Primary Job Purpose:

Assuming the roles and responsibilities, according to the MHSC, by providing rock engineering expertise and services to the mining, planning and engineering

Disciplines

The appointee should:

• Be in possession of a post graduate qualification (BSc Mining Engineering, Rock Engineering,GDE, AREC, MSc).
• Be in possession of a Chamber of Mines Rock Mechanic Certificate (for metalliferous mines)
• Be in possession of a Certificate in Strata Control
• Have 9 years’ experience in a mining environment
• Professional registration with SANIRE
• Have MAP3D experience, as well as the ability to use other numerical modeling and seismicity software packages
• Have a valid driver’s license and first aid certificate
• Have operating proficiency of Microsoft Office, including relevant rock engineering computer software programs as well as numerical modeling tools to produce reports and relevant numerical models
• Be medically fit for the position as determined by a risk-based medical examination at a Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre

Advantageous:

• Be in possession of a blasting certificate
• Have mechanized mining experience

Tasks and Key Responsibilities:

• Providing rock engineering services to the mining, planning and engineering disciplines
• Provide input into weekly and monthly planning activities
• Manage and coordinate activities of a team of persons under your control
• Provide input into the design of support, support systems and Mine design
• Periodic numerical modeling of underground workings
• Work within a dynamic team of professionals in the pursuance of the Organization’s goals
• Provide a work ethic that ensures the health and safety of people
