    Senior Instructional Designer

    Job description

    The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is a vibrant and cosmopolitan university anchored in Africa and intent on global excellence and stature. With an emphasis on independent thinking, sustainable development and multiple partnerships, UJ is an international university of choice.

    Responsibilities:

    • Design and develop teaching and instructional technology.
    • Finding solutions to queries and teaching initiatives.
    • Implementing the latest teaching and learning technologies into existing curricula.
    • Provide continuous professional development to academic staff and support through group workshops and individual support towards the implementation of e-learning activities.
    • Apply research towards innovative use of technology in effective teaching and learning practices in the Higher Education learning environment.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Master’s Degree
    • Five years’ minimum teaching experience at an Institute of Higher Education including developing learning material
    • Experience in using and developing learning modules on the Blackboard Learning Management System


    Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

    • Understanding of contemporary educational learning theories
    • Self-starter with strong self-management skills
    • Ability to organise and manage multiple priorities
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Exceptional written and verbal language and communication skills
    • Committed to be a pro-active team player and willing to share knowledge and information
    • Experience in the higher education environment
    • Involvement and experience in research, report writing, and research projects
    • Knowledge of learning design principles
    • Understanding of online learning theories and material development

    Recommendations:

    • Experience in curriculum design for blended and online learning material
    • Some experience in research
    • Experience in project management
    • Experience as a team leader
