Overview

The Johannesburg CIB Operations team provides support to the Equities and Currency and Emerging Markets (CEM) Businesses. This position is based in Johannesburg supervising a team of talented individuals supporting the Cash Equities; Programme Trading; Futures; IR derivatives and SLS products.

The successful applicant will be a highly motivated, self-driven individual who is capable of multi-tasking, analytically reviewing data and process to identify improvements, good time management, and communication skills. The position requires significant interaction with the traders; financial control and settlement teams. A strong track record and equities operations experience is essential.

The role is suited to a motivated and innovative self-starter with the necessary skills and experience to drive change as well as to ensure an efficient and controlled operating model. This includes managing the operating model, technology requirements and business processes needed to facilitate the business whilst maintaining a robust control environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervision of the Middle Office team providing effective day to day support to the sales/trading desk on trade bookings; position management and risk reporting
• Ensuring a well controlled and efficient operating model that includes the performance of all relevant control reconciliations including stock/cash positions and FOBO reconciliations
• Liaising with sales/traders; clients; custodian and internal JPM colleagues and teams to ensure timely and accurate processing and settlement of all transactions
• Appropriate escalation and reporting of any pertinent issues
• Capturing of client allocations in BDA
• Capturing of trades in the JPM corporate systems
• Proactive problem identification and query resolution
• Setting up of new clients and maintenance of instrument reference data
• Ensure Corporate Actions are correctly reflected in the corporate systems
• Ensure all trades are correctly captured in the risk systems at the end of the day
• Ownership and resolution of all daily tasks as well as any extraordinary issues that arise
• Development and training of personnel
• Project management
• Meeting all MIS and reporting deadlines
• Implementation of new processes and systems
• Provide business support to other areas of the bank as necessary
• Maintenance of standard operating procedures
• Production and distribution of trade confirmations

Educational/Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent preferred with strong relevant banking experience
• Cash Equities operations experience (preferably to include Institutional activity in SA)
