Job Summary

The purpose of the role will be required to provide high quality legal advice, be a proactive client business partner and provide guidance on a wide range of commercial legal matters and issues. The Lawyer will be required to be a subject matter expert in a number of identified areas of law.

The Purpose Of The Role Is

• To be a trusted legal adviser and manage and provide high quality and accurate business focused legal advice to assist in achieving corporate objectives effectively and in compliance with applicable laws, procedures and policies.
• To draft and negotiate legal documentation to meet Visa Europe's commercial requirements.
• To support Visa Europe's strategic projects, managing legal input as required.
• To be a proactive and supportive client business partner inputting into the legal commercial requirements.
• To ensure that Visa Europe operates legally and within acceptable risk parameters.
• To protect Visa Europe's business and reputation.
• To be a subject matter expert, keeping up to date with a number of identified areas of law and proactively logging all updates, ensuring template material is updated where necessary and informing colleagues of the substantive changes.
• To creatively support the development of new business lines and opportunities within legally acceptable parameters.
• To support and manage identified project work to improve efficiencies within the Legal Division.
• To support and supervise junior members of the team.

Key Accountabilities

• Responsible for providing high quality commercial legal advice and support to colleagues at all levels within the business regarding general commercial and contract issues, projects and relevant legislation.
• Responsible for management of day to day legal queries and business deals taking the lead on all relevant legal activities within identified client areas.
• Project work advising on specific projects and assignments to ensure overall legal guidance is given to business within the Visa context, including ensuring others are involved where legal specialism is required.
• Contract management: managing, negotiating, drafting, amending and advising on all contracts. Working with Procurement and other departments to ensure contracts accurately reflect business needs and policies as they develop.
• Manage identified areas of law and be a proactive subject matter expert reviewing externally published materials to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and legislation.
• Instructing, managing and developing relationships with external counsel, where required.
• To ensure the company achieves its corporate scorecard objectives through provision of high quality legal advice to business and managing key objectives of the division scorecard.
• Manage, develop and maintain relationships to facilitate effective delivery of legal advice and assistance.
• To manage and advise on contract process solutions to ensure effective working procedures in accordance with audit and Visa Europe's policies. To develop and train team member's to be efficient and have the tools to carry out their role.
• To provide training to identified business areas on law, processes and policies.
• To support junior members of the team.
• Proactively contribute to the Legal Division's planning, cohesion, consistency in advice and the general efficiency and effectiveness of the department as a whole.

Candidate Summary

• Requires competent understanding of relevant laws including Consumer Law and policies.
• Significant experience at law firm and in-house in required area of expertise.
• Previous experience of working within a technology and digital legal environment
• Ability to work in a team environment as well as on own initiative
• Proven stakeholder management skills
• Knowledge of payment card industry is preferable.
• Previous experience of cross-border and multi-jurisdictional contracts.
• Financial regulation and data protection experience (desirable)

Qualification Summary

• Qualified lawyer with previous experience in a legal environment.
