Requirements

We are looking for a SQL Database Administrator to commission and ensure the efficient running/operation of the database management systems within Capitec Bank.

Purpose of the Role:

Implement, maintain and support database management systems:

• Install, configure and maintain
• Perform administration tasks
• Perform monitoring and report on health
• Adhere to defined procedures
• Perform helpdesk function
• Investigate, diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve incidents in collaboration with IT owner
• Perform 1st level support (business and afterhours)

Implementation of tasks and projects:

• Assist in R&D
• Perform approved implementation tasks
• Perform BCP tasks

Requirements:

• National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or National Certificate (Vocational) - non negotiable
• Minimum 2+ years' experience in database administration and design
• 2+ years' experience in performance monitoring/analysis and capacity planning
• 1+ years' experience in Operating System Administration
• A relevant 3 year degree / diploma in IT would be ideal
• Microsoft Database Certification or Oracle MySQL would be ideal
• Microsoft Operating System Certification would be ideal

Knowledge & Skills:

• Detailed knowledge of SQL Server and/or MySQL design and administration
• Detailed knowledge of SQL Server and/or MySQL performance and capacity analysis
• Detailed knowledge of T-SQL and/or SQL/PSM programming and optimization

As a pre-requisite to this position the incumbent will be required to:

• Have own vehicle and a valid driver’s license
• Be contactable on own cell phone and perform standby duties as per a set schedule. This may entail presence on site for new implementations or maintenance as well as remote availability
• Be able and willing to work extended and unplanned working hours as required by the business
