    Outside Operator #2 Digester

    Description

    • We’re on the lookout for an Outside Operator #2 Digester to safely and efficiently operate the Fibreline #2 Digester equipment, ensuring optimal production performance and minimizing downtime.

    As an Outside Operator #2 Digester you will be responsible for:

    • Maintain technical knowledge of the plant and monitor section performance.
    • Inspect Cooking, Screening, Washing, Noodle, and Auxiliary sections, rectifying and reporting deficiencies.
    • Initiate notifications to relevant maintenance departments and perform lockouts using safe work procedures.
    • Supervise and ensure high standards of 5S housekeeping and safety awareness.
    • Stay in constant radio communication with process controllers and ensure quality shift handovers.
    • Conduct regular plant inspections, complete checklists, and write clearance certificates for maintenance.
    • Line up plant for start-up and block it for shutdown following best practices.
    • Relief on licensed plant sections when required and identify, communicate, and mitigate risks.

    What are we looking for?

    • Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Physical Science, or N3 in Pulp and Paper/Engineering Studies.
    • Minimum of 1–3 years’ relevant experience in a production or pulp and paper environment, with sound technical and operational understanding.

    Foreman: Millwright Will Cutter

    • We’re on the lookout for a Foreman: Millwright Will Cutter to ensure plant equipment is operated according to best operating practices, to maximise productivity and is maintained and repaired to acceptable standards to maximise availability and efficiency.

    As a Foreman- Millwright Will Cutter, you will be responsible for:

    • Leads a shift-based team assigned to his/her plant.
    • Carries out instructions of Superintendent.
    • Keeps Superintendent informed of plant requirements on an ongoing basis.
    • Maintains safety, concentrates on the prevention of accidents, and enquires fully into reasons for injury and takes steps to prevent re-occurrence.
    • Gives clear instructions and ensures that all instructions are understood and that all subordinates know what their jobs are and how to do it.
    • Arranges that all the necessary paper to be cut is in position behind cutters and ready for loading according to Production Schedule.
    • Ensures that the broke generated from the machines are timeously removed for continuity in the production processes.
    • Assists operators with the change out or re-setting of knives on sheeter.
    • Diagnosing, fault finds and repairs equipment failures to effectively minimise machine downtime.

    What are we looking for?

    • Matric + Full N3 Mechanical or Electrical Engineering 
    • N3 Pulp & Paper / NQF L4 Paper Board (advantageous)
    • Mechanical or Electrical Trade Tested 
    • Trade Tested Millwright (is preferred)
    • SAP knowledge would be an advantage
    • 3 years’ experience as a Trade Tested  Artisan in a heavy industry environment, with relevant supervisory/ leadership experience including in acting roles.

    Environmental Technician

    • We’re on the lookout for an Environmental Technician to support and contribute to the mills compliance to environmental policies, procedures and objectives, adhering to the requirements of external environmental authorities and legal licences and perform environmental tasks and reporting of environmental performance internally.

    As an Environmental Technician you will be responsible for:

    • Monitor adherence to the Environmental Management System, policies, procedures, and relevant Safety & Environmental requirements.
    • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 accredited systems.
    • Collect, consolidate, and manage environmental data for compliance, performance reports, audits, and licence evaluations.
    • Conduct environmental inspections, informal checks, and coordinate plant surveys (noise, dust, odour, waste handling, etc.).
    • Support internal intramill audits and external environmental inspections, ensuring compliance with regulations and legal requirements.
    • Deliver environmental inductions, training, awareness campaigns, and support emergency preparedness drills.
    • Monitor environmental training records, identify gaps, and support corrective actions, mitigation measures, and project shutdowns.
    • Oversee waste disposal, emissions testing, sampling, and monitor environmental performance daily; report deviations.
    • Investigate external environmental complaints, maintain the complaints register, and provide input for risk assessments.
    • Maintain environmental records, data systems, and graphical reporting to assist management decision-making and compliance monitoring.

    What are we looking for?

    • National Diploma (Environmental/Chemical Engineering) or equivalent, or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant environmental management field.
    • Minimum of 1–3 years’ experience in environmental management and compliance within the manufacturing industry.
    • Sound knowledge of environmental legislation, regulations, and licensing processes.
    • Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office Suite.

    Management Forester - Ndubazi

    Description

    • We’re on the lookout for an experienced Management Forester to plan, execute & achieve the operational estate management, harvesting objectives & targets for fibre production within resource & SHEQ parameters to ensure a sustainable and low cost fibre supply to Sappi mills and external customers.

    As a Management Forester, you will be responsible for:

    • Build, maintain and reinforce a “predict and prevent” safety culture in all integrated operations
    • Inspect operations regularly to identify risks & ensure that timeous action (blanking & pest control, coppice management) is undertaken.
    • Plan & conduct regular field inspections to ensure that crops, through the timing of operations (weed control, pest & disease management), achieve maximum yields within cost constraints.
    • Ensure that plantations use the Fire Risk Management System (FRMS) to identify risks. Record & implement fire control procedures in order to ensure the effective protection of people, plantations and other assets from forest fires.
    • Develop a tactical plan & ensure that the annual plan of operations for both commercial and open areas comply with standards and service level agreements
    • Develop a pre-harvest plan per compartment in collaboration with the Contractor and Silviculture.
    • Conduct a risk assessment per compartment in order to mitigate potential risks.
    • Ensure that the Harvesting budget is managed effectively by ensuring sales target tons/per day is achieved.
    • Compile in conjunction with Roads Engineer, annual tactical road maintenance plan.
    • Scheduling of short-haul and loading operations to ensure rail/road transport is released on time.
    • Ensure that company assets such as buildings, villages and company houses are maintained and managed effectively according to set standards (hygiene & legal compliance) and within budget constraints.
    • Ensure that relations with communities, other internal and external stakeholders are effectively maintained and managed in order to ensure company image is upheld, risks mitigated and relationships enhanced.

    What are we looking for?

    • National Diploma in Forestry or related qualification
    • Minimum of three years relevant experience.
    • Valid driver’s license.
