SENIOR SCIENTIST

BIOTECHNOLOGY DIVISION
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
-
Development of processes for the treatment of industrial and mining wastes, including solid waste and effluents
-
Contribution to the body of knowledge to move solid waste away from landfilling towards waste prevention, reuse, recycling or recovery (circular economy).
-
Conduct research independently, but under the supervision of a team leader.
-
As chief investigator, execute projects in which interactions with clients and technical expertise are required at a professional level.
-
Stay up to date on technology developments and assist in identifying opportunities for technology development and commercialisation.
-
Complete projects within specified timeframes.
-
Produce professional reports, papers and presentations at local and international conferences.
-
Must have the skill to write applications for research grants and commercial contract proposals.
-
Must assist with mentoring, training and/or coaching of junior research staff.
-
Ensure that SHEQ procedures are strictly adhered to and that project work is executed with maximum overall technical efficiency.
JOB KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
-
At least 5 years’ relevant research involvement and outputs in a Research & Development environment

Excellent communication and presentation skills
-
Ability to work independently and in teams
-
Leadership skills and experience of managing researchers are essential

Must be computer literate
QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Minimum requirement BSc (Hons) related to (bio)processing of waste, water and minerals
-
MSc/PhD will be advantageous

SALARY PACKAGE: R357 031 CTC per annum
