Job description

OUTPUTS:

Operations & maintenance

• Ensure world-class service levels for all Telemetry systems/platforms
• Conduct trial runs of programs, FW and software applications to be sure they will produce the desired information and that the instructions are correct.
• Change control and problem solving processes
• Consult with managerial, engineering, and technical personnel to clarify program intent, identify problems, and suggest changes
• Streamlined processes, operational efficiency and cost effective delivery
• Perform or direct revision, repair, or expansion of existing programs to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements
• Established and maintained recovery processes
• Maintain client-server database

Design

• Consult with and assist operators or system analysts to define and resolve problems in running systems
• Interact and coordinate all design activities with Architecture and Engineering department
• Developing, designing, or creating new applications, ideas, relationships, systems, or products, including artistic contributions

Upgrades

• Ensure effective assessment and implementation of new firmware/software/hardware on various broadcast and Telemetry equipment/systems/platforms
• Knowledge management
• Ensure that Telemetry development and implementation documentation is processed and stored for all available network systems.
• Repair
• Advanced fault finding and repair of all Telemetry platforms/systems

Communication

• Effective communication up & down
• Providing information to managers and colleagues verbally, written and electronically

Projects

Take total ownership for implementation of relevant projects

Admin

• Asset management.
• Generation of documentation for:
• Monthly reports
• Standard Operating Procedures
• Technical Diagrams
• Change Control

Training and development

• Take ownership of own training requirements
• Identifying the educational needs of others, developing formal educational or training programs or classes, and teaching or instructing others

General

International travel including Africa as/when required

COMPETENCIES:

• Functional
• Visual Studio (.NET) experience
• MS SQL development and maintenance experience
• Advanced degree of computer literacy including IT Networking, CCNA will be advantageous.
• SNMP, Modbus and other monitoring protocols understanding and experience
• Web service design experience (SOAP, RESTful)
• ASP.Net and other web design experience will be advantageous
• Engineering design and technology research
• iOS/Android development and experience background will be advantageous
• Project management principals
• Broadcasting knowledge and understanding
• Internet industry understanding
• Pay TV Industry understanding
• Report Writing knowledge and experience

Minimum Requirements

• Applicable B.Eng or BSc qualification
• 5 years Microsoft .NET software development experience
• 5 years HTML+CSS, ASP.Net and Web services development experience
• 5 years MS SQL, MySQL and other database experience
• PLC software development experience
• Visio, Expression Studio and UML design software experience
• Experience in ITIL, TOGAF and other information management tools
• Other competencies (not required, but will be advantageous)
• High level of Multichoice-relevant technology operations knowledge
• Best practices for NMS equipment/systems/networks/platforms
• Experience in NMS related technology such as Adroit, Dataminer, PRTG, Nagios, Wonderware
• Best practices for monitoring and control of broadcast equipment via remote telemetry system
• Cisco network academy qualifications (CCNP)
• Javascript and Java development experience
• C, C++ development experience
• Python development experience
• Linux environment experience
