictive maintenance and problem-solving skills.
Build Customer Relations
- Maintain effective communication with internal/external suppliers and customers, actively responding to feedback and initiating corrective action.
What are we looking for?
- BSc, BEng, BTech, BEng Tech, or Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- First line management develpoment program or a relevant Management qualification is advantageous.
- 2 to 8 years’ maintenance experience within a heavy industrial environment.
- Proven SAP knowledge is highly advantageous.
- Prior experience leading or supervising a technical/maintenance team is advantageous.

As an Electrician, you will be responsible for:
Safety and Environmental Compliance
- Understand, perform tasks, and comply fully with all organizational SHEQ requirements, policies, procedures, and best operating practices.
- Report all unsafe acts, maintain exceptional workplace housekeeping, and assist production personnel with plant isolation processes on request.
- Participate in SHEQ incident investigations, identify root causes, and correct any deviations related to electrical maintenance.
- Obtain valid work permits and strictly adhere to all safe work conditions throughout task execution.
Plant and Equipment Efficiency
- Install, test, connect, commission, maintain, and modify electrical equipment, wiring, PLCs, drives, and control systems.
- Perform scheduled, shutdown, or remedial maintenance via SAP work orders/notifications, and accurately complete operational activity logs and status reports.
- Troubleshoot electrical breakdowns rapidly to minimize downtime, participate in failure analysis, and report all defects or risks to the supervisor.
- Complete daily/weekly inspection checklists, recommend preventative actions to the foreman, and perform diagnostic tests on AC/DC motor windings and insulation.
- Draw required spares from Stores using SAP picking lists while maintaining tool and material readiness.
- Knowledge transfer: Share operational and technical knowledge continuously with colleagues across sections.
- Standby & Overtime: Respond to after-hours and weekend breakdowns on a standby rotational basis.
- General: Execute any additional tasks within the legitimate professional scope of an Electrician.
What are we looking for?
- Grade 12 or N3 Engineering Certificate.
- Recognized Trade Test Certificate as an Electrician.
- Minimum 2 years post-apprenticeship experience in a heavy industrial environment, with a strong focus on electrical fault-finding (advantageous).
- Valid driver's license.

- We are on the lookout for a Rigger to provide a specialist service to the customer on rigging and inspection of lifting equipment on a daily basis and shift basis throughout the mill according to safe engineering standards.
As a Rigger, you will be responsible for:
Ensure Health, Safety, Environmental Compliance
- Create a safe work environment by identifying and managing risks associated with the task to be performed.
- Report incidents and accidents immediately to the Foreman and participate in incident investigations as required.
- Take out work permits and perform Job Safety Analysis (JSA) risk assessments in accordance with Sappi policy.
- Maintain a high level of good housekeeping and ensure the correct selection and use of PPE at all times.
- Obtain and maintain the required licenses for operating various mobile equipment across the mill.
Work Scheduled & Planned Maintenance
- Liaise with plant engineers, foremen, and production personnel to scope work and advise on rigging requirements.
- Assist production personnel with the isolation process where required when taking out work permits.
- Perform specialised rigging tasks by assessing job requirements and calculating safe lifting angles, radii, and loads for lifting equipment and mobile cranes.
- Conduct legal inspections on lifting equipment, complete statutory registers, and declare equipment fit or unfit for use.
- Drive mobile cranes and machinery when required or in the absence of designated crane drivers.
- Support shift artisans with breakdown repairs and opportunity maintenance, actively sharing knowledge across teams.
Effective Communication
- Maintain clear communication with artisans and crane drivers during active rigging operations and lifting equipment maneuvers.
- Attend maintenance morning meetings and promptly report any plant defects, abnormalities, or safety risks to the Foreman.
What are we looking for?
- Grade 12 or N3 qualification with Mathematics and Physical Science.
- Recognized Trade Test Certificate as a Rigger.

- We’re on the lookout for a Softwood (SW) Operator to control the operations of Softwood plant from Softwood Entry Deck to Softwood Chip Pile.
As a Softwood (SW) Operator, you will be responsible for:
- Safely operate, start up and shut down softwood plant machinery in accordance with Best Operating Procedures (BOPs) and safety requirements.
- Perform pre-operational checks and monitor plant equipment using physical inspections, CCTV and SCADA systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Control and monitor log feeding, debarking and chipping operations to optimise chip quality, minimise timber wastage and prevent equipment damage.
- Monitor plant performance and identify abnormal or emergency conditions, taking appropriate corrective action in accordance with established procedures.
- Monitor and maintain continuous chip production and supply, ensuring the plant operates at optimum capacity to meet daily production and quality targets.
- Identify and safely clear log, bark and foreign-material blockages on conveyor systems and assist with related plant interventions and knife changes.
- Monitor log and chip quality, identify deviations and communicate production, quality, equipment and operational issues to the relevant stakeholders.
- Comply with SHEQ requirements by identifying and mitigating risks, reporting unsafe conditions and incidents, conducting BBS observations and maintaining good housekeeping/5S standards.
What are we looking for?
- Matric (Grade 12) with Math’s and Physical Science or an N3 in Pulp and Paper?
- Minimum of 6 - 12 months’ experience working within the Woodyard Section.
