    Shared Accounting Team Leader

    Job description

    The primary function of this role is to lead the Africa Shared Accounting Team, ensuring its many & varied obligations are met, driving to improve & standardise accounting processes, and building the best team to fulfil these tasks.

    This position is responsible for building organizational capability within the Africa Finance team, will closely operate with the business finance leaders and various Corporate Departments (Tax, Treasury, Accounting, Legal, others), WHQ Global Financial Accounting teams, the International Shared Service Centers (ISSC), and Operating divisions in Country.

    Essential Functions:

    • Preparing statutory accounting, corporate and income tax accounting for the Central cluster
    • Being responsible for all matters associated with internal controls, internal auditing, external audit, statutory reporting and financial advice
    • Ensuring compliance with Corporate Policy and legal requirements; functions as an agent of change to improve systems and procedures.
    • Acting as a proactive business partner to Sectors/Operations, enabling the business teams to focus on business issues.
    • Acting as a proactive business partner and corporate country finance function representative for successful liaison among internal audit, EC/WHQ/EHQ accounting, treasury, tax, legal and operations
    • Actively initiating or contributing to end-to-end process improvements by partnering with other process stakeholders to improve process efficiency, effectiveness and internal control.
    • Acting as a liaison with the International Shared Service Centres (ISSC) and the ledgers in the country as required ensuring Oracle implementation and possible migration of transaction activities to the ISSC.

    Desired Skills and Experience

    Requirements:

    • Professional accounting qualification required; accounting degree preferred
    • Substantial financial management experience
    • Experience in finance/ accounting and auditing within a Big Four and/or multinational (manufacturing) company preferred
    • Experience of South Africa and other African countries (i.e. Nigeria, Kenya) statutory reporting requirements;
    • Knowledge of US GAAP; exposure to Sarbanes Oxley
    • Sound practical knowledge of corporate income tax /indirect taxes;
    • Experience of best practice implementation/end to end process improvement in accounting & reporting
    • Able to work as part of a team, adhere to company standard processes, practices & policies
    • Excellent professional presence
    • Proven people leadership skills; deploying strategic change and building organizational capability
    • Effective communication and manager of people skills essential
    • Demonstrable continued personal development both technical and behavioral
