    2024 Economist Internship Programme

    Recruitment has opened for the 2024 Economist Internship Programme at the Bureau for Economic Research (BER) at Stellenbosch University. The programme is in conjunction with the

    South African Reserve Bank (SARB).

    Objective

    The primary objective of the programme is to provide practical training to appropriately qualified graduates so that they can function as economists in the private and/or public sector. The successful candidate(s) will work alongside BER economists for a year to gain experience in all aspects of business-orientated macroeconomic analysis.

    Employment Opportunity

    The successful candidate(s) will be full-time employed by the SARB or the BER but will spend their first year in training at the BER in Stellenbosch (from January 2024 to December 2024). Candidates will receive a competitive salary during the training year.

    During the application process, candidates are requested to indicate a preference (if any) for full-time employment by the SARB in Pretoria or BER in Stellenbosch. All successful candidates will spend their first year of employment (2024) at the BER. Interviews will take place in July and August.

    Criteria

    Candidates should meet the following criteria:

    • Be a South African citizen
    • Hold an Honours or Masters degree in Economics (by January 2024) with macro-economics as a subject at post-graduate level
    • Be fluent in English
    • Possess excellent communication and writing skills
