    Publishing Intern (Paid 12-Month Internship)

    Job Requirements:

    • Tertiary qualification in publishing, languages, translation or journalism with a strong interest in writing and editing.
    • Excellent communication skills in English and Afrikaans, both written & verbal
    • Excellent writing, copy-editing, admin and organisational skills.
    • Proactive with a strong sense of accountability and taking ownership, as well as a can-do attitude and a desire to learn and improve.
    • Able to work accurately under deadline pressure.
    • Adept in problem solving and multitasking.
    • A genuine interest in book publishing and should be an avid reader.
    • A knowledge of MS Office is essential.

    Duties would include:

    • Assist publishers with the project management of books
    • Assist with the day-to-day admin of running the publishing division, including but not limited to formatting manuscripts, taking notes in submissions meetings and assisting with the compiling of the catalogue
    • Assist with the checking of audio and e-books after receiving the relevant training
    • Review new submissions and write reader’s reports on request

    Digital Content Specialist (Cape Town or Johannesburg)

    Key Responsibilities:

    As a Digital Content Specialist, your role will include:

    • Crafting sharp, compelling, online-ready copy that aligns with client messaging and News24’s content tone and guidelines.
    • Tracking the progress of your content pieces or campaigns using tools like Google Analytics and reporting progress back to the team as well as the sales and AdOps teams regularly or when requested post-campaign.
    • Producing and distributing the content produced across our channels – via our websites and social media channels.
    • Collaborating with the design, video, and social media teams.
    • Attend client briefings and collaborate with sales and AdOps to ensure campaign copy aligns with client expectations.
    • Join content brainstorms to develop strategies and create pitch proposals for client briefs.
    • Create and manage custom campaign sites on Shorthand, collaborating with the dev team for WordPress plug-ins; basic HTML, CSS, and Java knowledge is a plus.
    • Collaborate in a dynamic team to enhance the brand and user experience.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • A relevant tertiary qualification in journalism, media, marketing, or a related field.
    • 3-5 years of experience in journalism, particularly in an online environment.
    • Strong editorial skills, including exceptional writing and editing capabilities, and a keen eye for web design.
    • A portfolio showcasing your work is recommended.

    Deputy Multimedia Editor (Johannesburg or Cape Town)

    Main Responsibilities:

    • Manage the video and audio diary to ensure that deadlines are met
    • Rigorous quality control and detailed feedback on edits, ensuring the quality of video and audio outputs are of industry standard
    • Provide editorial guidance to the team in line with the press code
    • Monitor local and international news sources to identify stories for News24
    • Oversee special projects, namely documentaries and narrative podcasts 
    • Plan and organise live events both on audio and video platforms
    • Facilitate collaboration across News24's sections/verticals
    • Manage News24's video and audio studios, including bookings, access and equipment maintenance
    • Facilitate training and/or upskilling opportunities with team members

    Role requirements and qualification:

    • Relevant tertiary qualification in journalism/media studies.
    • 5+ years' experience with audio and video in a newsroom
    • Experience managing teams and/or projects
    • Advanced knowledge and skill with the Adobe Suite, especially Premiere Pro, Audition and Photoshop
    • Be able to work nights and weekends when required
    • Ability to work independently: a leader who doesn't need to be micromanaged
    • Valid driver's licence
