    Principal: Processing Engineer

    Job Description:

    • The Principal Process Engineer will serve as the subject matter expert for Process Engineering within De Beers Group, leading technical initiatives and providing expert support across Managed and Non-Managed Joint Venture process plants.
    • This role is pivotal in driving continuous improvement, modernisation, and strategic alignment of processing operations with the Group's long-term objectives.

    The Principal Process Engineer is a technical leader in the field of diamond processing and actively works to improve the discipline within the De Beers Group:

    The Principal Process Engineer Key Tasks Include:

    • Facilitates continuous improvement and modernisation at processing plants aligned to the defined priority areas based on the monitoring and review of operational performance across De Beers Group.
    • Developments/reviews process designs for new growth projects as well as for brownfield projects.
    • Drives technology initiatives at processing plants (as per the agreed functional initiatives to deliver the De Beers Group Strategy).
    • Interacts with the De Beers Technology Group and assists towards implementation at operations.
    • Executes defined initiatives using sound project management principles and practices, which includes technical investigations, techno-economic investigations, improvement studies, etc.
    • Directs work of service providers and consultants for defined work packages.
    • Performs internal project reviews for the Processing discipline for large capital investments.
    • Assists with people development within the Processing discipline.
    • Provides expert technical support for both Managed Operations and Non-Managed Joint Venture process plants:
    • Supports the sites through investigations of highly complex critical / persistent processing issues.
    • Provides expert input for improvement programmes within the process plants.
    • Supports the development of production and services strategies focusing on the 1-5yr window, aligned to the Life of Asset Plans of the operations within Operating Model principles.
    • Review inputs, activities, and cost (Capital and Operational cost) for Processing production and service strategies as defined by operational teams as an input into the business planning cycle.

    Takes an active part in first line governance & assurance activities at the operations, which includes:

    • Development, roll-out, embedment and review of relevant technical standards, frameworks and best practices for the processing plants, while managing compliance issues within the relevant managerial and governance frameworks.
    • Provides input to ensure / enable the processing plants run at optimum efficiencies and within the desired technical standards.
    • Diamond Value Management (DVM) related reviews.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering
    • Valid SA Driver’s Licence
    • Minimum of 10 years experience in mineral processing
    • Extensive technical knowledge of diamond processing operations (Blue Areas)
    • Familiarity with emerging processing technologies and Diamond Value Management

    Treatment Plant Operator 3

    Job Description:

    Key Tasks:

    • To perform defined operator functions in the Sample Treatment Centre of the Indicator Mineral Laboratory and to adhere to all ECOHS procedures.

    Treat Samples

    Produce heavy (indicator) mineral sample concentrates by treating samples per procedure and generating process data by:

    • Following Diamond Control protocols when treating samples
    • Entering data using the sample tracking system (LIMS)
    • Reporting faults/non-conformances and initiating corrective actions or refers problems if required
    • Recording treatment data (treatment records; decontamination records, tromp curves, LIMS data etc.)
    • Performing tracer tests as required and reporting deviations in expected performance
    • Performing plant de-contamination as required

    Display proficiency in the following plant processes:

    • Crushing, wet- and dry-screening
    • Dense Media Separation
    • Electrostatic separation
    • Magnetic separation
    • Heavy liquid separation
    • Aliquoting

    Recognize and report deviations and non-conformances.

    Optimize Equipment Availability

    • Perform pre-start checks according to the relevant checklist
    • Perform routine maintenance according to schedule or as required
    • Adhere to appropriate lock-out procedures
    • Undertake troubleshooting and refer problems if required to Project Metallurgist and/or Maintenance team
    • Undertake equipment shutdown according to procedure

    Governance, Risk, Compliance, Reporting

    • Demonstrate safety leadership
    • Follow set protocols to maintain data and sample integrity and confidentiality, process efficiency
    • Maintain routine ECOHS and risk system compliance reporting,
    • Adhere to and promote awareness of all Company policies and procedures related to ECOHS, quality, diamond protocols, risk management, Code of Conduct and Company Ethics.
    • Perform risk assessments for all planned work and adhoc work
    • Report observations and incidents.
    • Maintain records in support of safety and quality management systems.

    Qualifications:

    • Grade 12 (with mathematics is advantageous)
    • Computer Literacy Microsoft Office Suite
    • Competent operation and valid license for machinery operation (adv) eg, Forklift.

    Experience:

    • Previous working experience in a laboratory environment, similar diamond/heavy mineral recovery process or field exploration activities would be advantageous
    • Some working experience and/ or exposure in sample treatment

    Senior Plant Monitor

    Job Description:

    • The candidate is required to assist the Senior Plant Foreman or Supervisor in monitoring the process flow in the plant to ensure optimum and safe tonnage throughput, carat recovery, equipment and resource utilization. The candidate may be required to assist the Supervisor in collecting and analyzing plant samples.

    KEY RESULT AREAS:

    • Monitoring, Reporting on and Adhering to All Safety, Health and Environmental requirements
    • Ensure adherence and compliance to plant standards and parameters and report deviations
    • Report plant status to relevant Foreman at all times
    • Monitor physical conditions and report deviations proactively
    • Conduct risk assessments and communicate plant conditions to relevant Ore Processing Controllers
    • Ensure accurate record keeping and reporting
    • Operate the CRD to maintain adequate deposition space for uninterrupted plant operations between the shifts.
    • Form part of sectional MBA’s, SHE Management Programmes and participate in Business Improvement Initiatives (i.e. RRP)
    • Takes over or handover shift from off or on-going operator and attends to any abnormalities first then reports to supervisor and receives further instructions
    • Do physical inspection of the plant and informs the Ore Processing Foreman of any deviations and corrective action taken including job cards for engineering related problems
    • Performs physical inspections of plant equipment according to departmental procedure to minimize breakdowns and production losses by reporting abnormalities to the Ore Processing Controller or Senior Plant Foreman
    • Operates and monitor the plant operating parameters and related equipment and assist in equipment maintenance according to production requirements and Standard Operating Procedures
    • Communicate plant conditions and parameters to Ore Processing Controller or Supervisor to enable the monitoring or co-ordination of the production process
    • Cleans areas of responsibility according to procedures upon instruction from the Senior Plant Foreman
    • Help reduce downtime and breakdown of equipment by proactively reporting deviations to standards

    Qualifications:

    • Grade 12 or relevant NQF Level 4 Qualification with Maths and Science
    • Valid EC/Code 10 Drivers License
    • National Certificate in Mineral Processing level 2 (Advantageous)
    • 1 year working experience within the Plant environment
    • Ability to operate a Dozer, FEL and ADT mobile equipment.
    • Must be able to operate a D10 Dozer
    • Polygraph testing will be conducted for Red Area positions
