    Junior Lecturer (Two posts)

    Duties    

    • Teaching a range of undergraduate Applied Mathematics modules offered as part of programmes in the Faculty of Science, as well as service modules in other faculties.
    • Engaging with academic renewal of curriculum, assessment and student support nitiatives in undergraduate Applied Mathematics.
    • Teaching and coordinating undergraduate Applied Mathematics modules with large enrolments.
    • Fulfilling administration duties in the Applied Mathematics Division.

    Job Requirements    

    • MSc in Applied Mathematics or a closely related field, at the time of application.
    • Experience of teaching undergraduate Applied Mathematics modules.
    • Evidence of effectiveness of academic teaching and of excellence in teaching to large classes.
    • Excellent verbal and written skills in English

    Recommendation    

    • An interest in Applied Mathematics education through a record of engagement with the scholarship of undergraduate teaching, learning and assessment in Applied Mathematics.

    Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer: Department of Chemistry and Polymer Science

    Duties    

    • Undertaking and supervising analytical research activities, potentially in collaboration with other research groups in the Department.
    • Teaching analytical chemistry at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
    • Undertaking responsibilities and duties at Departmental and Faculty level as needed.

    Job Requirements        
    Senior Lecturer

    • PhD in analytical chemistry or related field.
    • Proven high level expertise in the use of advanced analytical chemistry techniques.
    • Evidence of a coherent, growing body of published work in the field of analytical chemistry as first or principal (corresponding) author in leading international journals.
    • Record of successful supervision of postgraduate students on at least MSc level.
    • Proven competency in teaching undergraduate analytical chemistry courses (as supported by student feedback and/or a teaching portfolio), including evidence of study material- and  curricula-development.
    • Proven ability to secure research funding to establish a viable research group, or proven leadership and mentoring of a research team.
    • Excellent verbal and written fluency in English.

    Associate Professor

    • PhD in analytical chemistry or related field.
    • Proven high-level expertise in the use of advanced Analytical Chemistry techniques.
    • Evidence of a sustained, high-quality body of published work in the field of Analytical Chemistry as first or principal (corresponding) author in leading international journals.
    • Record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at MSc and PhD levels.
    • Proven experience and competency in teaching and developing undergraduate and postgraduate analytical chemistry curricula (as supported by a teaching portfolio and student feedback).
    • Evidence of research contributions as internal and external examiner of theses and dissertations and/or reviewing of publications for specialist journals.
    • Proven ability to secure research funding to establish a viable research group, and proven leadership and mentoring of a research team.
    • Proof of national standing and international recognition.
    • Excellent verbal and written fluency in English.

    Recommendation        

    • NRF rating.
    • Involvement in / recognition by chemical societies (Senior Lecturer), and /or demonstration of an active role in relevant professional societies (Associate Professor).
    • A network of national and international collaborators (Associate Professor).
    • Evidence of study and research undertaken overseas, and participation in international conferences.
    • Appropriate industrial/academic research experience.
    • Experience in teaching large classes.
    • The ability to teach in Afrikaans.
