Skye Education (“Skye”) is seeking a young, ambitious and dynamic individual as Architectural Technologist. Skye’s vision is to help children thrive through developing and operating nursery, primary and high schools that equip children to become lifelong learners.

The ideal candidate should be exceptionally excited about pushing the boundaries of what educational buildings can do. They should be able to apply exceptional technical skills in the resolution of the technical aspects of educational architecture. We intend to set the absolute benchmark of educational quality in South Africa and the successful applicant must be 100% committed to delivering on this vision as a member of the Skye team.

Skye will develop 10 – 15 schools over the next five to seven years. Zoning on its first two Johannesburg campuses is imminent and we are excited to tackle the design and construction phase of these two sites.

Objective:

Produce architectural drawings to successfully document the design of custom-built school campuses.

Accountable to:

Head of Design & Construction

Key result areas:

• Apply exceptional technical skills in the inventive resolution and timely production of architectural drawings. Our campuses are energy efficient, comfortable, integrated with nature and are designed for rapid construction using innovative and alternative building technologies where appropriate.
• Successfully work as part of a dedicated team to deliver high quality working drawings.
• Accurately measure and document existing buildings.
• Produce architectural drawing for submission to local authorities (including: plans, sections, elevations, drainage, schedules, details and assemblies).
• Draft construction drawings and details to realise innovative yet cost-effective architectural solutions, incorporating information from the professional team.
• Research, plan and apply knowledge of construction, zoning, building codes and SANS 10400.
• Engage with Local Authorities to foster good relations.
• Inventive detail resolution for custom-designed and fabricated furniture and fittings.
• Engage with Architects and design team to consistently and accurately document design of campuses.
• Continuous development of Skye Education’s internal design philosophy and standards.

Remuneration:

R180,000 – R222,000 p.a. cost to company

12-month contract with likelihood of further renewal

Location:

Centurion based offices, campus developments in Johannesburg.

Qualifications & Experience:

• NDip / BTech Architecture or BAS
• 3 years’ experience in construction (education or commercial beneficial)
• Autodesk Revit proficiency
