Job summary

The purpose of this role is to ensure that all JSE registered members adhere to the JSE rules and regulations surrounding capital adequacy to ensure mitigation of risk and protection of the JSE's reputation. Provide strategic thinking and contributions to crafting of departmental business plan based on professional knowledge and experience, to ensure delivery of focus areas for the year in support of departmental strategy. 

Qualification and Experience Required:

• Relevant financial diploma/B Comm accounting degree 
• 3 - 5 years’ work experience in relevant financial environment

Responsibilities:

• Apply cost effectiveness principles in planning and delivery to contribute to achievement of divisional financial targets 
• Provide input into the formalization for the divisional budget 
• Provide specialist market regulatory input into system testing and interpretation of rule changes on an application, in order to monitor market risk 
• Assist in the automation of manual processes or extend the application of the existing suite of IT tools in order to achieve efficiencies in the regulatory processes 
• Ensure systems, products or projects delivered contributes to improve client/JSE service by providing input on budgets, resources required and process based on the understanding of costs, business objectives and relationship with external suppliers and stakeholders 
• Build strategic JSE / Industry/ Global network of thought leaders and relationships utilizing social media, attending and presenting at conferences and training interventions 
• Maintain a professional approach towards regulatory interactions with the member firms in order to promote the JSE reputation as a trusted and respected regulator 
• Measure client satisfaction through 360 degree feedback which will include any positive or negative feedback received from the members regarding the professionalism and timeous nature of interaction 
• Manage own delivery against performance management review and set timelines, identify obstacles to delivery and take appropriate action where required 
• Provide on-going feedback on an ad-hoc basis to manager relating JSE member capital adequacy concerns 
• Enforce compliance to the JSE rules and standards through daily review of the summary worksheet to confirm that there are no client capital shortfalls for all the derivative members and take appropriate action where necessary 
• Inspect members Audit Reports and Annual Financial Statements for the purpose of identifying going concern issues and the quantification of potential losses on their current surplus capital 
• Review and reconcile derivatives members’ monthly capital adequacy return to the members’ unaudited financial records and report validated risks 
• Monitor risks by reviewing capital adequacy requirements of equities and derivatives members with regards to the JSE rules and regulations by using the applicable applications, i.e. LSV (laser surface velocimeter) scan / trial balance and derivatives capital adequacy return 
• Review and reconcile the fixed expenditure base requirements as per the member’s annual financial statements and their computation, prior to updating the LSV scan 
• Monitor members' compliance to submit Audit Reports and Annual Financial Statements to ensure that all material differences reported have been included in the financial records of the member; reconcile to assist the member solvency and to see whether it is a going concern 
• Report any non/late-compliance submission of members’ Audit Reports and Annual Financial Statements to the Financial Services Board (FSB) in order to prompt enforcement steps to comply to the JSE rules and standards 
• Monitor members compliance to submit their Schedule of Fixed Expenditure Base Requirement computation to ensure the member has efficient operation cost in the event of termination and update annually 
• Monitor members' compliance to submit Audit Reports and Annual Financial Statements in order report to the Financial Services Board (SFB) of any none or late submissions 
• Monitor member’s compliance to submit their Monthly Capital Adequacy Returns, through utilizing the web-based application in order to ensure compliance to the JSE rules and regulations regarding member submission deadlines 
• Review processes and procedures on a continuous basis in order to remain up to date with compliance regulations to ensure JSE compliance 
• Improve personal capability and professional growth relating to field of expertise, in line with JSE objectives by discussing development needs and proposed solutions with management 
• Keep abreast of changes in legislation or standards by conducting research and utilizing networks 
• Up skill team and other professionals by sharing knowledge and research results 
• Epitomize living the JSE values, displaying professional conduct and adherence to required technical standards 
• Analyze, research, develop and implement improvement/innovative ideas and value adding solutions contributing to divisional and JSE results.
