Responsible for providing software development activities in a dynamic and motivated team

We are looking for a full-time software developer in our Silvermine office located in Tokai, to work with clients, account and technical managers to analyse, design and implement mobile and web GIS applications. You will be part of a small GeoSolutions team in South Africa and develop software to support the needs of the GeoSolutions business going forward. You will have regular interaction with members of the global AAM Geosolutions team based in Australia. We need someone who is a team player, a problem solver, motivated by software development willing to be challenged and think creatively.

What you will do:

• Analyse, design, develop and extend web GIS 2D and 3D applications.
• Develop new applications and extend existing ones, work with and integrate with third party applications for specific client needs.
• Application testing and quality assurance
• Performance tuning, improvement, usability testing, automation
• Develop a detailed understanding of the AAM product stack from a functional and technical perspective.
• Promote AAM’s services to our clients when appropriate and seek additional consulting work which will assist clients with a problem, inefficiency or an improvement to their business process.
• Contribute to the department’s goal of creating a positive working environment based on mutual respect and professionalism.

What you will have:

• Proven experience in a software development role and clear understanding of the software development lifecycle
• Experience with front end technologies including; HTML5, CSS3, TypeScript, JavaScript, jQuery.
• Sound knowledge of modern web application patterns and JavaScript frameworks like AngularJS, ReactJS, Backbone, Dojo, JQuery.
• Some web server programming with ASP/ASP.NET/MVC
• Experience with SQL would be well regarded
• Proven ability and willingness to learn
• Substantial experience with Microsoft IIS.
• Exposure to the following Esri technologies: ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Desktop or ArcGIS Online would be beneficial
• Exposure to cloud technologies with a preference of Amazon Web Services (AWS)
• Exposure to/exposure with GeoServer, PostgreSQL, PostGIS would be beneficial
• Ability to write install/technical documentation
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Great organisation, priorisation and multitasking skills
