    Trainee Train Assistant -Sishen

    Position Purpose

    • Assist the Train Driver in the safe and efficient driving/handling of all different types of trains/locomotive consists (airbrake, vacuum, high speed, heavy haul and passengers) to ensure that the customers freight/cargo reaches its destination in good condition, on time, in order to enable the organisation to satisfy the customers’ needs.

    Position Outputs

    • Sign on duty at designated work place and be allocated duties to be performed for the duration of the shift.  Determine which locomotive to be prepared  Obtain and place equipment on locomotive  Check and supplement prescribed equipment  Clean working area  Assist with starting up of locomotive as prescribed assist with locomotive brake tests  Couple locomotive  Sign on duty  Despatch locomotive 
    • Prepare locomotives  Determine which locomotive to be prepared  Obtain and place equipment on locomotive  Check and supplement prescribed equipment  Clean working area  Assist with starting up of locomotive as prescribed  Assist with locomotive brake tests 
    • Prepare communication equipment  Obtain radio’s/handsets/walkie talkie/telemeters when applicable  Check functionality of communication equipment
    • Performs the pre-trip preparation of the Locomotives and the whole Train prior the departure to adhere to roadworthiness and train working rules and safety standards  Attach/detach vehicles according to works order in absence of yard personnel i. Mount telemeters where necessary ii. Complete vehicle list and vacuum form iii. Mount train indicators iv. Examine train v. Do brake test in conjunction with train driver 
    • Execute shunting activities in sidings and enroute according to directives to enhance safe working procedures.  Obtain works order  Performa shunting/placing/removing of trucks as per works order  Update vehicle list  Place and clear load/empty trucks at siding
    • Assist the train driver enroute to ensure the safe movement of the train from a required point to the destination, without delays or damage to locomotives, wagons, infrastructure track and other equipment, to ensure predictable service.  Verbally compare signal positions and display with train driver  Observe proceeding trains patrol locomotives  Reset locomotive trip-outs  Observe safe running of train  Protect train during incidents  Assist train driver during emergency circumstances 
    • Comply to safety standards and laid down instruction to ensure that he is well motivated and competent.
    • Provide accurate feedback timeously to the Train Driver regarding any incidents and deviations along the route 
    • Assist in performing various administration duties 
    • Complete the Train journal and submit to the Section manager at sign-off after every shift to ensure timeous and accurate processing of monthly salary.

    Qualifications and Experience
    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

    • Grade 12 with pure Mathematics and/or Physical Science. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 
    • Be prepared to undergo periodic medical surveillance and safety behavioral risk assessments during the selection process and every 12 months. 
    • Physical hearing, vision, mental, fitness (to be verified through medical tests and related safety behavioural risk assessments). 
    • The operator shall not allow employees younger than 21 years of age to undertake train driver or train control duties. (SANS 3000, par 6.2.6.8).

    The following minimum Trainee pre-requisite: 

    • The candidate should be a minimum of 1.6m tall. 
    • Psychomotor ability (to be assessed through Vienna Testing System (VTS) standard). 
    • Ability to carry heavy objects.

    FUNCTIONAL TRAINING: 

    • Be prepared to successfully undergo Train Assistant duties (theoretical and practical) so as to be certified to work independently as a Train Assistant. 
    • Be willing, prepared and capable to obtain a Train Assistant duties certificate (theoretical and practical) successfully and be certified to work independently as Train Assistant. 

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    Accountant

    Position Purpose

    • To ensure that the accounting records are processed and reported as laid down by the accounting principles, statutory bodies, and Transnet policies.

    Position Outputs

    • Month end and General ledger Recon Processing (park/post) of accurate and proper accounting journals in the SAP general ledger according to IFRS. Prepare and processing of month end Accruals Journals. Monthly reconciliation of general ledger recons and reports that are under responsibility of financial accounting function. Prepare and processing of correction Journals approved by financial manager. Prepare the journal entries for adjustments due to misallocations. Assist with Internal and External Audit request. Identify, implement, and establish GL accounting initiatives to optimize financial performance. Monitor/split operating expenses per profit and cost centers Ensure proper accounting of VAT
    • Cash Flow forecast: Prepare monthly rolling cash flow forecast. Monitor and analyze weekly cash flow to ensure accurate forecasting. Fixed Assets: Coordinate and preparing regional fixed assets report and financial managers and regional management review. Maintain Regional asset count reports and ensure that all assets are tagged and are properly accounted for Casting the income received in advice recon for allocation and review. Compile CWIP account for the region for review, coordinate and submit all completion certificate to corporate office for capitalization. CWIP liability- prepare CWIP accruals Maintain tax asset register for the region.
    • Intercompany Transfer: Receiving incoming Intercompany creditors review and send to cost center managers for approval. Compile a list for approval and confirmation. Processing (park/post) Intercompany journals

    • Relevant tertiary Qualification (NQF/6) Advanced Diploma in Accounting Transnet Supervisory Development Programme (Advantageous) Min 5 years’ applicable experience Supervisory experience (Advantageous).

    Cyber Security Specailist (Infra):Re-advert

    Position Purpose

    • Providing security support through monitoring, analysis, detection and mitigation of threats against the Transnet Engineering environment.
    • Identifies and remediate the vulnerabilities that may cause inappropriate or accidental access, destruction, or disclosure of information and establishes security controls to eliminate or minimise exposure.
    • Information security analysts plan and carry out security measures to protect the organization's computer networks, systems and Operating Technologies.
    • The responsibility of the information security specialist is continually expanding as the number of cyberattacks increases.

    Position Outputs

    • Monitor the organization's networks and OT Network for security breaches and investigate and remediate any violations when one occurs. Analyse the installation use software and data encryption programs, to protect sensitive information. Support the TE ICT infrastructure department and provide support and advice to the provincial ICT centres
    • Conduct penetration testing, which is when analysts simulate attacks to look for vulnerabilities in their systems before they can be exploited.  In-depth technical knowledge of Microsoft Azure and other cloud platforms administration  Research the latest information technology (IT) security trends.  Recommend security enhancements to management or senior ICT staff.  Participates in technical disaster recovery plan testing.  Assists in system security implementations, to provide technical problem identification, isolation, and resolution for Network (LAN / Wireless) Physical ICT infrastructure.  Maintain in-depth technical knowledge of Office 365 and Microsoft Azure infrastructure management and Huawei Cloud Stack.  Through a continuous improvement programme, review security in existing technologies and propose improved solutions

    Senior Legal Advisor:Litigation

    Position Purpose

    •  Support the Legal, Risk and Compliance strategy and business plan to ensure that Transnet Property operates and undertakes its functions and powers in a lawful manner by safeguarding the legal interests of Transnet in all its dealings with internal & external parties, with respect to litigation matters whether for or against Transnet.
    •  Provide professional, efficient, and cost-effective legal services to the organisation.

    Position Outputs

    • Provide strategic guidance and direction on all litigation related issues. 
    • Manage litigation matters for or against Transnet to actively ensure that litigation cases are managed timeously, efficiently and cost effectively in the best interests of Transnet. 
    • Ensure proper legal risk management to minimise the risk of litigation against Transnet. 
    • Appear for and represent Transnet in litigation matters.

    • Must have experience in the management of complex litigation matters across multiple disciplines, including but not limited to commercial, labour, administrative law and procurement law.
