    Senior Health Actuary

    Job description

    Position Overview

    RGA is currently looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual to join the Global Health team based in South Africa. The objective is to be a technical focal point for global health/medical business and to keep on top of global developments that may impact RGA.

    Summary Of Responsibilities

    • Procedures & Guidelines for Health Insurance
      • Assist develop and maintain Global Health Pricing Bases, Procedures and Guidelines This must reflect the implementation of Global Health, Regional and Corporate standards and practices and thereafter maintain & modify these guidelines in accordance with experience & trends
      • Implementation
      • Assist advise the Regional actuaries as requested on how we should handle the health/medical risks.
    • Pricing Tools / Software
      • Become an expert in the pricing tool/software(s) used for health/medical business.
      • With the assistance of the Chief Actuary – Global Health and Regional Actuaries, ensure each office has the best up to date pricing/modeling/forecasting/analysis software tools reflecting Global/Divisional/Corporate standards.
    • Health Business Monitoring
      • Ensure that any adverse trends either at treaty or portfolio level can be identified and addressed at the earliest opportunity.
    • Treaties
      • Preparing reinsurance treaties that accurately reflect and control the risk accepted by making use of standard treaty templates/wording.
    • Valuation & Financial Reporting
      • Assist and liaise with both departments to ensure that the business can be properly valuated and accounted.
      • Training
      • Develop & carry out internal training for local staff re. pricing and monitoring of health covers.
      • Health Product Development / R&D
      • Assist to investigate any new product developments in health insurance/reinsurance and ensure transfer of product knowledge across markets to facilitate and build global scale
    • Relationship Management
      • Build strong relationships with clients, health actuarial consultants, global health team, local offices, local pricing and health actuaries and regional / divisional / corporate actuaries.
    • Management Information
      • As requested, work with the respective Local and Global Heads of Health to identify the appropriate management information (format, content, distribution list, timeline) to be published to various interested parties

    Requirements

    • Qualified Health actuary
    • Minimum of 7 years PQE in Medical/Health business
    • Excellent English and general communication skills.
    • Excellent skills in MS Office (Excel).
