    Junior Chef

    Job Description

    MannaBay is “South Africa’s Leading Design Hotel”. In the heart of Cape Town, bordering Table Mountain, MannaBay has eight uniquely designed rooms that set the bar for contemporary luxury. The hotel is a three-time World Travel Awards Nominee in the category South Africa’s Leading Boutique Hotel, and TripAdvisor has awarded the property with a 2014 Certificate of Excellence. This prestigious award recognises businesses that consistently earn top ratings from TripAdvisor travellers.

    MannaBay is looking to appoint a new Junior Chef who will help out with daily breakfast and high tea at the hotel. The Junior Chef will work on a kitchen team of four, reporting in to the Executive Chef. The ideal candidate is a recent graduate of a reputable culinary school, with 1-2 years of experience in a hotel or bakery environment.

    At MannaBay, the Junior Chef's responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

    • Preparing daily breakfast and high tea
    • Making beer & biltong
    • Preparing menus in collaboration with colleagues
    • Optimizing the cooking process with attention to speed and quality
    • Maintaining a climate of smooth and friendly cooperation
    • Catering for outside events
    • Harvesting from the hotel herb garden and looking after the worm farm
    • Ensuring that working and storage areas are kept clean and tidy
    • Maintaining impeccable personal hygiene and high work and safety standards
    • Operating in a cost effective manner with minimum wastage
    • Shifts begin at 5:30am, and take place across 5 days of the week, including weekends.

    Requirements

    • 1-2 years of experience working in a catering environment
    • Diploma, degree or certificate from a reputable hospitality/culinary school
    • An outgoing personality that thrives on the guest interaction that comes with working in a hotel
    • You are super passionate about food preparation and bring your own ideas "to the table"
    • You must be of sober habits
    • Please note that candidates must possess a valid driver's license and their own means of transport.
    • Preference will be given to PDI candidates. Please note that we can only consider applications from South African citizens.
