    Highways & Bridges Lead

    Job description

    Job Summary

    The main responsibility of the person in this position will be to manage the Highways and Bridges Market Sector, including growing the revenue generated in the sector, as well as overseeing the successful delivery of projects within the sector from a profitability and quality perspective.

    Duties And Responsibilities

    • Serve as the Project Director/Manager as necessary, with a responsibility for delivering projects within timescale, budget constraints and quality expectations.
    • Develop staff and assist in training and mentoring with a particular focus on assisting staff to gain professional accreditation.
    • Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for the project team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for health and safety in design.
    • Prepare resource and fee forecasts.
    • Ensure IMS procedures are properly followed for all projects, including Environmental and Health & Safety matters.
    • Interact and collaborate with other business lines on various multi-disciplinary projects or pursuits.
    • Have appropriate, timely and current project plans for live projects and proposals .
    • Set up projects on the AECOM system and allocate budgets to work stages.
    • Assist in preparing project execution plans and conduct financial and technical reviews of projects.
    • Promote the use of the latest AECOM systems and procedures.
    • Assist achieving working capital targets for the business line.
    • Authorise timesheets and expenses.

    Minimum Requirements

    Experience

    • A minimum of 10+ years’ experience in Transportation Engineering focusing on Highways and Bridges
    • Knowledge of the market and potential clients in South Africa and the rest of Africa.
    • Demonstrate ability to manage and develop productive and engaged teams.
    • Lead/manage a variety of projects as project leader dealing directly with clients.
    • Suitable experience working within Africa (outside South Africa) will be advantageous.
    • Exposure to alternative project delivery mechanisms e.g. PPP’s will be advantageous.

    • Ability to work independently or in team environment.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Strong business networking skills within the industry.
    • Committed and motivated individual.
    • Ability to multi-task – work on several projects simultaneously.
    • Ability to plan, leads, support and execute work independently or within a multi-disciplinary project team environment.
    • Passionate about skills development and mentoring of junior staff.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering will be advantageous.
