    Project Manager

    Job description

    Job Introduction

    ALE is the abbreviation for “Abnormal Load Engineering”. Our transport Coordinators are at the heart of our business, and are critical to our continued success.

    Project management is the process and activity of planning, organizing, motivating, and controlling resources, procedures and protocols to achieve specific goals (time, cost, quality)

    As the project manager, your job is to plan, budget, oversee and document all aspects of the specific project you are working on. Project managers work closely with upper management to make sure that the scope and direction of each project is on schedule, as well as other departments for support.

    The Site Based Project Manager within ALE SA is a high level site management position that represents the highest authority on a project site, with full authority over all resources and site activities. You will be tasked with daily, weekly and monthly project planning and reporting across multiple projects ranging from haulage of wind farm components to abnormal load installations across various sectors (Nuclear and Renewable Energy, Shipyards, Mining, Oil and Gas). You will lead your project team and deal with any HR issues as and when they arise. Effective communication is key to the position, and will require you to talk and interact with your team and client representatives on a daily basis. You will also be required to make sure that your project teams implement ALE’s HSQE requirements and will spend most of your time on site, with travel being determined by the projects requirements.

    Role Responsibility

    CORE

    • Planning and control of all project related activities following contract award through to completion and close out.
    • Ensuring projects are successfully delivered in terms of managing contract adherence, permitting requirements, programmes, documentation, budgets and HSQE requirements.
    • Managing internal Project Kick off Meetings to communicate and co-ordinate key project information to the engineering and operational departments.
    • Delivering profitability through effective time, cost and quality management.
    • Adhering to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes as well as ensuring they are communicated and implemented within your teams.
    • Planning, coordinating and implementing project management activities on a project in order to meet the contract commitments and objectives.
    • Attending client meetings to review matters associated with project delivery. These may include (although not limited to) technical, commercial, programming and HSQE matters.
    • Ensuring that all project programmes are suitably defined and input to the online project global management system and communicated timely to project participant.
    • Ensuring that all project HSQE documentation is completed on-time and within both company and project specifications.
    • Ensuring that all routing surveys and permitting requirements are completed on-time and to project requirements.
    • Ensuring all project activities meet with agreed standards for quality management, health and safety, environmental policies and local laws to which the business finds itself operating under.
    • Co-ordinating with internal departments to ensure our activities are compliant with our agreed scope/contract.
    • Effective communication with all stakeholders.
    • Co-operating with the Sales Manager to identify areas of additional revenue within a project and new sales opportunities.
    • Maintaining and developing current and new client relationships to deliver high levels of customer satisfaction.
    • Demonstrate an ability to review, understand and act within the requirements of project specific commercial contracts.
    • Reporting key project statistics on a regular basis (as agreed for every project). The objective is to highlight key issues and possible risks for the business.
    • Ensuring invoicing is completed in time and according to client requirements, through coordination with Finance department.
    • Focus on quality control and assurance to ensure that the interests of the business is protected and cargo is delivered as it was received.

    HEALTH AND SAFETY

    • Appointment: Section 16(2) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, No 85 of 1993
    • Exceeding HSQE targets.
    • Ensure that the workforce comply with all HSQE Policies and Company Regulations to maintain a high Safety standard at all times.
    • Pro-active in identifying problems and taking preventative action with relevant HOD’s.
    • Overseeing and auditing the HSQE documentation system on site.
    • Communicating standards and procedures.
    • Correcting unsafe behaviour.
    • Feedback to site/line management.
    • On the job training.
    • Incident management and investigation.
    • Manage RAMS training process and ensure compliance.
    • Ensure that the waste management system and environmental requirements are met.

    PERSON SPECIFICATION

    Essential

    QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE

    • Engineering degree (preferred) or similar.
    • Project Management qualification
    • ERP systems experience
    • Microsoft Office includes( MS Word, MS Excel, MS Projects, MS Power Point and MS Outlook);
    • MS Projects or similar

    DESIRABLE

    Business Management and Financial Management basic/principles

    Essential

    EXPERIENCE

    3 to 5 years experience in a similar role preferably in the same industry.

    Logistics and Engineering Experience
