    Plant Operator- Somerset West

    Job Description    

    • Purpose of the job: Responsible for making batches of in-specification products

    Material Handling & Storage:

    • Verify Work Orders and ensure correct raw materials are received and stored.
    • Store raw materials and finished goods in designated areas per policy.
    • Maintain safe racking, stacking, and prevent cross contamination.
    • Conduct weekly inspections for storage safety and pallet condition.

    Production Operations:

    • Coordinate with departments (e.g., planning, raw materials) to expedite production.
    • Set up and calibrate machinery as per standards; follow SOPs and Works Instructions.
    • Measure, grade, and feed raw materials into the plant.
    • Monitor production, conduct quality control checks, and inspect finished products.
    • Report non-conformances and maintain production cleanliness and equipment.

    Equipment & Maintenance:

    • Ensure machinery is safe, clean, and well-maintained.
    • Report breakdowns and coordinate repairs.
    • Support preventative maintenance of plant equipment.

    Logistics & Stock:

    • Load/unload products using pallet stackers/forklift complete daily checklists.
    • Ensure proper use and maintenance of lifting equipment.
    • Assist with physical stock counts, stock management, and budgeting.

    Support & Compliance:

    • Provide relief for Production Team Leader as needed.
    • Perform other tasks during downtime and support problem-solving activities.
    • Maintain high housekeeping standards in all areas.
    • Attend production meetings and retrain on SOPs every 2 years.

    Qualifications & Experience    

    • Grade 12 minimum; chemical plant-related 
    • Diploma/certificate is advantageous.
    • At least 1 year of relevant production experience.
    • Valid operator’s license for pallet stacker.
    • Must be in possession of a valid forklift driver’s license
    • Must maintain medical fitness to operate a pallet stacker/drive a forklift..
    • Basic computer literacy.

    Experience in:

    • Measuring, grading and feeding batches or raw materials into machines and hoppers.
    • Machine operation experience (e.g., bag sealers, blenders).
    • Warehouse practices, racking, stacking, and housekeeping.
    • Quality control and compliance with OHSA.

    Plant Operator- Lilianton

    Job Description    

    • Purpose of the job: Responsible for making batches of in-specification products

    Receiving, Storage & Issue of Raw Materials Assoc with Plant:

    • Responsible for making of job cards, checking that correct raw materials are received as per relevant job cards and coordinating other relevant parties, i.e. raw materials, planning, etc., in order to expedite production of product batches.

    Plant Duties:

    • Ensure production vessels and pipes are drained/cleaned prior to manufacturing (avoid cross contamination of product).
    • Ensure that manufacturing instructions (SOP’s) are followed.
    • Follow operating works instructions for operation of plant equipment.
    • Complete appropriate log sheets where/when applicable.
    • Ensure that product samples per sampling instructions are taken.
    • Required to drive a forklift and to maintain medical fitness to drive a forklift.
    • Meet production/packaging quality standards as specified by the Production Plan.
    • Completion of quality control schedules and report quality control problems to the Production Team Leader.
    • Ensure plant is always clean and in a safe condition at all times.
    • Required to work in other work areas other than normal work area as directed by the Team Leader.
    • When production demand drops required to carry out other ad hoc tasks.
    • Assist with stock takes
    • Assist Management with problem solving tasks
    • Report all non-conformance issues
    • Sign all relevant areas on job cards pertaining to incumbent’s level of authority.
    • Required to go for retraining on all relevant plant WI’s and SOP’s every 2 years for areas under the incumbent’s control.
    • Assist with conducting planned job observations on all WI’s and SOP’s in areas of responsibility

    Maintenance:

    • Ensure that machinery/equipment in areas of responsibility is kept in good and safe working conditions.
    • Identify and maintain stocks of critical spares for incumbent’s plant.
    • Ensure maintenance costs on the plants under incumbent’s areas of responsibility are kept to a minimum.
    • Report all equipment breakdowns to the Team Leader after submitting Maintenance Job Card to Maintenance Dept.
    • Initiate ordering of spares via the Team Leader.
    • Supervise maintenance contractors ensuring maintenance jobs are effectively completed.
    • Minimise down time by reporting breakdowns and ensuring repairs are carried out.
    • Coordinate preventative maintenance systems for equipment.
    • Responsible for day-to-day maintenance of the plant/equipment under the incumbent’s control. 

    Qualifications & Experience    

    • Grade 12. Diploma/Certificate in chemical plant operations related courses advantageous.
    • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience.
    • Required to drive a forklift, be medically fit to drive a forklift and be in possession of a valid forklift driver’s license.
    • Required to maintain medical fitness to drive a forklift in order to have the forklift driver’s license renewed.
    • Computer literate with basic computer skills
    • Ability to work alone as well as within a team
    • Must have an understanding of SHEQ Management Systems standards/requirements.

    Team Leader

    Job Description    

    • Plan daily production schedule to meet delivery targets and customer requirements.
    • Ensure appropriate documentation is available for batch start up e.g. work plans, MSDS, log process and SOP’s to execute the plan on time and in full.
    • Ensure that production processes run smoothly by allocating resources, managing labour, and monitoring machinery availability.
    • Lead, train, and motivate production team to achieve production goals and maintain a positive, performance-driven work environment.
    • Responsible for all managerial functions including maintaining discipline and enabling the development of all production employees.
    • Manage and direct activities with a focus on creating a safe working environment through a zero-tolerance approach to unsafe practices and adherence to manufacturing best practices.
    • Driver of daily Goal alignment meetings and engagement with operators.
    • Conduct daily production meetings to communicate targets, quality expectations, and any operational issues.
    • Identify and escalate production challenges, quality deviations, and resource constraints to management.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and optimise processes
    • Handover shift by communicating the details of the past shift from incoming Production Supervisor in all areas of responsibility. Sign off work plans, logs, miscellaneous and records accurately.
    • Assume OHS Act responsibility for the factory – Legal Appointment.
    • Lead and/or team member of incident investigations.
    • Update and draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
    • Administration and Execution of Permit to work to ensure that hazards and precautions are defined.
    • Collaborate with the planning department for Storage management (bulk, WIP, Finished product, HFR, Dog stock). 
    • Assist with stock take and cycle count and stock recons.
    • Responsible for excellent housekeeping and SHEQ standards.

    Qualifications & Experience    

    • Matric 
    • National Diploma in Operations Management or Chemical Engineering 
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in chemical production environment
    • Knowledge of safety, quality and environmental best practices and management systems
    • Computer literacy

    Management & Tax Accountant

    Job Description    

    • Ensure accurate and timely submission of monthly financial reporting for AECI Plant Health.
    • Manage and coordinate Accounts Payable (AP), General Accounting and Tax functions to support financial integrity and compliance

    Required outputs: functional

    • Maintain the division’s trial balance ensuring accuracy, completeness and validity.
    • Perform monthly reviews of balance sheet reconciliations.
    • Coordinate, supervise and review monthly manual journal entries.
    • Oversee all bank accounts and ensure timely reconciliation.
    • Lead and manage the month-end close process.
    • Act as SYSPRO ERP super user for the Plant Health Group in collaboration with the Financial Planning Analyst.
    • Direct and supervise the Accounts Payable team.
    • Direct and supervise the General Accounting team.
    • Manage and coordinate tax-related matters including quarterly tax packs and VAT returns.
    • Supervise the treasury confirmation process including the review and validation of forward cover contracts to ensure accuracy and alignment with the Group Treasury Policy.
    • Review and authorise all payments to be made.
    • Monitor and enforce key controls across Payables, General Accounting and cash processes.

    Qualifications & Experience    

    • Minimum education Grade 12 with tertiary qualification of a B.Com Degree or equivalent.
    • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience as an Accountant or similar role.
    • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to interface successfully at multiple organizational levels.
    • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel/Word/PowerPoint) and Access
    • Sound knowledge of ERP systems and reporting systems as well as month end reporting processes.
    • Prior experience in the management of subordinates is essential.
    • Must have own reliable transport, medically fit to drive and be in possession of a valid driver’s license.
    • Knowledge of SHEQ Management Systems (i.e. ISO, etc.) standards/requirements advantageous.
