PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Assistant to Nursery Manager to offer managerial support and assistance in producing clonal plants of the correct quality specifications to be delivered at the correct time in accordance with annual plant orders and production targets

MIN EDUCATION REQUIRED: Grade 12

TERTIARY : ESSENTIAL Horticulture Diploma

Specific Experience

Minimum of 2 years experience in Horticulture or Agriculture environment

Functional Outputs

• Develop appropriate weekly and monthly forecasts, checks and balances to ensure achievement of the APO to ensure operational sustainability.
• Plans daily production in order to achieve APO.
• Plans all plant movement within the nursery, i.e. placing, moving, sorting, trimming, dispatch.
• Plans required chemical & fertilizer regimes and plant delivery as per customer’s requirements.
• Plans production targets monthly and assist with monthly stock take to meet set deadlines
• Plans sales forecast - liaise with customers as to requirements and replacement schedule of hedge banks.
• Co-ordinate plant dispatches to customers and ensures plants dispatched meet the plant quality specifications and are delivered in the right time in order to achieve monthly sales orders.
• Captures sales and tray returns on SAP for approval by the Nursery Manager.
• Manages greenhouse misting & irrigation settings as well as record keeping of greenhouse readings.
• Maintains data base of nursery plant production and batch performance.
• Maintain database of all critical nursery processes such as daily EC & pH readings of fertilizer applications.
• Manages the replacement schedule of hedge banks in line with the tactical plan and Mondi procedures, ensuring that the latest approved clones are deployed (liaises with Research Forester & Nursery Manager). This will also ensure sustainability of the hedge banks
• Manages the clonal hedges, coppice production, greenhouses, plant growth and dispatch of plants to achieve the APO.
• Assist with stock control and counting of plants, consumables and tray figures.
• Manages the work schedules of subordinates in terms of production targets to achievement targets in terms of APO and application of Mondi policies and procedures.
• Assist in managing the nursery’s SHE program and ensures legal compliance and with 1st party SHE / FSC audits on a bi-annual basis
• Assist nursery manager with preparation for annual 2n party audits
• Monitor implementation of Mondi’s safety policy for own and contractor employees.

Essential Job Competencies & Attributes

• Experience in irrigation & fertilizer application
• Computer literate (Excel, Word)
• Experience in farm or nursery maintenance
• Valid Code 8 driver’s license
