    Plant Controller

    Job description

    • Prepare monthly reports of results, monthly forecasts, annual operating plan, and strategic planning.
    • Responsible for internal controls at the plant for operations, sales and finance.
    • Analyse and accurately report current month’s financial results to the plant, sales, and corporate management in accordance with corporate format and time requirements.
    • Submit all financial transactions, transmissions, and reporting on a timely and accurate basis.
    • Ensure accuracy of the physical inventory and reported results. Investigate and explain book to physical adjustments.
    • Perform audits of bills of materials to ensure product costs are accurate and accounted for properly. Report audit results monthly.
    • Ensure timely and accurate input of bill of material and price code changes.
    • Ensure bill of material and costing accurately reflect production operations.
    • Maintain a perpetual inventory for finished goods and reconcile this perpetual to production, shipping, and returns on a daily basis.
    • Attend daily plant production meetings.
    • Perform daily walkthroughs of the plant with the General Manager to discuss production and costing issues. Review labour reporting and cost, material costs, manufacturing overhead, distribution cost, returns and inventory levels.
    • Conduct formal meetings with manufacturing, finance and sales management personnel to discuss all plant issues. Develop and publish a formal agenda and recap with actions to be taken.
    • Document and understand ERP/MRP systems, hardware, and reporting conventions and serve as the on-site IT expert.
    • Analyse potential excess and obsolete inventory items monthly.
    • Reconcile all inter-company accounts monthly.
    • Analyse internal controls to ensure assets are adequately safeguarded and results are accurately reported.
    • Assure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Policies. Resolve questions of GAAP and internal controls with corporate financial management.
    • Assist in the completion of special projects.
    • Effective communication of business to senior management and Business Unit leve

       

    MAIN DESCRIPTION

    Oversee the internal financial reporting throughout the company to ensure timely and accurate results:

    • Financial reporting (weekly, monthly, quarterly reports, Budget, Business Plan, Forecast) meets internal time deadlines
    • Financial reporting is relevant to internal users’ needs including plant/senior management
    • Process is streamlined with a minimum of rework and revision
    • Implement a continuous improvement culture so that quality of process is continually improving at a lower overall cost
    • Financial reports and information supports the needs of other finance functional areas such as tax, treasury, and risk management
    • Oversee all treasury functions
    • Compliance with reporting and internal control requirement of Sarbanes-Oxley
    • Provide all external financial reporting on an accurate and timely basis
    • Local financial reporting deadlines are met
    • Local financial reporting is relevant to external users’ needs
    • Tax assessments are provided timely and accurate
    • Annual audit is managed at a minimum of cost
    • Provide leadership to financial staff
    • Supports and promote the top grading process within the company
    • Develop the finance team of the plant
    • Effective communication of business issues to senior management level
    • Effective communication of changing requirements throughout the organization/beyond finance when appropriate) so that compliance is ensure, operating management is informed, and impact on operations is determined
    • Sharing of audit findings (internal and external) with all locations in order to avoid repeat non-compliance or control weaknesses
    • Ensure continuing improvements in operations through benchmarking and operational analysis

    Desired skills and experience:

    • CA (SA) or CIMA 

       

       

    • 5 Years as plant controller or cost manager in a manufacturing environment, managing a staff with an emphasis on cost accounting, reporting and variance analysis

    • Bachelor’’s degree in Business Administration/Finance/Accounting/Economics 

       

    • Strong Leader

       

    • Business Acumen

    • Strong knowledge of local and good knowledge of IFRS
    • Strong knowledge of accounting and financial systems

    • Preferably experienced in SAP and Hyperion

    • Manufacturing environment (automotive preferred but not essential)
