Job description
Job Purpose:
To lead a portfolio of business areas in the coordination and support of the management of risk throughout the organisation, with specific responsibility for business continuity. They act as a first point of contact for any business resilience related matters that are likely to impact their respective business resilience portfolio e.g. PBB Global, Global Markets, Vehicle Asset Finance (VAF), etc. and to ensure that the business area has suitably developed Business Continuity and Crisis management Plans that can deliver appropriate response to business critical events during a crisis incident.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Create emergence response capabilities through which key business areas reduce vulnerability to hazards, physical disruptive
- incidents (i.e. safety, security and facilities related incidents) and cope with disasters:
- Provide guidance in the establishment and enablement of Emergency Response Teams (Local Incident Management Teams).
- Promote and sustain emergency preparedness awareness and culture.
- Monitor internal and external environments for potential disruptive incidents and proactively inform stakeholders of such incidents.
- Provide support to business executives during an invocation.
- Build an aligned BCM strategy for the business area as well as each of the functional areas within the business that have a short, medium and long term component.
- Ensure that the teams are able to execute on the set BCM strategy successfully by testing, monitoring and reporting process on a regular basis.
- Develop strategy for their BCM portfolios and/or give input into strategy that affects Risk Management across the PBB, CIB and or Wealth businesses in respective geographies.
- Clear strategy document that is available to all stakeholders for the functional area.
- Track the successful implementation of strategy through the use of BCM MI Dash Board.
- Translate strategic objectives are clear within the EPM goals of individuals within the team.
- Coordinate and manage emergency response exercises;
- Track and report emergency response capability using the approved dashboard/ scorecard; and Work with business, ensure the proactive remediation of identified emergency response shortcomings.
Prepare the organisation to effectively deal with disruptive and unexpected events that threatens to harm the organization and its stakeholders in a crisis state:
- Provide guidance in the establishment and enablement of Crisis Management Teams (CMTs) at business exco/ strategic leadership level, i.e. the “Gold team”.
- Promote and sustain crisis management awareness and culture;
- Ensure development and embedding of crisis management plans;
- Provide support to business during an invocation of the crisis management plan.
- Monitor internal and external environments for potential disruptive incidents and proactively inform stakeholders of such incidents.
- Provide subject matter input (business continuity management related) on business unit lead initiatives in support of creating a BCM aware culture.
- Capability validation and assurance of key business units/areas.
- Facilitating the awareness and/or training on IOR capabilities, products and services to key stakeholders.
- Coordinate and manage crisis management exercises.
- Track and report crisis management capability using the approved dashboard/ scorecards.
- Working with business, ensure the proactive remediation of identified crisis management shortcomings.
- Ensure prompt escalation of gaps against target capability and the associated risk exposures.
Drive the delivery and management of a fit for purpose business continuity capability at strategic, tactical and operational
levels for the recovery and continuation of critical functions:
- Advise BCM capability in establishment, embedding and maintenance to allocated business areas / units.
- Provide guidance in the establishment and enablement of BCM teams at strategic, tactical and operational levels, i.e. the “Gold, Silver and Bronze teams”
- Provide guidance and support in the execution and embedding of the BCM lifecycle encompassing the formulation and completion of BIAs, BCM Strategies and Business Continuity Plans (BCPs), as well as the testing of BCM arrangements inclusive of implemented strategies, teams and plans.
- Promote and sustain BCM awareness and culture.
- Monitor internal and external environments for potential disruptive incidents and proactively inform stakeholders of such incidents.
- Ensure the implementation and embedding of recovery requirements as provided for in the BIA and BCP.
- Provide support to business during an invocation of the business continuity measures/ BCPs.
- Validate capability and assurance of BCM.
- Coordinate and manage BCM exercises and tests.
- Track and report BCM capability using the approved dashboard/ scorecards.
- Work with business, ensure the proactive remediation of identified BCM shortcomings.
- Ensure prompt escalation of gaps against target capability and the associated risk exposures.
Ensure adequate Governance and Reporting capabilities remain fit for purpose within the Business Resilience.
- Provide insights to ensuring the governance process for BCM is fit for purpose, robust and aligns to Group Documentation Unit requirements
- Standardise BCM reporting and related data sources across Integrated Operational Risk, including the embedded functions.
- Develop oversight management of timeous Business Continuity management Risk reporting to be presented at executive meetings, RCC’s and GORC.
- Produce reporting for business area RCC’s, PBB Govco, CIB OPCO, GORC, SBG Manco, SBSA Manco, as well as other quarterly, monthly and ad hoc reports
- Accurate and timeous reporting of business continuity events, incidents, losses and root cause analyses internally within in the SBG through the Governance process.
- Report on emerging threats and risks timeously to the SBG.
- Standard and accurate risk reporting to the Group and external parties.
- Ensure that the BCM Framework, Policies and Governance Documentation aligns within IOR and is linked to ERM principles.
- Leverage external memberships to ensure that best practice principles are taken into consideration and benchmarking BCM Risk Governance to ensure that fit for purpose approaches are established and maintained.
Perform additional operational and strategic activities in support of the business resilience management team
- Manage and lead staff within their portfolio.
- Ability to assess a task and perform it with minimal supervision and guidance.
- Timely completion and thoroughness of BCM research papers.
- Ability to work proactively on task and prioritise tasks.
- Building of business stakeholder relationships and the promotion of BCM.
- Mentorship and coaching of staff.
- Ensure that staff take ownership, responsibility and accountability of tasks in order to ensure staff meet developmental goals.
- Identify the implementation of continuous improvement opportunities.
Preferred Qualification and Experience:
- Masters Degree, Masters in Business Administration
Other Qualifications:
Member Business Continuity Institute qualifications, Operational Risk Management, Financial Crime Control, Information
- Risk, will be advantageous
- 7 - 10 years experience
- Experience Description: Being able to build, manage and improve risk profile of a portfolio through embedding BCM controls adequately. Drive strategic change initiatives in risk. Have a detailed understanding of business continuity management.
- 5 - 7 years experience
- Experience Description: Business Management, Project Management, Project Budgets and prioritization of projects. Risk governance and the change management across the portfolio. Being able to deal with complex business events and problems at a portfolio level and resolving them to produce adequate results. Vendor engagement, negotiations and management.
- 3 - 4 years experience
- Experience Description: Internal Audit fieldwork and Audit processes including the writing of audit reports, the approval of these with the relevant business units and the improvement of the control environments through internal controls improvements.
